  1. I despair! McCartin to the Pies? They are the least deserving team after Essendon!
  2. Are you suggesting pick number 3 because he won't be there at 40?
  3. As the AFL website is suggesting that the Western Bulldogs might pick him up with their first pick (#26) then it would be very lucky indeed if Oscar is still there at #40!
  4. It is possible to do this and it may well be what transpires. The other option of de-listing and rookieing him however simply allows us to recruit an additional player from the main draft or PSD rather than use the Rookie draft, thereby [slightly] improving the value of our list by drawing from stronger pools.
  5. Whilst there can be no argument with adding Jetta to our main list, were Strauss and Blease the two that we had to sever and were King and Harmes the two Rookies that we should retain? Any Demonlanders with a different view to our football department?
  6. Surprised that the poll associated with this thread consistently puts Lever as the third pick (presumably after St Kilda takes Petracca and we take Brayshaw). Not quite sure why Demonlanders go against the experts and place Lever ahead of McCartin and Wright, especially when we have just added Frost to our list who plays down back?
  7. Which would be a good thing given the departure of Frawley (especially with their youth)!
  8. Depends how may rookie spots we have [unless a late pick is there].
  9. Michie was traded from Freo for 54 > big difference!
  10. Isn't this "The Oscar McDonald Thread"?
  11. Neither.were Nathan and Matt Jones. {Thinks > I wish that I hadn't started this!]
  12. We are talking about the second generation of MacDonakds [this time spelt McDonald], rebirthed as KPDs instead of midfielders.
  13. Judging by the discussion on the other thread, we could do a lot worse than picking up Oscar. Might be the depth we need in the back as a long-term proposition and he seems at least the equal if not better than his brother. Oscar McDonald - 194cms, not sure we need another key back but brotherly connection means we will look at. Great 2nd half and has competitive heart With due acknowledgement to Dee-liscious, I have re-posted the following from his "Oscar McDonald Thread: Currently doing a number on Peter Wright in the TAC finals. Probably most exciting thing is that he can kick! Last couple of matches he has really increased his draft standing. We would need to get another early third round pick to get him. http://www.mailtimes.com.au/story/2473312/oscar-mcdonald-picked-for-victorian-draft-combine/ http://www.mailtimes...larat-roosters/ Pick 57: Melbourne Oscar McDonald Position: Key defender/forward Height: 196 cm, Weight: 88 kg, DOB: 18/03/1996 Club: North Ballarat Projected draft range 50-rookie Player comparison: Jackson Trengove Oscar McDonald is one of the better key defenders I am really bullish about in terms of advancing to the next level. He is tall and athletic, and also picks off numerous forward 50 entries with his tremendous ability to take intercept marks and rebound strongly. Best described as a general in defence, McDonald the younger brother of Melbournes Tom is extremely versatile as a defender, and, unlike most key defenders, he loves to back himself and use the ball by foot. He hits the ball flat and hard, and has a really nice turn of foot, being deceptively quick over his first few steps. The Rebels have also used him as a key forward, and hes shown he can be just as damaging at both ends. He has a fantastic leap, strong hands, a really good work rate and rarely ever goes to ground. The North Ballarat Rebels gained a top four spot with a narrow two-point win over the Oakleigh Chargers. In a low scoring affair, the Rebels were incredibly accurate having just 10 scoring shots to a mammoth 23 but getting the job done. On the other hand, Oakleigh were terrible in front of goal and will need to address that ahead of their Qualifying Final against Geelong. Oscar McDonald was again the best and pushed his finals credentials while Hugh Beasley was a shining light off half back and Toby McLean exciting up forward. North Ballarat now face Calder in the Qualifying Final while Oakleigh meet Geelong. BFGN Rising Stars Medal: 5 Oscar McDonald (North Ballarat Rebels) 4 Michael Johnston (North Ballarat Rebels) 3 Hugh Beasley (Oakleigh Chargers) 2 Kade Answerth (Oakleigh Chargers) 1 Toby McLean (Oakleigh Chargers) The gun: Oscar McDonald The younger brother of Melbournes Tom, Oscar McDonalds season has seen himself launched into the limelight as a Jackson Trengove-like defender who boasts terrific athleticism, agility, speed, a lovely kick and the ability to threaten when pinch hitting up forward. McDonald has been North Ballarats gun player this year, and arguably their most important. Playing key roles at both ends of the field, he has been a large reason why the Rebels have shot into flag contention in 2014. With a terrific ability to read the play, mixed with a combination of being able to attract and use the ball in possession, his willingness to kick goals at one end and stop them at the other will go a long way to ensuring the Rebels go deep into September.
  14. Personally I would prefer Petracca over petracca over petrecca at 2 and Brayshaw over brayshaw over Bradshaw and lever at 3.
  15. Might be the bext btother combination for us since the Febeys? (Certainly won't replicate the Cockatto-Collins duo, although their cousin shows promise.)
  16. And Sam Frost
  17. Maybe Wright may be still there at #53?
  18. What about Dunn?
  19. I am glad that somebody agrees with me on this. Admittedly his reel showed him playing in a lower comp (smaller bodies) but he absolutely dominated in leading and pack marks. What it did show however and which translates directly to AFL is his elite kicking skills from a range of angles and beyond 50 metres. He could prove the bargain KPF of the draft and create headaches for opposition when combined with Hogan and Dawes. (Plus he is a lot cheaper than Boyd whilst much the same size.)
  20. I cannot understand how so many Demonlanders do not even look at Peter Wright as an option, particularly as he appears to be Boyd Mark II. Looking at his highlight reels of him taking leading and pack marks [albeit against smaller bodies than AFL] there is no reason that a combination of him and Hogan would not be as formidable as Hogan and McCartin. His kicking is dead-eye, from an angle or from beyond 50 metres out. Of course, whatever the speculation and arguments on this Forum, it will be Roos and Co who will make the call on the day and bear responsibilty for putting together a team capable of making us a serious Finals contender yet again.
  21. Good leads, good pack marks [albeit against smaller opponents] but exceptionally accurate kicking [and can roost it through from beyond 50]! I like the kid!
  22. Kicking accuracy is Wright's main strength according to the player reviews [as is his ability to gather below his knees]. It seems that Wright and McCartin both bring different (potential) strengths and it will be a strategic decision of Roos what best meets his strategy. Whichever way we go, we are liely to emerge with a much stringer midfield and forwardline than we boasted this year.
  23. Only the first two are likely for St Kilda (Petracca or McCartin) and we are likely to collect Brayshaw under either scenario. There is a third scenario however and that is: St. Kilda take Petracca, then we take Brayshaw and Wright. The above all hinges on whether Roos feels Wright or McCartin would work better for us in his planned forwad structure with Hogan, Dawes & Garlett. By all accounts Wright is an elite kick and has the advantage of being able to share the ruck duties. McCartin might be ahead on aggression however which may also suit Roos.
  24. So might young Stretch!
