Had to laugh yesterday whilst listening to the SEN coverage. Cant remember who made the comment, however he was saying that 'Melbourne really needs Juicy Newton in the side again. Hes a tall, hard working forward option'

It's midfield or nothing for him he is no forward. The club are killing 2 footballers playing them in the wrong position Dunn should be forward and Sylvia should be in the midfield.

Maybe we should trade him to the tigers for Tambling. Change of scenery might do them both some good.

I am not sure what Sylvia adds to Sydney on or off the ground.

If he played for them like with us then he wouldn't offer much. Off the ground, who knows?

However IMO there is a different scenario between Sydney and Melbourne. I think he would fit in with Sydney's playing dynamic better than any other team (in principle). He has shown in some games that he can lay decent tackles and exert genuine pressure (close in) when he actually tries and Sydney use more of a compacted style of zoning and football movement* rather than straight out run which I think he could be a valuable player in. I also think Sylvia is reasonably strong and is better suited to the SCG ground size - shorter runs and spotting up closer players as well as the half forward flank being closer to goal where he can run in and slot them.

I'm not saying that Sydney would definitley turn Sylvia into a better player but they outline player roles well IMO and Roos is good at capitalising on player strengths to aid his side and at instilling accountability. For those (arguable)circumstancial reasons I am merely saying that if Sydney gave him a go I would understand it given Sylvia is still only 24 this year and does have some talent to tap into. Obviously we all look at situations differently so I am not trying to convince people here, just a personal view.

Pass mark? Complete the year with at least 16 of the next 19 games looking like he gives a crap. To see him put his body on the line without fear of what will happen. To watch him walk off the field with nothing left in the tank whether he got 1 touch or 50. To realise what an honour it is to play AFL for the oldest club in the competion and to carry some pride in the number he wears. In a nutshell I want him to care about my club as much as I do and then, regardless of the stats, I will be happy to see him play for us. Otherwise I'll take a jar of vegemite for him.

With such a young list we need the 3+ year players to lead by example. Can't complain about McDonald, Green, Bruce, Davey & McLean, Jones ... but Silvia is a pathetic disgrace. Even worse when you consider he's got talent. We live in hope he's suddenly going to become an elite player, but truth is - in the context of the bigger picture - the best decision would be to get rid of him at the first opportunity.

Its a good point. However, its also an achilles heel for Col. He will be exposed on the bigger grounds and opposition coaches know he has a short engine therefore they will make him run hard. When I think of O'Keeffe for Sydney and how hard he works, Col would be stuffed by quarter time!

We live in hope he's suddenly going to become an elite player, but truth is - in the context of the bigger picture - the best decision would be to get rid of him at the first opportunity.

He can play football and can take contested marks which we lack in spades. He will never be the out and out blue chip star that you all want him to be. He has 72 games to his name and granted he has not set the world on fire this year in 2 games however he can kick straight and is a darn better kick than alot of his teammates.

Thats fine. But would he still be in the team if he were a pick 30+? And we cannot be scared of trading him, yes he may excel somewhere else, but who cares? We obviously dont want to win yet, so get what you can for him. Or send him to casey, tell him to have a really good think about what he wants from football.

I won't whack you. I agree, his skills as they were when he came to the club, and as they are now are why he remains such a big topic. But you sum it up yourself. He will never be an out and out blue chip star... So why not entertain the thought of a trade? Rhino hits it on the head. He has little value that would make it worth trading, but if he monstered the comp over the second half of the season, we could ride that wave and get something for him...

I actually like Col, enjoy watching him play, but like you I have to admit he will have limits. It's like with Bruce. He has limits too, but he gets the best out of himself, and would be pretty worthless in a trade at his age. Col is the other way around. Recruiters may believe all he needs is a team around him, a firebrand coach who can get into his ear, and time, which is still on his side.

I'm thinking GC would probably be our best bet at this stage. Freo are probably not going to be the promised land of draft picks anymore.

i Dont think anyone will pick him up in a trade. Its just a delist and cut your losses. Onto the luke molan scrap heap. Mistakes are made. He'll be back playing footy in the country on the beer all weekend and wont be hurting anyone but himself then.

Absolutely, that is the obvious question mark over him. His tank and ethic and that is where the if factor comes into it. Could Sydney improve his endurance? Would they use him in a smarter way as an impact player to not so much be the engine room but a complimentary player to the list? Would he improve his standards playing at another club with better senior players? Agreed it is highly doubtful but if there was a club that places value on one dimensional players and gets value out of them it is Sydney. As far as being found out on the bigger grounds I think Sydney have a way of countering opposition teams in their running and locking the ball up but this is more a theoretical generalisation and Sylvia definitely wouldn't be a 4 quarter player as you suggest. If given the opportunity for a reasonable trade to get him I still think he could be more than a handy depth player for a team that prefers to top up.

Now i no i lprobly cop a spray for this but, this was supposed to be the year he turns it all around and hisonly played 2 games, also i belive we shouldnt drop him yet his definetly not our worst player.

Hes copped it pretty hard as of late if he doesnt respond in the next month, well we should get what we can out of him and look to trade him or something.
