The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
74 shots on goal from 21 games (round 13 v Sydney, played in heavy rain, team kicked 4 goals for the entire match) for a return of 41 goals 33, he got his fair share of the footy. A lot of his misses were no more than 35 metres out and a less than 45 degree angle so no, your not going to kick too many when you continue to miss sodas. Yes the midfield has areas it needs to work but so does Hogan. -

There's a great example of it happening and no doubt it can happen again, i really hope Hogan can fix this part of his game, but at the moment is has to be a concern and should be factored in to any contract negotiations. As a side note I don't believe age has anything to do with it. Joe Danniher could also benifit from some extra sessions. -

If Hogan goes I'd play Watts, Weed and Pedo or play a smaller forward line. -

I bloody hope not. Dawes is cooked regardless of what Hogan does. -

Lock it in. Judd for Kennedy, Pick 3 = Masten (Danger went at 10), Pick 20 Tony Notte (2 games) Danger for Dean Gore?? 0 games 2016, pick 9 and 28, Crows must of used picks as part of a deal elsewhere as they picked Wayne Milera at 11. Our of interest I looked up the most recent high profile trades. If he goes hopefully it's to Freo, this years and nexts first round picks. We've nailed our picks the last two years, and we're still a year or two off being a serious threat. Learns to kick for goal.... In earlier posts you've eluded to "fixing it over the pre season", as in 1 pre season, whats that based on? In your opinion what will be the difference between Jesse and a Travis Cloke or a Nick Riewoldt who have been the best contested marks of the footy for years but have struggled their whole careers with set shots on goal. Collingwood employed a sports psychologist to try and help Cloke, obviously it didn't work. Hawthorn tried to change Buddy's run up to straight instead of the arc but he kept deferring back to it, in the end with Buddy he was having so many shots on goal you took the good with the bad, 9 goals 1 or 4 goals 5. My friend who coaches TAC has attended many AFL coaches clinics, he told me that when asked such names as Al Clarkson, John Longmire, Chris and Brad Scott and David Parkin were all in agreeance, it takes hundreds of hours to try and fix someone's set shot routine, and in many cases the attempt is unsuccessful. No one is doubting Hogans contested marking ability but we need to seriously entertain the thought that he may struggle with his set shots on goal for his whole career. How much is a key forward worth that can't kick from outside 50 and struggleds from 30-40 metres out on a slight angle on a regular basis? Have we got the next Travis Cloke on our hands? 80 goals from two seasons is a great effort but he could have had 100+ if he could kick straight, he wasn't stuck on 80 for lack of opportunities . We also must remember how many key forwards have had his body shape in their first two seasons. Anyone putting their hand up (or fielding offers) for a million plus per season needs to be delivering ideally 70-80 goals a year and then deliver in the big moments in the big games when it really counts. I'm not saying we should get rid of him, I'm just saying we don't want to get out pants pulled down with his contract. If he decides to go, so be it its out of our hands, if he decides to stay, great, any previous offers are torn up and we can see how he goes next year with regards to his accuracy and offer a contract accordingly. It's not a case of softening the blow, it's simply the club putting the club first and paying people what their actually worth not based on potential. -

If he is to go we want two top 10 picks as opposed to two first rounders. -

AFL Semi Finals Weekend 2016
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dogs are blowing all kinds of theory's (excuses) out of the water. - injuries - playing underdone players - lack of finals experience - the travel factor from the week before With the exception of rd 23 against Freo and round 13 against Geelong they have come switched on to play every week. Yes they had other losses but were still competitive in those games. Time for us to cut the crap and switch on mentally for a whole season.- 286 replies

AFL Semi Finals Weekend 2016

Someone rang KB yesterday with a 2nd team of Dogs who were either injured or not selected, was a reasonable side. -

Tend to agree, I would ask though how do they land Hogan, McCarthy and Hill? Who is Rory Lobb linked to? -

Who's in charge of improving Jesse's kicking action when having shots on goal? If it's going to be so easy to fix as many think why have so many players over the years struggled with it their whole career. -
Not worth starting a new thread for. But let's keep a eye on Toby Nankervis this weekend and see how he goes.
-
I've made similar points for years, but according to some on here it's too much to expect a team to come switched on for 22 games a year. Youth isn't the answer/excuse, you nailed it with "cultural".

Nankervis as a ruck option.
-
But the problem is it's not always what we want. If they are guaranteed a game....

Having a strong VFL side doesn't always equate to real AFL depth. Grimes : if not sitting on 98 games would he have even played? His VFL numbers mean little when you consider how long he's been in the system and how they stack up when playing senior footy. Age 27 Newton : 2 games. Age 24 Michie : 4 games. Age 24 Dawes : 6 games (was injured but has been passed by others) Age 28 Garland : 6 games. Age 28 Lamumba : 5 games. Age 29 turning 30 in November. 2 years to run on what we would assume to be a reasonable contract. Concussion issues, may never play again. Spencer : 0 games. Age 27 turning 28 next month. Trengove : 3 games. Age 25. It's a big wait and see. Are any of the above really going to have any kind of substantial impact at the top level at any club again? M Jones, Dunn may get a look in at another club. JKH and ANB both are contracted for next year and could be argued both are still developing. Ben Kennedy would be considered a quality depth player. Yes there are others I may have missed but it's late and I'm tired. When I look at like this I seriously question what depth we really have.

I'd keep Pedo regardless, we're only 1-2 injuries away from trouble, we still lack depth in some areas.
