The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
He will only be a once in a generation if his kicking improves other wise it's Travis Cloke all over again. We can put out big offers, if Hogan stays we just take the offer off the table, players are allowed to change their minds on a whim as are clubs. Would rather start lining someone up and not need them then to get caught out. Obviously the club doesn't want to make a habit of this. -

2 draft picks under 8 would get us Peter Wright. GCS can start their rebuild again, this time maybe go after more competitive types. -
You mean reactions like "I'm happy to back the footy department" or "he comes from a great family" ??
-
Keep them coming, I enjoy reading about potential draftees coming through the junior competitions.

Brisbane gets priority pick

I agree, we need to move on from what we did or didn't get. The concern being if this becomes a regular cycle which it currently looks to be. 1 team in QLD. -

If Hogan walks into the club tomorrow and says I'll sign for 5 years, what's he worth? -

Think Collingwood 4 years ago. Think Travis Cloke 4 years ago. Cloke was or about to turn 25 when he received his payday. Collingwood tried to lure Johnathon Brown down but failed, then When Clokes contract was up for renewal his dad played hardball a secured a five year deal worth (speculative from media) around 800k a year, today's equivalent of 1-1.2 million. Cloke had the bodywork and was arguably the greatest contested mark getting around, but there was a question mark on his kicking for goal. This year was his fourth year of that contract, dropped 3 times? Missed a goal from 5 metres out directly in front playing in the VFL, now the club which payed overs for him can't get him out the door quick enough. Yes they're different players but there are similarities, start missing easy shots, confidence drops then can start to affect other areas of your game. When a club is preparing to offer a player a 5-6 year deal potentially worth upwards of a million dollars a season you'd like to think that player is the complete package. Having said that Buddy struggles to take a contested mark and Danger (yes I'm aware he's not on a million) is no stranger to the occasional shank. 50 goals a season is what we've come to expect from a Luke Bruest, Mark Lecra, Jack Gunston or a Stevie J, medium forward type of player. If we are paying upwards of a million per season id be wanting 70 goals as a minimum for the home and away season. If Hogan can fix his issues when kicking for goal he could become one of the games greats. Not sure what Brad Green's role is at Hawthorn but he was one of the best kicks of the footy when having a shot on goal in recent memory. Let's get him or someone else (no idea who that would be) to work with Hogan, because regardless of where he plays in 2018 his kicking needs to addressed. Remove all offers from the table, if his kicking doesn't improve he's back to being a 600k player, and he won't like that, so he will go anyway to where he can get his payday. Start talking to Peter Wright now, would be very surprised if other clubs weren't already doing so. -
Gold Coast....six first round picks.( or how ever many they wind up with)

Exactly..... I want the club now to retract all offers and say "we'll sit down at the end of the year and start negotiations again". Let's just say his goalkicking doesn't improve, how much do we pay for a key forward who can't kick more than 50 goals a season? If he wants the big payday then he has to deliver. Put negotiations on hold so they can't be a distraction, go and get him a kicking coach and let's revisit this in 12 months time. -
I missed the Swans/Crows game. For those that saw it how did they see Nankervis's game?

Fair call, most likely won't happen for reasons you have mentioned , I just think the way Dusty plays would suit Adelaide.

Yeah I read something in FB earlier today. I actually think it would be a good fit.

It's based on the railways (rail construction). I spent six years in the industry. But most of the characters and scenarios would be relatable to most. -

I went to film school, I'm actually writing a six part comedy based on the construction industry. If anyone is interested I made a short 8 minute action movie. -

If Hogans mindset truly is "he's waiting to see how we go next year" that is a concern, considering he's part of it. 35 metres out, slight angle, sprays it right. -

What's with the "chap"? Everyone knew he was gone, Roo's had limited options and we had to play him. -

Saty, i can recall Roo's getting asked the question and his response was just that, "if I thought a player was leaving I wouldn't play him", No I've never met him. Out of interest, was it Roo's first season as coach when he started to play Chip forward, now at the time Hogan was out for the season but the thought process was "preparing the backline for life after Chip". -

STMJ called for Garland to be moved on last year and was shot down by most. Many hid behind by the "I'm prepared to back the footy department in", 12 months on Garland has 2 years left and can't buy himself a game. As I said in an earlier post, the whole "wait for the CBA line" is garbage for a player who stands to get a million dollars a season. And if its not garbage then he obviously isn't worried about team balance. I didn't buy Roo's line about "if he knew a player was leaving he wouldn't play him" after Frawley continued to rack up cheap games. The club needs to start talking to Peter Wright, time for us to start working the angle on players who "may" want to come home. -
I know this is a thread about Dunn but it's funny how quickly the love for Garland has dried up.

Would a straight swap be enough?

Fox Footy article on FB. Tom Petroro says Hogan will play for Melbourne next year "I can't see him playing anywhere else in 2017", but couldn't guarantee his future after that. If that some sort of player agent code for "Jesse is waiting to see what direction West Coast and Fremantle take? -

If Hogans kicking improves as along with our midfields ability to deliver the ball to him I think 70 goals per season should be the pass mark. -

I'm probably alone on this one but i don't see how the CBA really affects players decisions that are/have the potential to be on contracts of 1 million or higher. How much is enough? Is keeping the team together a priority? Hawks have/had players taking pay cuts over the past couple of years, Jesse has/had a contract in front of him for potentially around the million per season but is supposedly holding off to see how the CBA plays out....so he can ask for more? At the same time he continues to miss easy shots on goal arguably bringing his price down. Never fear Freo will most likely blow the budget to finally land their big fish.
