  1. Somebody asked about the tackling, John Muggleton was showing them another method today said as far as I could hear "Collingwood are practicing dropping the shoulder to bump off the tackler , so use this if it looks like they are doing it" Clint.....try speaking to Col Sylvia, he is totally aware he has stuffed up in the past, but he has also had a rotten run with injury and fitness, he desperately wants to shove it up people, hopefully this year will be it As for Strauss, he is nearly back to where he was pre broken leg and he is looking really confident and he has done the full preseason It is the same with Jetta and Davey that is why both a looking completely different, my man Nev is my pick for the biggest improver this year By the way Jade Rawlings spoke to a guy he knew and said there were 41 on the track today, he had never seen that in his whole career in January The only one I did not see today was Terlich And as for Neeld he hides under cap and watches, lets Craig and the other coaches run the drills, best way I reckon
  2. At the moment Howe is playing forward, haven't seen him do much stoppage work, reckon if we get the rest of the forwards firing, he will be given licene to wander Sellars and Gillies are the same, big strong gorilla minders, it is nice to have one never mind two Blease for blinding speed......gliding Barry....... think Kent is as fast as Blease and Evans if he can get fully back is no slouch either Col Sylvia wants exactly what we all want If Rodan is not in the team for the 1st game I will be amazed, although with Neeldl who knows Tapscott looks trimmer, think the role they are looking at for him is defensive forward
  3. When the first match simulation was on went to far end to watch Dawes and Hogan, Dawes was all talk directing young Jess where to go etc, was great to see, Dawes and Pedersen are working fine together.
  4. Just got back home, too nice a day to be inside, couple of observations Love Tommy Mc as much as everybody, please keep a lid on it, I was pleased to see he was beaten twice by Jesse Hogan on the lead, because it showed me what I have to look forward to next year as well, and the Nicho incident, he still has a bit to learn, but he is great to watch. Myself and my lovely lady thought (in no particular order) these were out stand outs today Davey, Jetta, Blease, Dawes, McDonald, Rodan, Grimes Of the new guys, Toumpas and Barry showed something, and Kent surprised me once with his speed in the match simulation But all in all everybody put in John Muggleton (the tackling coach) has them working hard on the techniques, today was giving them an alternative method, great to see them sticking, particularly when doing the match simulation As for the way the teams were broken up for match simulation, read nothing into it, been to a few trainings it changes all the time, we need everybody comfortable with everybody else Had a chat with a few Jack Trengove - he is coming along fine with his rehab, didn't lose too much fitness, looking fwd to playing with Toumpas Mitch Clark - still on target with his rehab, you can sense he is champing at the bit Aaron Davey - happy, feeling great, loves he has got the full preseason under his belt Nev Jetta - same as Aaron , just wants to show what he can do Jimmy Toumpas - he just smiles, he is just loving it, told him to keep the beard for team photos tomorrow. Col Sylvia - again happy to be out on the paddock injury free and nearly a full ;preseason under his belt, can't wait for start of the season Nathan Jones - just wants to play Rory Taggert - another injury free, knows he has a battle on his hands to get into the side but will give it everything Michael Evans - really pleased to be back, no problems now, another who knows the challenge ahead, got interrupted by Neil Craig whilst talking to 'Pickles", asked me what I thought of 'Pickles' so pumped up his tyres Jack Watts - compared beards, another who is feeling really fit and just wants to play Jack Viney - just can't wait for the season, told him not to hit the first stoppage at a hundred miles an hour, and he just laughed, can't wait to see him in action
  5. Can Josh come on the board and say so.....I agree turn Casey down and go to Mansfield....NOT.....the relationship is fine, the MFC supporters would go ballistic if players who need an op weren't sent so they will be ready for day 1 of preseason if they could.so they may not be allowed to play.....also you need a certain amount of games to qualifty for the finals with Casey so it may be a case of the VFL rules it is all a .no win situation..no matter what...Casey did ok.....if you are going to trot out the same old lame 'facts' about the Casey Scorpions at least get it right...how does the journalist know Melbourne have a preference for a full time coach...Lovett was part time and the job was his to keep if he wanted it Casey have a really good coach now anyway....and a proven one, not somebody just starting out
  6. Have you ever seen him play at Casey, or just the Junior highlights?Suggest you have a look, such a sweeping statement can come back and hurt you Cook was a completely different case
  7. So an average of 1.4 free kicks per game against him is too mamy? I do really love how one person puts something in a post on this board and it becomes a self perpectuating myth And I would suggest that he gets to more contests to tackle and maybe give frees away. Jonesy has same average, would you like to say the same about him? And Jordie McKenzie is higher
  8. What does a top 8 side at training look like, never been to one, assume they don't drop the ball, miss a kick, drop a mark, break into a sweat, look unkempt in their training tops, not get a hair out of place........... this is training...... they have now been at it solidly for nearly four months.........I am waiting to watch the praccy games and then the NAB Cup and then decide if we have improved or not I have been to training about seven or eight times and have been impressed by the effort being put in, that's all I am interested in at the moment
  9. i thought this was a topic about today's training, from the look of the pictures there were a few people there so hopefully we will get a report posted to get us back on topic.......obviously Bail is going to be one of the moving targets this season alongside Dunn....Bail has played 30 odd games so let's wait and see shall we.....he is like Jetta when fit Neeld picks him so he must see something
  10. Expressing your opinion and personally berating or villifying anybody who has the temerity to disagree will get you banned...can't see the problem in that....one reason why there are 2 board, lack of control on 'Ology
  11. so just like Moe then?
  12. There are a few 'pure' small forwards left, Milne springs to mind, but the game is changing at such a pace, think personally we will have rotating midfield/forwards such as Blease, Howe, Jones etc with possibly a defensive forward Tapscott...Byrnes will do what he did at Geelong...up and down the wings.......the forward line will be packed with firepower this year....hoping with our revamped midfield we can get it to them
  13. Positivity.......been to training quite a few times.... Tapscott and Blease are training with the forwards Grimes with the midfield When Neeld took over he inherited a squad and had to do a bit of patching......he now has the squad he wants..... Added Gillies another gorilla to our already developing defence, we have cover for every defensive position or Neeld can play mix and match against any opposition forward set up As for the ruck, go to training or read the reports, Spencer is coming on leaps and bounds, I stood next to him a couple of weeks ago, he is bloody ginourmous, but his running is something to watch, and I reckon his kicking is getting better and better each time I have seen him, rucking against Jamar every training session is teaching him so much....Fitzy is also a reasonable stop gap...until Gawn is ready.....he is not exactly small these days either
  14. Sitting in my local cafe hhaving a leisurely brunch, browsing with the free wifi.......read the mentioned article ,what a piece of rubbish....obviously based on biased media reports and boards...on another teams board, what was it expected to say?.. Grimes in the backline?.....no mention of Jones in the midfield, but Blease is?.... no Dawes in the forward line... no small defenders?...Nicholson musn't ring a bell RB, it is a beautiful Melbourne Sunday...and you let the hair shirt wearers out....... I am with you though...this year we will surprise..
  15. CS was part of the team who persuaded a highly respected European Car Maker who wanted a presence in Austrlalia to use MFC as one of its vehicles pun intended......how many of the keyboard heroes on here could do the same........I have come out from behind Satyricon a couple of times when posters have p***** me off...if u are going to criticise a bloody good CEO let's hear about your achievements....me, not interested in promotion or a high position, the politics take over....so no idea what it takes to be a CEO and don't want to CS for me is doing a great job
  16. i cannpt believe the reaction to this rarticle....it is condescending for a start...it may appeal to the hair shirt wearers amongst the MFC supporters but Iam not anybody's POOR Melburne supporter...besides which it is nearly a straight copy of the thoughts and opinions expressed by Neil Craig in his presser........quality jjournalism AGAIN NOT
  17. I have watched a bit of what they are practicing from behind, it is a grab of the shirt or shorts and you fall to drag the player backwards
  18. What Muggleton is teaching them is not to prop ie stop dead stay on your toes, also to read which way the player is going to attempt to step, that way the tackle sticks and they dont just 'wave an arm' as they go past He is also teaching them to tackle low and push backwards and upwards, that way the player can't slip down and the arms up, even Barry who is a stick seems to be listening instead of taking Tapscott front on, he has the side, arms nice and low and under one arm and pushing backwards
  19. In answerr to a couple of questions Mugglleton is there to stop the arm waving, slinging and head highs, he laughed when I pointed out at one of the first traiining sessions I watched he had to point out to the players that if a player steps left first he is going right....he said he is still teaching Rugby internationals (supposedly the best) how to tackle,.Neeld wants the opposition to know we will tackle and tackle hard, during the tackling drills if you do it wrong you are singled out....I watched in November and it is already showing improvement Grimes, seems to be running unrestricted, but my partner was in right place at right time and after he had finished he was discuussing his left thigh with medicos, so maybe it is a bit of both, a lot of problems he has had are back and thigh related
  20. You will also see a pic of the 2 Viney at training, Todd was coaching Jack during their time together, Jack took the wrong option in the length of the field drill a couple of times and was nailed, assume it was about this....Choco Royal also had a word as well at the end, lot's of pointing etc from both Todd and Choco...great to see..no historionics just education
  21. As for Barry, Nev Jetta also likened him to Michael Long, so no pressure on the young guy at all, but really good to watch... The young 'small' new guys, which also included Blease, were also given a separate tackling class by John Muggleton, who I spoke to after he had finished... he is enjoying coachiing the players and said the days of arm waving will be over by the time he has finished with them
