Looks increasingly likely Wheatley will struggle to make the starting 18. Looking shaky for the interchange too perhaps......

That's probably because Wheatley is not a defender or a midfielder, he is what is commonly referred to these days as a link man.

This highlights how using 3 different polls asking for our best 6 defenders, best 6 forwards & best 6 mids to determine who everyone believes should make up the MFC's best 22 is totally flawed.

Create a thread asking for MFC's best TEAM (ie, 22 players) if thats what you want. Listing best players by position is not determinative of the best side to field, you are excluding all sorts of players that do not necessarily fit into your 3 restrictive categories, another example would be taggers.

My team so far reads

B - Whelan Martin Warnock

HB - Rivers Garland Petterd

C - Morton Jones Davey

HF - Bate Miller Sylvia

F - Woneamiiri Watts Maric

R - R.Warnock Green McLean

Bench - Buckley Moloney P.Johnson Dunn

Interesting exercise, Hightower.

No Wheatley, Newton, Bell, CJ, Jamar or Valenti in my team.

Bruce gone in trade week, and I think Junior will retire.

I WOULDN'T SAY "TOTALLY FLAWED" - If you look at the Best 6 Defenders and Best 6 Forwards, so far it is hard to argue against 90-odd voters who live and breath the MFC. Its asking everyone's opinions, and the final %'s will determine a side. Not everyone will have what they wish in the final side. That is why it creates discussion.

We'll see won't we?!

UTILITY.

 Wheatley is not and never has been a utility. He has always played the majority of his football as a back flanker / wingman - his specific role now has a name, link man, a la Mackie, Gram, etc.

Any vote that involves 3 separate votes to determine 1 outcome, and none of the voters are told this is the case from the outset, is flawed.

Nobody will have what they wish is their final side because you have not told anybody they are voting for their final side, all you have done is simply ask people to list their best defenders, best forwards and best mids, that is a totally different concept to a best team and will mean any player that doesnt fit neatly into any of the 3 categories will miss out.

Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed or what?

So Start a thread and ask for their best 22 in their respective positions as best suited. You can then collate all the data you want, then work out all the %'s and then try and settle on a side that represents Demonland members......good luck

By the way Mackie is regarded as a Utility, can play back, midfield or forward, and stoppage roles. Wheatley has played back, run with roles, midfield and is our 9 point supergoal record shooter. I class him as a Utility IMO.

Morton Moloney Buckley

PJ Brock Jones

With Green Bartram Bruce as rotations through backline/midfield depending on match ups

Really cant wait for Moloney to be back next year. Before his injury, I think he showed he was really stepping up as a vital cog in the midfield and also a decent leader onfield aswell. His passion is unquestionable, and his aggression, long kicking, and willingness to take on the opposition are things he does well to set the standard for the youngsters. I also thought his tackling and 1%ers were alot better this year. I remember one match he had nearly 10 tackles and a few sheperds too. I think Baileys been working abit of magic here after a spray or two and some behind the scenes tutoring of sorts.

Bruce is easily in our top 6..the man's all class has had a pretty poor season by his high standards but i think our best 6 midfeilders are Bruce, Green, Mclean, McDonald, Moloney and i like the look of Shane Valenti for the future...Paul Johnson much better than Jamar

Which pretty much much kills the theory that Jamar is a better ruckman than PJ.

The only reason why I would have Jamar in the ruck ahead of PJ is because PJ is much better around the ground playing other roles, whether down back or up forward.

Hopefully we'll get Warnock so niether will have to be our number 1 ruck.

Close call between Green, Moloney, Morton and Bruce, one of which will get named on the interchange.

The cut-off will be 12:00 noon.

Before a new poll to decide on the interchange and emergencies opens....

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
