  1. Just a refresh: 2012 priority pick reform https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_draft_pick#Priority_round_history Despite the best efforts of the AFL, the priority draft pick became controversial in the late 2000s and early 2010s because of the potential for corruption, as it could be automatically awarded based on the performance of the club over the past two seasons with a defined cut-off point (16.5 premiership points or four wins). In the 2012 pre-season, the AFL, with the unanimous support of the 18 clubs, removed the provision for priority picks automatically based upon finishing results, and with the AFL commission retaining the power to award priority picks on a discretionary basis.[1] To allow for this situation, a formula has been developed that takes into account such factors as: premiership points that a club has received over a period of years (with greater weight to recent seasons), a club's percentage (points for/points against x 100) over a period of years (another indication of on-field competitiveness, with greater weight to recent seasons), any finals appearances that a club has made in recent seasons, any premierships that a club has won in recent seasons, and a club's injury rates in each relevant season. To eliminate the perception of tanking, the formula for priority picks is kept confidential by the AFL Commission. 2012 we won 4 matches (2 against GWS who had just come in) 2013 we won 2 matches (1 against GWS and 1 vs WB by 3 points) 2014 we won 4 matches (expansion teams beat us lol). End result = 10 wins from 66 matches, 3 against GWS which probably doesn't count. But we did have Hogan in the VFL and Clarke was injured at the time (and never came back/injured/traded). I'm bitter that they get the pick, as i want equality. If they then trade it for say Brad Crouch i'll be even more annoyed (give them pick 10/11 instead - which they can give to Adelaide in that case - not hurting the bottom teams who missed the 8). This could be a very quick turnaround for them considering all the injuries they have #GCPremiers2020????
  2. Interesting to read peoples thoughts. I remember as a junior i thought he barracked for the Dees (when i was working at the Eastern Ranges FC and he was there - but a long time ago so may be remembering incorrectly). So maybe if hes coming back that may play a hand. If we get him for dirt cheap why not, but i'm not fussed.
  3. Don't know who or where it was (maybe WB vs GWS match) - the commentators said Bont had had 50+ shots at goal this year for that many goals. At least he's having that many shots, but gee it's a momentum killer (maybe i read it lol).
  4. By the end i could only laugh at the number of handballs when a player was in a little bit of space (congested but had time to think) that went either directly to a brisbane player or to ground where no player was. Brayshaw in particular did it a number of times. So i have to agree that we are playing dumb football or we have dumb footballers who misread ques and instead of looking classy (say a pendelburry) they give the ball up in comical scenes each week.
  5. Carlton are doing surprisingly well considering Hawthorn. Weather also likely influences these results.
  6. The skill part is my worry. I keep seeing crap kicks and his kicking efficiency inside 50 is low (so would fit in well with the rest of our team haha). I really like his run, but i really dislike his kicking.
  7. Also don't forget that Hawthorn wasn't allowed to trade it's first pick on these rules. Yet they went to the AFL to get omera and mitchell in and the AFL ticked it off. So really any club can get around it. I think i sort of want us to get the best talent at the draft who can kick (otherwise would have to recruit only players who can kick from other teams).
  8. Lever is knee soreness rather than the reported foot soreness. Hopefully not more than a week or 2 to settle down.
  9. They wouldn't give him up cheap even if he wanted to leave. Too many clubs would want him (not saying i wouldn't like him though).
  10. So far 3 goals have come from bailey fritsch- he cannot be played as a defender as they are opening him up
  11. Hannan Hibbo and Salem in https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-05-30/hannan-among-three-inclusions-for-darwin
  12. Spoke well on SEN this morning when driving to training for an 8am start. Sounded happy with a bit of country in him. Said it was 'bloody terrific' (or something like that) to being recruited by Melbourne. Let's reserve judgement and hope for the best
  13. Let's bring in whoever we recruit tonight :P. All seriousness i expect JKH to be in from the VFL summary. Plus ANB and Salem back from concussion. The maybe also occuring include: C Wagner out for lewis (if Goodwin thinks we need him) or Hibbo if 2 weeks is enough time for his shoulder. Tmac (cork) or smith (concussion lingering) out if they pull up bad post game to give them a rest and bring in pruess/weid (i'd like to see pruess personally as weid won't get good service (which he needs) and preuss can at least wrestle.
  14. In: Jordan Lewis, Charlie Spargo, Braydon Preuss, Sam Weideman, Corey Wagner Out: Alex Neal-Bullen (Injured)
  15. But frost isn't that positionally smart, nor is he good at reading the play. Maybe it could actually be Petty doing this role? he's not strong enough to play on Darling or Kennedy, but he is a good reader of the ball and intercept mark i believe. Anyway will be interesting to see how we go.
  16. I’m not watching - just listening but they (commentators) said we are playing a zone? Explains a lot of so
  17. Can understand maybe needing one defender, but two? Oh well, maybe they want Mcdonald and Jetta's replacement (was it lockhart last week) in the forward line instead. My wife has tipped us (Richmond supporter). Good luck team.
  18. I agree with the last 3 posters, but i also think that Weid isn't reading the poor kicks well enough. And when the kick is poor (most of the time), we want to see an effort to at least make it a contest with the man who was pretty much hugging him to taking an uncontested mark as he read the poor kick better. I think that's the problem (Vlaustin - however it's spelt, reads the ball so well). Weid needs to improve and make it a 50/50 contest like a lot of the team.
  19. How about we bring in a different type of footballer than a slow hard at it player (I.e. Maynard). We are still too same paced so with viney out we can look to play someone who has either speed or repeated effort defensive running capabilities. Further, we could even take one of the million midfielders playing in every position bar the midfield and put them in the middle where they should be (eg Jones). If we bring in a Maynard I just think the coaches are missing at least one fundamental problem with our team.
  20. Think it's too late now. If we had of gone for him instead of a may then sure. But with May and Lever to come in can't see us going for him. Woul've been keen last year though (similar for darcy moore).
  21. I think Josh needs to clean up his 1v1 work and tackling. Heeney out bodied him to come in and mark in the forward line over the melbourne player who was lose - if he keeps heeney out we have an uncontested mark. The high tackle and free-kick goal in the first quarter (i think) - he knew he tackled him poorly and hopefully goes lower next time. As both were in the backline they stick out & i hate those sort of errors. I haven't seen enough of corey to make an opinion of him as yet.
  22. CLearly we need to play on at all costs, when we dont stop we play exciting footy..
  23. But it goes back to wagner not being able to outboddy heeney - wagner has done SFA so far
  24. Glad flranklin missed but they were sooo clean.. amazing how clean they were - its the difference.
  25. Disapointing start with 3 late goals from sloppy possession by us and clean by them. I bet the oppo have that sticky stuff on their hands whereas we don't. Hopefully sopmehting changes after quarter time.
