  1. One thing you could bet your house on is that Simon Goodwin and Alan Richardson would have driven over to Tracs house tonight to talk all this through. Probably big Max as well.
  2. Just holistically, it's really difficult for me to see a way that Petracca could leave the Dees because of frustration due to the clubs direction and Simon Goodwin remain the head coach, the teams direction and spirit and the happiness of all players, but especially the star players is directly his responsibility.
  3. it's not as though it's difficult to see why players would be frustrated with a lot of what's happened since 2021. The way his injury was handled was really really ordinary, i don't think he was thrilled with how the clarry stuff was handled either.
  4. Ted Lasso replied to Pirlo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gawn is the best Melbourne captain i can remember so i would say it's his role until he doesn't want it anymore. I would have said Gus was a real chance to be the next captain if not for his concussions unfortunately, the guy was the heart and soul of the club. if Gawn decided to give it away i would say it'd be a co-captains situation with Petracca, Viney and Lever.
  5. We drafted him and he played a huge role in our drought breaking flag, and then he moved on respectfully and we got a solid return in the trade, we drafted him knowing the risks and i can't bring myself to regret any of this process.
  6. The problem is that we actually have a really good drafting record under Jason Taylor, he has a lot more wins than busts, and if we recruit Dan Houston it perhaps makes us better for 2-3 years, but then the cliff comes and we are trying to rebuild right as Tasmania enters the league. I am all for recruiting Houston, but not if it means including pick 7 in the deal, we need to keep using our strong draft selections for the next 2-3 years to stay competitive and find our recruits outside of that.
  7. I'd start this by saying there are very few circumstances where i'd even consider trading jack viney because it would be a culture killing disaster. But hypothetically, he's contracted and our vice captain, i'd be saying to North Melbourne if you want him it'll cost pick 2. if they don't like that deal they can find another veteran to try and pry out of a club.
  8. In fairness, they're big boys. I suspect most people "Look up" to them ;)
  9. Great bloke but on the decline as a footballer and has some baggage, i'd probably prefer us back in Turner, Jefferson and Van Rooyen.
  10. If he is interested in coming back move heaven and earth to get him back to the Dees, this guy is the absolute top of what he does and if he stayed i suspect we would have won 2-3 premierships. that's how big an impact he makes.
  11. It's not one bad year though, it's documented long term behavioral issues and an inability to reach club standards over several years, it's been excused because of his quality as a player, but the club decided to put culture first and pull him into line. If after all of that we decide to revert back to just allowing the standards to slip what i can guarantee you is we will lose some of our really good players like Petracca, Lever and so on who were fed up with it, and additionally any chance of building the kind of culture Gary Pert dreamed that we had will be exactly zero. It doesn't matter how good the player is, if they don't want to do the right things, they need to go. I personally hope Clarry has turned a corner and he will be back to his best in 2024, but i absolutely stand by the common sense assertion that if he hasn't, the club should and i suspect will look to trade him. All indications as of right now are that he's made significant progress and he should be incredibly proud.
  12. My gut feel on Oliver is it sits on a knifes edge, the club is backing him, but if he slips up i think he'll be traded. I am sure there are some within Olivers camp that probably think a fresh start might even be the right thing for him. I personally hope he has a full pre season and bounces back to his best next year, but i think we as a club will be okay regardless of which way this one goes.
  13. I really like Langford and the dream of he and Petracca being goal kicking mids who go forward and make an impact, but i get the feeling he'll go in the top 5 and be just out of reach unfortunately.
  14. i am 100% with you, i'd go as far as saying i wouldn't include pick 7 in the deal. there is no doubt he's a very good player, but given where we're at and the midfield talent in this draft i think that pick is gold for us. I'd look to offer something like our future first round pick and Tom Sparrow
  15. I dunno picket! some of my best games have come against the bye. 😆
  16. it's pretty putrid, i hope every single supporter of every club boo's him.
  17. He's contracted so i think they'd just say no. maybe a future first and Tom Sparrow?
  18. I think Port will 100% ask for 2 first round picks for him, but Pick 6 or whatever we have for Houston seems like a fair enough deal for both sides.
  19. Simon Goodwin 9 years as coach Win %: 57.2 Finals win %: 50% 1x premiership 3x top 4 finishes 1x minor premiership 1x coach of the year award I think the thing i'd suggest posters consider is if you were offered this record at the beginning of his tenure, simply by virtue of the 1 premiership i think 99% of posters would take it without hesitation. The next part of this argument is, if we sacked him tomorrow, are we really better off with an untried coach over a coach with a nearly 60% win record? Unless we could somehow lure John Longmire, Chris Scott or Dimma i really don't see there being any benefit in sacking Goody as of right now.
  20. He's a good player, but i wouldn't consider him a super star, i'd suspect the deal would if he requested a trade consist of our first round pick, and perhaps some other swap of picks/players. Not sure i'd be willing to give up 2 first rounders for Dan Houston, maybe a first and a future second or something like that.
  21. Call me crazy, but it's hard not to watch Windsor go about it and think at some stage he will captain the club. Has a Robbie Flower level ceiling as a player in my opinion.
  22. Nick Bryan is the one i'd go for from the dons, he's a good contested mark, plays a similar game style to Max although not to the same standard, he's still young and can learn off Max before taking over, can provide a good target forward. I've got no doubt the dons plan for him to take over post goldy, but we had interest last year, and i'd be shocked if we didn't ask the question again.
  23. I've very recently come around to this way of thinking, i used to think that the club would basically implode if Jesse Hogan left, and we turned his departure into Steven May and a premiership, i have no doubt the club will be okay if Clarry moves on, though i'd be dissapointing to see a talent like that not go on to become an all time great demon. I just hope if as you suggest it'd decided that a mutual parting of ways is the best thing, the trade outcome is a positive one for the MFC, for example if he was going to the Crows, their pick 5 would be the center piece of that trade and they'd take on his contract in full. Given the situation with Angus Brayshaw and us still having to pay part of his contract, i think it'd be a disaster to be paying two of our stars to not play for the club. If we are going back to re-establishing our culture, which we should regardless of clarry, it would seem the right thing to do is move on anyone who doesn't fit the mould of the type of person we want at the club.
  24. Hahah he's a die hard Blues fan and his bias prevented him from seeing what was obvious to most, that Clarry was leveraging Carlton interest to get his 7 year deal, which he did, and it worked.
