2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
A deserved winner ⭐️Xavier Lindsay 👏👏👏 His class, skill and evasive ability would have been key reasons MORRISH MEDAL (COATES TALENT LEAGUE BOYS BEST AND FAIREST) Xavier Lindsay (Gippsland Power) 21 votes Cooper Hynes (Dandenong Stingrays) 19 Jayden Nguyen (Calder Cannons) 18 Jagga Smith (Oakleigh Chargers) 18 Josh Smillie (Eastern Ranges) 17 Zak Johnson (Northern Knights) 16 Damon Hollow (Calder Cannons) 15 Tobie Travaglia (Bendigo Pioneers) 13 Isaac Kako (Calder Cannons) 12 Cody Anderson (Eastern Ranges) 11 Xavier Kardachi (Western Jets) 11 Harvey Langford (Dandenong Stingrays) 11

Trade Targets
SEN update Angus Sheldrick (Sydney) “He’s been a stand-out in the VFL since he got there, so the phone has rung a lot for him. “He would have options if he explored a trade. He played two games in 2022, seven games last year, but didn’t get a look in this year and he had a nasty ankle injury and concussion. “But he too is committed to staying for at least the final year of his contract next year. “We can put a line through him for now.” Ok … For now … Dees definitely need to be one of the teams on the phone to his manager

What’s your thoughts on the offer required? (Years? $$s??). Both would need to be sizeable.

James Peatling
Sorry. I’d like to offer 5 years !!!

Trade Targets
The Age reported that Peatling is likely to stay. He was the one player that I thought would be a very good addition for the Dees. Breakout Giants James Peatling is also weighing up his future, according to two industry sources, despite saying ahead of the club’s semi-final that he wanted to remain at GWS. The Giants have increased their offer since mid-year, with Peatling transforming into a key contributor in the midfield by season’s end, including kicking two goals in the first quarter of Saturday’s semi-final while playing on Lions star Dayne Zorko. The interest in Peatling from Victorian clubs such as St Kilda and Collingwood has not disappeared, and he is considering his future, even if he may remain at the Giants beyond 2024.

AFLW: Rd 03 vs North Melbourne
Learning opportunities | Stinear reviews Round 3 Coach Mick Stinear spoke on the Dees round 3 loss. THE DEES struggled to match it against North Melbourne on Sunday, losing by 50 points on their home deck. The Roos led the game for all four quarters, despite an early surge from Melbourne , who levelled the score towards the end of the first quarter, winning two forward half clearances, converting them both into goals. Watch Melbourne's press conference after week three’s match against Nth Melbourne Mick Stinear spoke to media post-match about the improvement required going into next week’s match against the Dockers. “I think for us, contest and clearance, and being able to get our hands on the ball first was number one,” Stinear said. “The glaring stat out of the game was the score from turnover, that was a significant difference. “There is plenty to learn for us today, and a bit of a gift early on in the season on now knowing where we need to get to, having Geelong, Brisbane, and now North.” There were still some positives to come out of the game, Stinear explaining that the loss was an opportunity to learn, knowing what they need to work on to move forward. “We feel like we got a lot out of today, and we’ve still got a big part of the season to build and evolve,” Stinear said. “Today we learnt a lot, in the second half we made a few little changes, try and learn a bit more about some people. “Getting our hands on the ball first and the way we use the ball from the inside to the outside, we think that will set up our opportunities to score.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Need to give JT at least 4 or 5 picks in this draft. There is deep talent this year. But we might only have 3 if we keep retaining the current list !!!

Coates Talent League 2024
Two Dragons players who also impressed were Lennox Hoffman & Adrian Cole. Hoffman had a good game across half back and his run and dash has improved since I saw him earlier this year. He’s under the SAINTS NGA - his father was born in Switzerland. Not sure how exactly that fits. Adrian Cole (whose father was born in Nigeria) is a tall 6”5’ defender who is also under the SAINTS NGA. Both youngsters grew up in Australia. Both defenders are likely draftees with Cole likely at 50ish and Hoffman as a likely rookie selection.

Coates Talent League 2024
Assume he’s not eligible. Who knows with those NGA rules? Maybe Dees will need to check eligibility clause 28.3 sub paragraph 7.

Delistings 2024
Interesting. Wouldn’t be the worst outcome. Obviously do the right checks on how Membrey is. Though my confidence in Tim Lamb is at a low !!!

Coates Talent League 2024
Thanks @Whispering_Jack good reading over a morning coffee. I alm glad that youngsters like Luke Kennedy (Dragons), Jack Ough (Rebels) and Zane Cochrane (Chargers) are getting recognised. This is an excellent draft and I think picks in 3rd and 4th round can still find a club some very good young players in my view.

AFLW: Rd 03 vs North Melbourne
@demonglory sugar coated review. They got beaten by 50 points. In fact it was 9 goals to 1 after quarter time. Kangas also missed two gettable other goals. Outmuscled across the park. Only McNamara and Gillard played 4 quarters. Turnovers were killers. I think Banno and Eden need to get hungry. They are looking timid. Paxy … zero tackles. Actually had 3-4 missed tackles. Turnovers killed us. We missed Harris, Purcell, Aimee Mackin & Pearce. It was always going to be a tough year. But lose to Freo, and I think it’s finals over already. Tough draw doesn’t get any easier.

Trade Targets
Carlton pair Matt Kennedy + Lewis Young have been told they’re free to look around elsewhere for a new home in 2025. Kennedy had an honest conversation with Michael Voss last week - he sees himself as an inside midfielder, the Blues see him continuing half-forward role. I’d be happy to grab Kennedy for a pick in the 50s/60s
-
Tim Membrey
Yes saw Membrey v Eagles (kicked 5) and Blues (kicked 2) and he’s a very good mark and accurate kick. He’s 31 at start of next season so it’s almost an “like for like” age profile swap with Tomlinson. Might be worth the punt to give us the added scoring power.

5 Young Dees Re-Sign
That spot is reserved most likely for Noah Yze as Cat A rookie. He’s unlikely to get drafted but I think Dees will honour the father son commitment. He’s got potential which is where the rookie list should be for. I liked to rookie list for players 18-23yo as development and not this list management strategy for older players. Just my view.

Tim Lamb
Yes to moving on Lamb. Yes to pursuing Wright … but I think he is going to the installed in the new Tassie FC structure
