  1. [quote name='Choko' date='Apr 10 2007, 08:41 PM' post='65194] Fair go. Yes, he makes mistakes. You remember those perfectly. What about his 3rd goal - was that a miskick? Was that in junk time? NO. And how many contested marks did other demons take? Miller's deficiencies fill this forum every time a whingeing supporter wants to come on and bag him. His strengths are that he bleeds red and blue (more than some others), has some physical presence and some size about him, will run and present all day and seems open to learning and development.
  2. I don't buy any of this positive stuff about Miller at CHF . Your'e kidding yourselves. His first goal in the first quarter was a miskick. Dropped marks, showed no around the ground awareness when he needed to shepherd teammates Took one contested mark - great. Fumbled a slick handball during a foray in the final quarter Dropped a chest mark. Took a few marks upfield, took an age to then turn around and assess options - by that time the Hawks had flooded. looked to pass off frequently. He is the best option only due to depletion of stocks. Please don't start talkimg him up on yesterdays effort. I don't think I ever saw the Ox or Lyon make as many unthinking errors in their entire careers as I saw yesterday.

His kicking HAS become lazy, but i wonder, unfortunately if time has passed and a midfielder of his physique is now not suited to the bursting type of game. Look at Jones, Moloney yesterday. They will always attempt to break through a pack, with the ball and one or two hanging off them. Moloney has made this his trademark very effectively, and Jones will by the seasons end. IMO Jones came of age in the final 1/4 yesterday in the leadership stakes by taking on the Hawks. ND dragged him only when he couldn't go anymore. Add Mc.Lean and Sylvia, and youv;e got the new prototype midfielder needed today. JUdd has perfetced this style. McLean will do likewise. Apologies to JMac. he can do whatever he likes and I'd still pick him first.
  4. I feelmuch better for reading it OMR and its a valid comparison. The Northey era commenced with a rounding out of the talent getting the likes of Viney, stretch, febeys etc, and grooming the emerging Lyon. Thanks. Good angle though and you missed a few that also qualify, like Dunn, Bate, (Davey - will get there), but ruckmen are also a priority.
  5. It's a pity, but Wrathchild is right. Rivers should be the man. He showed a lot in this area on Saturday, key position, directs the backline and a great reader of the ball. The rest need to focus on their own games and get a kick. Rivers will do that AND show direction.
  6. You mean like they played in the last 1/4 yesterday? (ignoring Wheatley's stupid 50m penalty)
  7. Exactly DD. A few points: No way did they run out of legs yesterday. Maybe Jones(he ran all day) and Moloney(still not quite fit enough) but theyr'e excused. What they did do was murder the football. e.g. Bruce running down from 1/2 back in the 3rd to a perfect Miller lead - result: ball too wide and out of bounds Godfery: too tentative to have a shot from 45m dead in front (he drilled the next one) Bruce too tentative, and short passing, again out of bounds, 2nd 1/4 Brown missing leading targets by up to 10 m all day TJ's appalling disposal Spilling marks 20m from goal (Jamar/Bate) All resutling from all or some of lack of confidence/skillsin some/lack of timely options
  8. You forgot to add 'guts'. Lats 1/4 he was the only defender 20 m from hawthorn's goal who seemed to realise we needed fast run out of defence. takes on 2 Hawks with his pace, sides step a 3rd, and then lets go with a solid 50 m pass to half forward. I forget what happened, but that was the sign of someone who decided to DO something.
  9. Youv'e just answered you own question. Except for Yze, maybe ND doesn't award sympathy spots in the team - nor should he! If Bizzell can get a spot on the bench, his added experience, along with the wonderful Rivers gives us a shot at keeping them to a losing score.
  10. I suspect the view is that Holland has no match up, and in my view (although I wasn't at the game), there have been a few comments that the Saints were happy to allow him to have the ball as the drive from way back in defence dried up. Maybe ND is looking for a more re-bounding style from half-back which many here have said is needed from last week.?
  11. Enough already!. This post was started to just lighten the place up a bit before Monday's important game. Dragging Neil Young into the mix is going too far.
  12. [quote name='Nasher' date='Apr 5 2007, 08:41 AM' post='63892] How on Earth could you forget Neil Balme?
  13. Just in case things go pear shaped next week, my nomonations for who should NOT be appointed as ND's successor are: Neil Busse Neil Simon Robert Neal Cowboy Neale Neil Brooks Neil Roberts Neil Mitchell............................. Any others??
  14. This post gratefully appreciated RR , as an MCC and MFC(Full) member. As long as your'e a..se points to the ground and your'e prepared to follow some reasonable rules on behaviour and dress you will be admitted. You just need to wait 20 years. BTW the club funds the new stands etc, so in some ways the MCC members are responsible for the fantatsic home ground the MFC plays on. I along with many others support and follow the team there. But my daughter is one of the 3000 who joined the MFC under the new scheme, and hopefully many of the remaining 15000 will too. It does place the demons in a unique position but most match days with Melb at the 'G' theres a pretty good turn-out. There is a serious latent following in this base, and all things equalised, I reckon the MFC membership base is more like 35,000 in reality than 25000.
  15. [quote name='TonyMelb' date='Mar 31 2007, 09:43 AM' post='62932] The performance last night was a repeat of the NAB game against Hawks and in both cases our handball happy gamestyle has made the other side look impressive!
  16. seriously concerned our defence will not keep Saints to a losing score. No CHB, Holland must be out for someone with legspeed, C.Johnston MUST play defence
  17. Great post. Can this be the final word on the subject?
  18. Once again, you misinterpret and misquote to suit your view. A common issue on this site with some. The leadership GROUP, of which the Captain is a major component, IS a key issue in season fadeouts. Its a too common pattern to ignore at your peril. Under Northey for example, the dees were never beaten till the final siren in many a agme, esp. when the pressure was on. History is written by the victors, and last year's St.Kilda final was NOT won by brock mcLean alone, as many on this thread seem to be running up the flagpole. Carrolls crunch on Gherhig, Davey's brilliant take-on of the St. Kilda defence hard on the boundary, late in the game, Bell's courage, yes and Mcleans drive from the centre. Even Yze's opportunistic goal late in the game (He always does I know, but knoone else seems to get in the right position - he does it more often to be coincidence.)
  19. Don't take it personally BB. It often happens here - a reasonably well thought out post seems to confuse some, so let's resort to one-liners. What intrigues me about this thread is that most agree Neitz is a great leader. In my view , MFC, on the field has shown a singular lack of leadership given the constant late season fade outs which have now become expected. It's already being aired in the media as our perrenial weakness. The Brock McLean focus by many merely serves to illustrates we ain't got that many to chose from.
  20. Most disagreeing with Max. Bob seem to do so on the common premise that unless you can run through someone, you don't qualify for leadership's top job. What a load of crap. Some examples of fine leaders: Brett Kirk, Chris Judd, Robert Flower, Garry Lyon, James Hird, Darrell Baldock, Peter Crimmins, Keith Greig. etc. All can take punishment bravely, like Bruce, but didn't necessarily run through opponents. If that was the case, types like Dermie would have got the gig over Michael Tuck. Bruce will make a very good captain if fit, and with his age, then a good transition to McLean. Bruce has been handed one of the biggest disappoinments - missing out on a GF team due to injury - spit the dummy? Not likely.
  21. Yes I did, and Sorry, I'm not convinced by an attitude of Worsfold that borders on spin last night. He was asked specifically about the Federal police wire tap evidence (admissable in court if approved by Authorities) 5, yes 5, years ago. guess what - he didnt answer the question. That club's heirachy is doing a masterful act of "..gee if only we'd known sooner..." If you believe Worsfold's approach last night you'll believe anything. Last week Dalton Gooding's performaance was equally simplistic. Yes, Cousins didnt have to get involved i that lifestyle, but let's agree that being a star in WA, highly paid, is not exactly reality as we know it. They have some level of responsibility they refuse to accept.
  22. Couldn't agree more. Worsfold is part of ther cultural issue at West Coast -lambasting critical journalists, demanding good press coverage, not taking criticism etc. he walked out of a conference only last week. The amusing irony of all this, if it was such a serious matter for Cousins, is that Worsfold is a Pharmacist by profession.
  23. We've all had adversity to overcome. The Point RR makes is valid and in my view, the Ox ( and i loved watching him play) is playing a role on SEN as 'the controversial one' and needs to make ridiculous statements from time to time to encourage listeners to call up eg: Angry from Avondale.. In truth, as a commentator and opinionator, he is way out of his depth. ( BTW - I'm not sticking up for RR - I'm sure he can do this for himself)
