WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JEFF GARLETT
CBDees replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am happier with that scenario than the one mooted which offered picks 2 & 3. Also l could part with Tapscott but feel Toumpas has a lot of inside to him that l don't want to see emerge at another Club! -
Not sure about the Dangerfield rumour of trading him for picks 2&3 (which is also mooted to involve sending Toumpas back home despite the MFC website saying only recently that he was a required player). Effectively Melbourne would be giving away three top three draft picks for one player! No thanks; l don't care how good he is! I have confidence in Roos, Goodwin and Stone as being capable of developing our own superstars. It is is not as though we are in a Premiership window next year and we do have a succession plan in place with Roos/Goodwin! I am quite happy to have Brayshaw, McCartin/Wright and Toumpas in our stable of home grown stars!

Yes interestingly enough that Chip didn't say that he wanted to see his new Club Hawthorn throw any morsel our way for picking up one of our best players. This is in contrast to Mitch who at least was on record as saying that he would like to be dealing with a Club that gave us fair compensation. I realise that by FA versus trade the situations were different but Chip was on record as saying that he had 'red and blue blood coursing through his veins'!

I am still comfortable with the idea of retaining our two picks and utilising them on Brayshaw and either McCartin or Wright. If we cannot get a ready-made "superstar" through trading pick 2, let us draft Brayshaw and let Stone, Goodwin and Roos develop him into our own home-grown hero! -

Not sure about the Round 1 line-up that you suggest as Dawes will be suspended. Maybe replace him at CHF with Gawn or move Pederson there and replace him in the pocket with JKH? -

I agree with DA. Rather see Spencer traded than Fitzy. Fitzy has more upside as a forward with capacity to also give us depth in the ruck!Plus l suspect that the FD have arranged a deal that Carlton will accept. -

Both as l understand it!. Roos wants him and he wants to join us! There is even an article to this effect on theMFC website. -
I suspect that (according to the Phantom drafts) the Bullies will still secure their gun forward in Wright, who may even end up better than McCartin.

I would rather use an additional second rounder on somebody like Cockatoo (if North haven't beaten us to the punch). I am sure that we get Frost with a deal involving a lower round pick. -

Mitch Clark is obviously worth more than the other two and l am sure most Demon supporters would rather he was still dominating our forward line. The reality however is that most Demonlanders believed that he was lost to us (& AFL football) when he retired earlier this year and we have all only recently found out that the MFC astutely kept him under contract which is now playing to our advantage. Effectively we obtain HL for nothing due to this foresight (plus we have enjoyed Jetta playing in our first 22 all year)! -

We probably won't need 28 for HL with talk of a three player swap involving, HL, MC and Travis Varcoe. -
Pretty persuasive argument for hanging onto our second round pick just in case!

Judging from the AFL website, the most likely scenario to get Lumumba to us involves the use of zero picks, merely an exchange of players between three clubs:1) Mitch Clark from Melbourne to Geelong 2) Travis Varcoe from Geelong to Collingwood 3) HL from Collingwood to us. Not entirely fair but as nobody has to trade their draft picks at least the three Clubs maximise their other trade/draft options! -
Whilst there has been much speculation as to what our two choices might be should we retain and use picks 2&3, little has been said on Demonland in relation to Wright. In many ways he could be even more imposing in the forward line than McCartin as well as a good acquisition to our ruck stocks! Thoughts? p.s. Of course, should St. Kilda select McMartin, grabbing both Petracca and Brayshaw is a no brainer!

Agree in principle however we would be expecting big things of them in years two and three. Having said that however, l would not be surprised if both these kids (Petracca and Brayshaw) didn't have an immediate impact (a la Ollie Wines) as they both have mature bodies, coupled with the right mindset and A+ skills!

It is safe as long as:1) GWS are happy to do that trade for Shiel; and 2) GWS don't take Brayshaw with pick 3.

Nice thoughts but we haven't yet received Geelong's second-rounder to kick things off. Personally l believe we should push Geelong for their second and third rounders in exchange for Mitch, otherwise we should threaten to deal with Collingwood with MC and ask for HL and a pick. Either way we get HL and a pick in exchange for Mitch. Don't worry both Geelong and Collingwood would both like to have Mitch on their forward line! -

I like the idea of a swap for Blease! Two players who did not realise their undisputed potential this year but would like to try to achieve it at another club. Fair swap IMO! -

Maybe we could redraft him and force him to play in our forward line alongside Hogan and Dawes as was our original intention! -

I quite agree that it is a no-brainier! After we swap Mitch to get HL, the deal with GWS to bring in Frost, we should just sit back and snap up Petracca and Brayshaw, both of whom have the bodies to play immediately. If we miss Petracca, we take McCartin as a mate for. Hogan, no big deal. With Trengove, Salem and Toumpas all coming back off a full preseason, there are a lot of Clubs who are in a worse spot than the Dees next year! -
If St. Kildare use pick 1 on McCartin, then we keep pick 3 to use on Petracca. Nothing wrong in not trading our high picks and securing the top two kids in this year's draft! Don't forget, whilst they are developing, we still have Vince, Tyson and Jones plus Viney, Salem and Trengove, each with another full pre-season under their belts. Of course, all this is contingent on knowing St Kildar's plans before we do anything.

If we are talking about trading what we receive from Geelong, why not deal directly with Collingwood who would also like Mitch in their forward line? Mitch is still contracted on our list until after the trade period (31 October) so to a large extent we hold the cards in relation to HL, Mitch, the Cats and the Pies! Without satisfying us no deal gets done and Mitch and HL could each each find themselves in the PSD where we also hold all the cards!
