Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Fair call. Got anyone who you would personally consider for this summer, whom we have not seen in the green & gold ? Yes....but..... They're injured. Harris from SA??? I have not checked others. But Hodge at 35......... Quote
WonnaJurah 5 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 whats everyone think of Alistair Macdermott, showing good form for QLD as with Ben Cutting? Quote
H_T 3,049 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Yes....but..... They're injured. Harris from SA??? I have not checked others. But Hodge at 35......... Just on Hodge, look, I really have the same opinion they should be looking to the future now and I think his international career now is finished. I probably thought the same for Katich too, before his pile of runs - but that coincided with Hayden finishing and Jacques being injured. Based on some of the selection changes of recent times and the experimentation of Watson opening, as well as injuries, I guess some such things maybe possible with the selectors. Quote
H_T 3,049 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Aussies now lead series 3-2 after a 3 run win cliffhanger....: Links:- http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2009/11/...7247732375.html http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/aussies-...f-1225794880183 The little master was in full flight amassing an epic innings of 175 off 141 balls ! 19 fours; 4 sixes. titan_uranus 25,253 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 What an amazing match. 175 to Tendulkar, and India loses. How would you feel? White and McKay leading the charge for Victoria. White's innings was the first typical White innings we've seen in a while. 5 sixes. If we get up and win this series it will highlight the strength and resilience of Australian cricket. Probably 6 or so of our first-choice XI aren't available for selection. Quote
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Any credit to the captaincy and the selectors for cobbling a side together with all those injuries? I expect not. Quote
titan_uranus 25,253 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 (edited) Any credit to the captaincy and the selectors for cobbling a side together with all those injuries? I expect not. I think it evens things out, frankly. Quite a few blunders of late, but the way they've managed to get decent, international-quality players over to India on such short notice, and ensure that the team's stability hasn't fallen apart, deserves credit. Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Some of the stats from the game.... WOW Prime Numbers All five of Australia's batsmen had strike-rates of 100 or more. Cameron White's 57 off 33 balls at 172.72 was the best. Shaun Marsh's 112 is his maiden ODI hundred. His 145-run partnership with Watson is the highest opening stand in the series. Sachin Tendulkar's 175 is the third-highest score in an ODI defeat, behind Charles Coventry's 194*, and Mathew Hayden's 181*. The match aggregate of 697 is the highest in India and the third highest overall, after 872 by South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg, and 726 by New Zealand and India in Christchurch. India's total of 347 is the third-highest score in the second innings of an ODI, after South Africa's 438 for 9 in Johannesburg, and New Zealand's 350 for 9 in Hamilton. It is also the highest second-innings total in a defeat. Also, Shane Watson 93 at better than a run a ball and 3-47....Great effort in a mentally tough game with a depleted side...Great win. While I am not mad on ODI this is one of the few I would watch a replay of. Quote
Jumping Jack Clennett 1,825 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 "Any credit to the captaincy ?" Ricky's 35 and he's finally realised it's an advantage to bat first in cricket matches. He captained this match well. It might be worth opening the bowling with a spinner to Sehwag. Today's match was one of the best ODI's I've ever seen. A great, courageous victory by our boys against very strong opposition in their home territory. Our fielding was sensational. I particularly liked Doug Bollinger's great catch running back after spilling a hot one,and Voges' gulley catch!!! We were a bit unlucky with shots at the stumps just missing for run-outs, and lofted shots always seemed to drop between fieldsmen. This has been a great effort so far. After that second game, we looked thoroughly outclassed. What about the crowd atmosphere!!! Quote

Didnt see Much of Sachin, but must have been pretty special! Quote

Didnt see Much of Sachin, but must have been pretty special! I have to put this on record....never been a ponting as capt. person BUT that game last night was a classic, like winning the '87 World Cup! That game just might get Australian Cricket Back on top.. Well done to the injury riddled (and state Cricketers who got the Green & gold over the line.... What a match. RR your stats are spot on!!!! Quote
rpfc 29,023 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Cricket sucks. Just played in 33 degree heat and it was awful - 60 0vers in the field, and came off feeling we lost even though we won the week before and I got a decent score. That's a 2-Day game for you. Dehydration and awful smelling bag of expensive crap - that's all you get from cricket. Quote
Kiss of Death 772 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Speaking about Cricket, how about those Bushrangers eh? I've been listening to Tasmanians having tearies all night. Poor things. Quote

45HG 1,559 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I'll take it as a positive. If I'd have stayed we'd have lost. Had forgot how good it is to have a relaxing day at the cricket. Quote

titan_uranus 25,253 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Yeah that was some match. I got a score at about the 30 over mark, when Hussey and Hodge had gone, and I didn't think we had a chance. I'd never even heard of Aaron Finch. 7 first choice players unavailable. Victorian cricket is so strong at the moment. Quote
titan_uranus 25,253 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) Johnson and Bollinger! Beauties! 3/23 after 7 overs, Tendulkar's gone. Edit: 4/24! And Dhoni was actually out, but wasn't given due to a lack of an appeal. What a start! Edit 2: Now 5/27!!! This is fantastic! Edited November 8, 2009 by titan_uranus Quote
titan_uranus 25,253 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Well, I'm a bit surprised they made it to 170, but we should still make it OK. The pitch isn't as bad as India's top order made it look. One decent partnership should be enough. Quote
H_T 3,049 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 You cannot help but be impressed by the Australian side winning the one day series against India in India, with a game still to play having been down 1-2 in the series. Didn't bat first either today! Well captained Ricky Ponting. Quote
QueenC 74 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Well captained Ricky Ponting. He didn't win the toss did he? He batted alright but his bowlers did the damage. So I'm more inclined to congratulate Doug Bollinger for the figures he got. Quote

So I'm more inclined to congratulate Doug Bollinger for the figures he got. Captaincy is more than just the toss in both ODI and Tests. Who is the person that controls the bowling changes and the field in ODI? Bollinger should be congratulated ...but then again so should Ponting for excatly the reasons HT gave. The fact that he was prepared to back Johnson (incredibly inconsistent) and Bollinger (young, inexperience) is a credit to Ponting. Quote
