That is the unresolved risk with Watson. If that indeed happens then the monkey on his back starts itching.

This is his last Test series to make a name for himself. If he fails in this series his International career will involve coloured clothing and a white ball.

Also scored a 50 in the first innings, and his century was the only one scored in a match where no team managed to reach 300 in any of the four innings. I didn't see a ball of the game, but it sounds good in the context.

    Australian bowling - not so wow.

    Titan - Anderson's swing may worry in Brisbane but not so much in other Tests. More worried about Broad Tremlett who hit the pitch harder.......and Swann.

    You're right, though. These pitches are made for Tremlett, who dominated when he played last time, and Broad. Tough for us all round.

    Timely from Doolan, with Shane Watson injuring his hamstring - no surprise with that one. If we rate Watson as highly as we appear to, he shouldn't be bowling meaningless overs in an ODI in India three weeks before the Ashes starts.

    In other scores, Cowan made just 4, Lyon took three wickets but it wasn't enough to stop Tasmania, Marcus North took WA to a draw by batting out the fourth day for 118* off 314, Marsh made just 4, Cameron White backed up his 83 and 61 with the bat by taking 4 fourth-innings wickets, Ahmed couldn't get a single one, Trott and (surprise surprise) Bell made 100s too.

    White a sneaky chance for a Test spot this summer if he keeps it up. Domestic form right now has him right up there, and if he's taking wickets too, you never know, what with Australia's penchant for 'all-rounders'.

    I find it hard to like any Aussie cricketers at the moment except for perhaps Chris Rogers who has earned it.

    Regardless, Indian cricket hit a new low when Dhawan mocked Watson's limp. India's young crickets are, without exception, a bunch of petulant brats (Dhawan, Kohli, Raina). Puts the wonderful attitudes of Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman to shame.

    No.

    Six batsmen. One keeper. Four bowlers.

    Great innings from him (fastest Australian ODI century I think) but that was a small ground where most batsmen were finding the fence with ease.

    I've always been a fan of his. He's doing everything right. With Watson potentially out, that's two spots in the top six we need to fill. Bailey takes one, but the other one is up for grabs. Doolan's century helps him, as does Faulkner's ODI form. White needs to keep making runs, maybe with a wicket or two here or there, to ensure he stays in selectors' minds. At some point this Ashes questions are going to be asked about most of our top 6, spots may appear.

    Hussey was 30 when he started, so debuting Doolan at 28 is not necessarily a short-term fix.

    Bailey has been an excellent ODI find for us but his first-class record is nowhere near as good. If he plays, I'll be interested to see how he performs in Tests. He might be one of thsoe guys who steps up when they play at a higher level.

    if his back is that bad he wouldn't be making doubles at 5

    not bowling with a bad back is understandable

    What I meant is that, if his back is playing up, the extra rest he'd get by batting at 5 would do him good.

    Opening the batting now (2 not out) in his first Shield game of the year. Apparently has shed 16 kilos in a couple of months. He's 29 now, it's not too late to knuckle down and make something of his undoubted talent. I'd love to see him extract a digit, get fit and get himself picked. Not holding my breath though - and quite happy to have him help Tassie to another Shield if he can't.

    His batting partner is Jordan Silk, who already has two centuries to his name in 6 first class matches. Doolan, Hilfy and Ed Cowan also playing, though you'd think the latter is finished at Test level. Plenty of interest in this game.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
