Unfair on Martin, Scarlett would have been murdered playing fullback on our team today.

OVER AND OUT !!!!!.............. bring on 2009

We were very poor today.

But these three word analysis things have degenerated into nothing more than a weekly slagging, with very poor aim.

I'm not going to bother trying to start arguments about particular ones, these threads are just about a write off now.

Newton - No work ethic

did you watch him play, or just copy your assesment from a couple of weeks ago?

he chased hard all day (when he was on the ground), he chased players up the centre of the ground. he ran from player to player in the forward line when port passed it around. he twice had the ball and looked for teammates to centre it to - once it resulted in a goal. when he leads he is ignored. when he is standing one on one the ball is kicked to the wrong side.

he gets terrible service and rarely looked like taking a mark, but kept chasing all day. he got good service once, and he marked and kicked a goal.

Newton was great today. Not normally a fan but I thought he stepped up. Defensive pressure is about 40% of a forwards job these days and Juice was fantastic in that aspect today.

I didnt see him lay more than 2 tackles to be honest. The service isnt great, sure, but he doesnt make much of most it.

he might not have made any tackles, but a 6 foot 6 tall forward is not your tackle man. he chased and put pressure on rather than just standing there like other players have/will/did. i thought he had an average day. but his role is to have the ball kicked to him. when we kick as badly as we do, it gives him a pretty hard job.

i know i am comparing him to players who are well out of his league (and i am not saying he could tie these players boot laces), but i dont think that players like richo (2 years ago), neita, gerhig, roughhead, etc would have done any better today than he did. maybe they would have imposed their bodies on the contest more. but none of those players (who play/ed a similar role imo) would have laid more tackles or chased as much as he did today. and given the service and the game time he recieved, i cant imagine too many of those players would have kicked more goals either.

I like Juice, he would be fantastic in the right team and some of your points are very valid.

You must stop making excuses for his poor performance though. Weather it be because of poor service or whatever, he played poorly. End of.

3 Word analysis for the team today

Dont Come Monday !! :D

Theres a few hours of my life Ill never get back..lol Can only hope they are saving ( whatever is left ) for next week !! <_<

The service to the forward line was at worst non-existent, at best scrappy......

That being said none of the forwards were able to put any kind of print on the game, and Newton really needs a hell of a lot of work.

He was there abouts for parts of the game, but he doesn't seem to work hard enough especially in defence.

And when the ball gets below his feet, or isn't delivered on a dime, well its not particularly pretty.

MFC - Hit the gym

Come on YM, despite a sad level of accuracy to your summation, not everyone wants to see that......

I'm sure somewhere in there you can understand that, at least a little ;) !!!

It's no different to Joeboy's tripe... he just uses different language. Some people can be just a little too touchy sometimes... ;)

That being said, what did we all expect? We SUCK at AAMI no matter what side we send over and this was no exception. I had no expectations for the game and we played exactly as I thought we would. It's just another game for some of our young kids and we have one more game before Bailey gets to cull the list, gain some more quality kids and look to improve in 2009. You guys were kidding yourselves if you expected us to play any better today.

i think those that follow him from thread to thread taking a shot at what he wrote, and trying to draw the mods attention to what he wrote are more annoying that he is.

it is a distinct possibility that tez is no more than yze_magic in disguise. the only thing he/she ever does is have shots at yze_magic, and occasionally others.

Oh I wasn't criticising, I thought it was an accurate summation of what we saw today :P !!!

Just pointing out that not everyone......nevermind it really is completely and totally unimportant.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
