SOS DD, the interstaters are in town and any less then a 20,000 and we write a cheque.

Last heard we our membership numbers have hit 28,800.

Hopefully most will turn out to watch us against the Lions [stef "Bailey" Martin's debut?]

So bring a mate, dust-off any lapsed MFC supporters, or whatever it takes to get us over the line.

GO DEMONS

Bring a mate absolutely, and more importantly, SIGN THEM UP!!

Second last day of the membership drive, a thousand people bring a friend and sign them up we could hit 30...wishful thinking ok, but nonetheless.

P.s. Does anyone know how we're actually losing SO much money this year?

Could be that we're spending more money on the footy department - someone mentioned this somewhere on here, but I'm not sure whether it's valid. Wouldn't be surprising, though.

Not sure either. Go Demons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Garland and Warnock, give Browny nothing.

[censored] last day to buy memberships...i was planning on signing up my cousins tonight! what time is it too late?

Cut off is Monday night isn't it?

Paying out Steve Harris who was resigned by PG and then sacked. I think that cost us around $350.000, but I'm not sure

Quite a few high paid older players. Neitz,Yze,White,Robbo,Holland. We have comparitively high football dept spending because we are at the end of a cycle of sucess(if that's what you call the last 10 years). Then we find ourselves on the bottom with low attendances, bad game times, sunday and Pay TV and less sponsors money.

Add these together and it's easy to turn a good profit into a bad loss.

On the upside we'll clean out the rest of the deadwood at year's end, tighten a few strings, play in Canberra and with Big Jim at the helm probably get a few extra sponsors and a boost in membership sales. If the AFL help out with a few more prime time games, we should turn a profit for the next few years. Of course we will need to start winning at some point next year to ensure we get some sustained growth. Hopefully we'll be generating some excitement with the continued improvement in our young players and some quality draft picks. Any of Natanui, Rich, Hurley , Watts should do that.

Just hang on because I reckon it's going to be one hell of a ride.

"that cost us around $350,000, but I'm not sure"? Hmmmmmmm. <_<

On the money issue, we also budgeted strangely high when it came to members - at least 30,000, IIRC. On the back of a terrible season last year, it seemed strange to me (and our new CEO).

Definitely June 30 (not today).

Not sure what you mean. But it cost us in the vicinity of this amount. I just wasn't sure of the exact amount.

Hope that clears up any confusion

Even the watered down figures we get at the AGM ough to prove a little enlightening !!

A blustery day forrecast for Sun.. better take a good warm jacket...and fill the flask ( the lil hip one..lol )

catch's there :)

I won't be going :(

I have something on that when I paid my money and said I would go I thought was for next weekend, the weekend we did not play :(

We all cant go all the time.. I for one understand that. its not a sin..lol

I know but I bloody hate it, I hate missing games, I still managed to get to every game this year when I was on crutches with a fractured pelvis and due to a stuff up I can't go, Besides I have not seen J. Brown play in the flesh....ever!

I know, it's about time they came here. Even more reason to come to the G. Either you see Melbourne pull off a stunning upset win, or you see Jonathon Brown go ballistic.

That seems unusual Roost. Why would he have been paid out so much money?

Despite myths being circulated, his contract was not extended for 12 months last November. It was open ended. Harris was appointed in 2004. He was terminated in March 2008.

My emergencies would be Bode, Carroll and Jamar, but Bails may continue with the 3 ruckmen gameplan (PJ spending the whole game up forward) and in that case I'd have Bode, Carroll and Buckley.

I read in the paper (Caroline Wilson I think) that PG did have it extended and we had to pay it out. Check elsewhere maybe?

Already am bringing a mate so no worries.

Really we should get over 20K easily, the Lions have a big Melbourne following and this is a game we could possibly win.

i hope so

can i just clarify, i was supposed to say "i hope not"

i am hitting myself, im going away on sunday morning and i like others here, i cannot even remember ever seeing melbourne play brisbane

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
