  2. Burton sounds like an absolute [censored].. I hope he walks to the draft and they get nothing.

Hawks getting Lachie Whitfield according to shane crawford (didn't know where to post it) https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/08/24/is-a-giant-midfielder-on-his-way-to-the-hawks/
  4. I'm not sure, if he averages 20 disposals a match id say 400k for 2 years is acceptable from Adelaide (but as there is interest 500k to keep him more like it). E.g. Daniher is only on 750k. But if hes as good as we think, then i'd offer our first round pick (8-14) and above what Adelaide offers (500-700k). But there are other things at play: Gibbs to Adelaide - yes/no McGovern to WestCoast yes/no What he actually wants to do (we have no idea - atm his manager is being smart and saying await finalisation of CBA). Any of these will influence their salary cap and ability to keep him. Happy with whatever outcome occurs.
  5. And hes still available. Manager said: Currently way off signing. Issues surrounding total player payments (as in incremental rises in salary commensurate with those stated in the CBA) Adelaide is not willing to offer that up Contract talks haven't even started as a result. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/06/01/in-demand-crows-contract-talks-have-stalled/

At the time and with what he has done disposal wise this year it is for one of the best inside mids in the game (e.g. this season if you go by disposals - 354 to date and next highest is 327). Compare Mitchell to the price of Prestia and it's a steal haha. I'd happily take him for pick 14 every day of the week knowing how the draft can toss up duds as much as good players. But if an inside mid isn't what you need then obviously that changes what you are willing to pay. On Jones, if they give pick 14 for mitchell im not paying below pick 20 for Jones (it's [censored] if they ask for our first round pick, when they accept 14 for Mitchell).
  7. Door for Lever is closing by the second according to SEN corespondent Tom Rehn: However, another sought-after Adelaide player, Jake Lever, won’t be going anywhere according to Rehn. “Jake Lever is almost over the line,” Rehn said. “He will stay, no question. He loves it in Adelaide and is very settled. “For mine, he is the next captain of the footy club. He is so humble, a very good leader and an intelligent guy. He is just a superb guy on and off the field.” https://www.sen.com.au/news/2017/05/29/west-coast-coming-in-a-big-way-for-crows-youngster/
  8. Noticed may is listed as 193 & 102kg. I'd love a 198cm KD sometime. As for me i want him but only for one pic and no player. if that can't get it done walk away and hope we develop and gel by the end of the year. http://www.goldcoastfc.com.au/player-profile/steven-may

Interestingly the SEN has been discussing live trading and they put forward the 2015 draft with gold coast and melbourne and they suggest that Gold Coast wanted Oliver and traded down from pick 3 to melbourne for pick 5 which they thought that they would still get Oliver later with. Problem was that we grabbed him so early in their thoughts! In the article from Brett Anderson: "The recent case study involving both the Gold Coast and Melbourne in the 2015 AFL Draft is a prime example of why draft day trading would benefit their list management strategies, as the Suns tried to predict the overall position of late riser Clayton Oliver during the trade period. Clayton Oliver’s stocks kept rising. During trade period Gold Coast was a club that traded down from pick three to five with the idea of being able to get him. The problem was though, is that the pick they traded to Melbourne was the one that came up to take Clayton Oliver,”. 10. Just heard that Tanya Hird and Jams hird are not together anymore. Tanya Hird attended a function for ex AFL players WAGS (women who used to date AFL players but no longer do - Sounds like a secret society ;)). Not surprised at all really that (if true) she is leaving him. [redacted] If someone else has mentioned this sorry for re-reporting it. Go Dees!
  11. I have a sinking feeling we will cave and swap a 3rd rounder for their 4th rounder as part of the deal :(. But hopefully 2nd rounder alone is enough.
  12. I personally don't believe it is, in fact i think its one of the least specific tests to AFL at the combine. When do AFL players continuously run without stopping? AFL is considered a High intensity, intermittent team sport (so high intensity tackle/sprint and then ball up/out of bounds where players jog/walk/stand stationary for a small period of time then repeat.. The beep test is a continuous endurance test (its using an orange to assess an apple). I'd much prefer to see his repeated sprint results (did he fatigue over consecutive sprints, or did he maintain his [average] speed throughout indicating that he doesn't fatigue but is slow [if hes slow and fatigues over sprints then he really is stuffed]?). A more specific test would be the YoYo Intermittent recovery test (same up and back, but then there is a recovery walk interspersed between every up and back). The problem is we have years of beep test data to compare too, if we go to another test like the YoYo which is more specific to the intermittent nature of the game then we (coaches/sport scientists/fans would have no data to compare against. No idea what we will do on draft day
  13. Yep makes me think pick 7 instead of 3 for him.. if Bombers pick him with 4/5 then id go Harry M at 7

    Interesting.. Thanks for the post

Which is what Jack Watts was pretty good at when we put him down back a few years ago as that floater third tall (although i'd suggest Francis may be better in the contest). I think its Darcy parish at 3 and then one of the the three leftover talls at 7 (hurry up draft night already)!
  16. Just had a chat to a mate who is a dees supporter and i said have you heard we are keen on Prestia? He flat out said it wont happen.. i was like why a few people on demonland seem to think it will? His response was that he is mates with Prestias manager. So i hope hes wrong and that the manager is doing a good job keeping it quiet. Obviously no fact to this just more circumstantial evidence haha!
  17. Watched the VFL last weekend with Black playing and he looked fairly dangerous off few posessions (kicked a few goals and lots of points i think), but when he gets to AFL he seems to be like our Bail/Matt Jones/Mckenzie this year. But go back a year or two ago and he was on fire.. Also Jack steele to debut for GWS.. Have never seen him play but i want him like a Tyson type deal. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-06-16/depleted-giants-pick-two-for-debut-against-roos
  18. I dont actually think we have a chance at him so its a moot discussion, but i think the Melbourne FC needs a big name signing to help show the footy world we are on the up (finally). Hogan, Vandenburg, Petracca and Brayshaw = Super exciting for me! I just wonder who we are paying to get near to 70% of our salary cap let alone 92% (or whatever it is). I like the development from within theory, but also see the truly A grade mid for only $$$ as something worth chasing (especially if it equals more wins, which should equal Hogan staying). Yarran all the way! Pick 4 & 50 ish for Yarran and their pick 20 & 65ish?
  19. Just interested in how it would be? Is it because of the money we would have to spend on him? I think anyone of that class would be worth it seeing how he is a restricted free agent (hence we dont have to offer draft picks). P.s. Really happy with Watts game yesterday, he was clearly a class above with his disposal (we over used the ball so badly 100 more handballs), yet jacks lace out kicks were a pleasure to watch. Just need to get the Toump to stop handballing so much and the two maligned guys will be so much better than they were thought of a few weeks back!
  20. I actually think it may be only the minimal number of delisting at this stage.. If we then land a bigger name in the trade period, that may force our hand on mids like Riley/Michie/Trengrove.. All have promise but (the but is the issue). Obviously if anyone retires (Jamar/Cross) or leaves (Howe/Garland) then more spots are open and less get delisted. My clear delist at this stage is: McKenzie and Terlich (so we need 2 more i think to meet the minimum changes?). Or it might be a massive cleanout . With Rookies is it still 3 years and then its upgrade or delist?
  21. On his skill level, i actually think it's better than most give him credit for (or its his decision making under pressure is. Sure he might not be able to lace out hit someone with a bullet, but he gathers the ball, pushes off a would be tackler, gets a meters space with another tackler coming at him and just holds the ball long enough to hit up a target (really well weighted and to advantage in front). Numerous times ive seen him do that and its something i hardly see from most of our other midfielders (except jones) when under pressure/about to be tackled (e.g. Dom tyson). Its wonderful to see. I think normally the moto would be to bomb it forward and he just knows what to do and does it.
  22. Was just thinking that & mentioned it while talking to a hawks supporter mate. And how good would it be if we played on and attacked rather than holding up the play (really missing kents speed here i believe). When we actually tried to do it against sydney hogan had 3 shots on goal as a result in the second half.. Lets attack dees . This is how it will go: Salem to ___, handball to salem who kicks to ___, handball to salem who lace out hits Hogan who out muscles Frawley. Repeat * 27 times. Sounds pretty accurate.
  23. Yep this thread is everything I'm still excited about. He was my one reason for going this week. If he wasn't there my motivation would be shot! Loved his second half, felt ted Richards gave him a lesson in the first half (it was almost like we were trying to kick it to ted not hogan.. Always to teds advantage). But hogans marks and goals made me happy (especially that one handed one ! Also it seemed that not once did we kick it out from a point to him even when open.. Seemed a little weird considering that he is the best contested mark in the league at this stage.. My guess is they either don't see him, lack confidence or purposely ignore him as they want him to be the next link in the chain? Bring on the Hawks next week !!
  24. Yep with Newton we currently only have 2 list sports available on our primary list. If we pay someone out (e.g. evans/mckenzie debate) we would have an additional spot to use pick 40. If we then wanted to use pick 53 as well (and upgrade Jetta with a later pick) we would need to pay out 2 contracted players. I believe that is where our list currently stands.
  25. I'm just worried that Both Wright and McCartin play on much smaller and lighter key position defenders in the TAC cup - inflating their true value (no flooding so only 1v1 contests, e.g. 203cm+102kg vs 190cm+80kg = not fair). What happens when they get put against players the same size as themselves? Will they excel or will they turn into a mediocre forward (Lucas Cook). The bonus is that they are both big and heavy already (nothing like Watts). The other issue i see is that dawes 193, hogan 194 and McCartin 194cm are all the same height, do we need a variety? I don't actually know. And Roos would take Heeney first i reckon if he had a choice of midfielders
