Quarter Time ❤💙 Solid start to the game, plenty to build on 💪 😈 Casey 2.3.15 🐯 Richmond 2.4.16 #CaseyDemons #VFL UNBELIEVABLE… yes saw that this morning.
-
Bunch of country league youngsters More like a development squad. Casey has about 12 VFL listed players missing and NONE of the AFL listed players. Shepherd is definitely a player.
-
East Gippsland All Stars v Coburg. “Casey” team full of youngsters.
-
Finally. but how bad was the techno robotic music. Ouch. Surely these some better tunes in rhe clubs Spotify playlist !!!
-
I think MFC had 15-16 players in the Casey game yet no updates. That’s the disappointing part. The only news so far is from the “unofficial” update being that Schache kicked 5. Hoping either the Casey or MFC media get a summary or wrap or some player highlights.

Southport do “ok” due to money money and money. They attract players from other states. And guess where they get the money from ? Yes it’s the Clubs pokies !! I heard they have 300 machines. That’s how they compete. I’d rather they stuck to QAFL and we get back to true VFL.

Cotchin should get one week. But he won’t. AFL is biased on and off field. False tough guy. False nice guy. Brownlow medallion by default. Pathetic act from a so called leader !!
-
Great to see. Love practice game atmosphere. Very relaxed. Fans get to see their heroes. Youngsters getting photos and autographs and high 5s. I remember Peter Giles parked his car next to us down at Edithvale during a practice game in about 1980. He jumped the fence after the game and had a quick chat to my family and I before saying he was off to a friends birthday party. No post game debrief in those days.

POSTGAME: Practice Match vs Richmond
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lots to like from yesterday. 👍🏻Gawn and Grundy combo 👍🏻Hunter and Langdon combo 👍🏻Mcvee is a big chance to debut round 1 👍🏻Fritsch and Viney still to come in (and Salem) 👍🏻Chandler. Yes he missed some but had the energy and kicking to nail goals 👍🏻Kozzzy is a star ⭐️we love you, please stay 👍🏻May is our rock 👍🏻Trac could go to another level. Elite of the Elite. 🤔 overhandballing still is a slight concern. Yes it’s a practice match but the pressure comes in the real stuff. The extra handballs were ok yesterday but could be a problem under added pressure. Sometimes a kick to forward 50 or indeed “just kick the goal “ were needed. -
Only quarter by quarter updates on Casey Facebook. No photos. Old 2022 pics. Only news is Tigers won by a point. No mention on the Casey action or goals or players. Very low key social media at Casey. Twitter update was left at qtr time score. It’s very very poor. Not sure if it’s a lack of interest or a lack of capability. Unfortunately I think the former.

Port Melbourne have signed Bryce Milford. Makes sense as he was on the fringe and Port can guarantee him more matches/game time Bryce Milford – 20 years old, 195cm, Key Position Forward / Defender Milford has been recruited from the Casey Demons where he played 7 games in 2022 and in 2021 played 2 games for the Gold Coast Suns VFL side.

Ouch. Dunstan will look to step up until Jack gets back.

No confirmed list as yet this year. Casey might trial some players through the practice matches before finalising squad. Skipper White said a few youngsters were training but he had no names to recall to mention. He confirmed that Quigley and Ellison have moved on after the premiership. Five youngsters named so far (Moodie, FEB, ZTG, Galvin and Cross). Burgoyne could stay and be VFL listed for the year. Otherwise likely 14-15 from last years squad are probably returning.

2022 Player Reviews: 41 Judd McVee
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes agree. He looks like a natural half back and had good composure for a youngster. Looks like he can develop again at Casey but wouldn’t be out of place if he got called up. -
Kozzy Pickett Re-Signs for 4 Years
spirit of norm smith replied to Timothy Reddan-A'Blew's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pickett is a “must keep” player. Scoring power is critical and he has delivered 40 goals across both of the last 2 years, as a 20 and 21 year old. Plus his excitement factor is unrivaled in my opinion, but I’m biased. Kozzzzzy is a star. -
Yes what to spend it on. The strategy for a new home, new training base and administrative offices in one central location is a long term vision. It has been over 40 years in the planning. Such decisions cannot be rushed. Feasibility studies are an important process and the 8 prior commissioned studies by prior boards have given us important insights. The discovery process is a critical pathway on the journeys to eliminate any headwinds and manage our journey to our North Star. The thoughts around basing our future at the Albert Park precinct, Yarra Park, Goschs paddock, Kew East, Bentleigh, Caulfield Park or the Junction oval are important cash outlays to many consultants over many years to help them acquire their holiday homes across the Mornington peninsula. I’m sure this time Gary Pert will not err in appointing many consultants across many years for many millions but actually find a workable achievable outcome to a home for the Melbourne Demons within 6 kms of the MCG.

Inner Sanctum’s 2023 Season Preview of the Demons
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nothing too insightful here. It’s from the outside looking in. Not quite the “inner sanctum”. I had more informed conversations with mates over beers at the cricket club on Saturday night. Dees will be in the premiership window and it depends on injuries, strategies and how other clubs excel. Hamish was very informed and has some comments around structure, and his insight on JVR was acknowledged. ps. JJ saying “you know” every second sentence was annoying !! -

DRAFT slider Ed Allan has emerged as a potential round one bolter for Collingwood following an eye-catching pre-season, months after being selected late in the first round of last November's NAB AFL Draft. The 18-year-old has exceeded expectations across his first few months in the AFL system, completing far more work than first expected following an injury-interrupted final season of underage football. @DeeSpencer

2023 AFLW Trade Period
spirit of norm smith replied to Dees_In_October's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Smart recruiting and trading saw the Dees reach the top. Now teams that gave nil to AFLW like Hawks and Bombers can raid the established clubs. RIDICULOUS!!! -
2023 AFLW Trade Period
spirit of norm smith replied to Dees_In_October's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
The AFLW have introduced a radical equalisation measure to assist the expansion sides. The four newest clubs have been given power to sign players from other clubs in the Priority Signing Period (PSP) without the need to orchestrate a trade. what a joke!!! Raid top clubs with no exchange of players or picks. Surely that should have applied in 2007-2016 when MFC was totally in the wilderness. Clubs need to build and trade smartly. Gifts and hidden agendas are a classic AFL legacy playbook -
From the Zerohanger website Melbourne FB: Trent Rivers, Steven May, Harrison Petty HB: Angus Brayshaw, Jake Lever, Christian Salem C: Ed Langdon, Jack Viney, Lachie Hunter HF: Kysaiah Pickett, Tom McDonald, Charlie Spargo FF: Brodie Grundy, Jacob Van Rooyen, Bayley Fritsch FOL: Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca I/C: Tom Sparrow, James Harmes, Alex Neal-Bullen, James Jordon SUB: Jake Bowey Pretty good team and looks a consistent theme. Probably only Bowey for Jordon potentially. JVR should debut. Salem availability might be a query.

It has been reported that Dandenong Stingray Mitch Szybkowski signed with Frankston. That’s probably his best chance of playing VFL footy in 2023.
-
He’s a plan D insurance policy. Actually hope he doesn’t get a game because that would mean we have stacks of injuries. He’s behind 6-7 key defender types. More likely a chance if Lever and Tomlinson and Joel Smith and Dan Turner were injured. He’s not ready for AFL but has time and development so hope he gets in to benefit from a full year at Casey.
