It does give Melbourne the upper hand in a trade imo. If you’re moving out multiple best 22 players just to get the blokes salary covered, it makes it hard to lowball in a trade. They’re going to this extent they have to pony up to get it done.
-
Jake riccardi from the giants might be worth a look.
-
Nathan Jones is spot on. Paying a guy a mil a year on potential is insanity. LJ would walk in as their most highly paid player having played like 40 games, and shown brilliant flashes but not been able to perform consistent. It’s a big roll of the dice
-
I’d also not underestimate the fact that the media got hold of Gus meeting with Essendon. Often these things are leaked by player managers to put pressure on the club to up the offer. this one sends a clear message to the dees that Gus wants to stay in Victoria but you’re going to have to up the offer on the table
-
You’ve gotta wonder what Sean Darcy is thinking. His “backup” coming in on a long term, high wage contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sean Darcy was a quietly pretty miffed
-
I think you could get a stronger first round selection than 20 odd. I agree with dazzle this isn’t done but I think we are in the window and letting an all Australian calibre player walk out of the club for less than he’s worth would be regrettable. his value is arguably closer to a top 10 pick and just because clubs don’t match typically doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. Unless the offer is enormous, I’d match and put it back on the team to get a deal done.
-
I can’t see any way we wouldn’t match the offer dazzle. The compensation pick would very likely be around pick 20. Matching and forcing a trade would be the only way to get a reasonable return. Granted if he nominates Fremantle it’ll be incredibly challenging for them to satisfy a trade for both Jackson and brayshaw without giving up their young core
-
This is just completely untrue. Especially with Luke Jackson probably leaving we will likely match any offer that comes for him. This is about role, and I see brayshaws point. I think if he leaves he will be an elite mid at another club
-
If we want to go back to back we need to win at least 4 of these games, ideally all 5 and really build some momentum. It’s easy to forget with all the negative talk in the media that we’ve won 3 of our last 4 and we’ve had good leads in 3 of our 4 losses. Even the Geelong game we weren’t that far off the mark in my opinion. Beat the dogs and build some momentum in the run home. Beating the dockers could really hurt their top 4 chances. But I suspect we’d like them to finish 4th coz they could definitely beat Geelong in Melbourne.

He’s been carrying injuries and Collingwood are trying to undo some poor management decisions. We know his best is up there with Gawn and the alternatives ultimately are prospects. Hard to see any other situation where we get a ruckman capable of performing anywhere near Jackson’s level without giving up the farm.
-
I will get smashed for this but I don’t hate rendells idea. Take on Grundy with the pies paying a portion of his salary and Gawn goes forward/Ruck i honestly think Grundy would get a new lease on life at the dees and we could get a potential max Gawn level ruck without huge financial or trade costs. hes apparently keen to stay in Melbourne Gawn spending more time forward could easily extend his career. my proposed trade Dockers: Luke Jackson dogs: Rory lobb and freo future first dees: Dogs 22 first (8-10) freo 22 first (15-18) and a player (Blake acres?) Freos pick then goes on for Grundy. Giving us a competent replacement for Jackson with top end potential, and a top 10 draft pick and a more than serviceable wingman feels like a good outcome given freos lack of draft picks
-
I still think Gus is a strong chance to stay. His long term partner is Melbourne based, his parents live here, and his team is going well. I think it's just others can pay more and this is probably his "big contract" so worth considering options. I reckon dogga is gone unfortunately. I just hope we stand strong at the trade table and don't get bullied into taking 2 late teens picks and an okay player. Jacko is probably the most valuable trade chip this season, I'd want a gun player and those two picks or there is no way he's going to Fremantle. It does highlight the players having too much power, I don't mind players being able to declare a preferred state, but really we should be able to deal with both Perth teams Imo
-
I want Hayden young, caleb serong their 2022 first and second and 2023 first if they want brayshaw and Jackson. I'd be 100% matching any offer for brayshaw
-
The bloke literally flipped a grand final on it's head and helped us win a flag, even IF he leaves, that selection has been completely, without a doubt worth it.
-
The Freo rumours are a bit strange if they are true, with us he's obviously earmarked to take over from Max, but at Freo Darcy is still likely to be playing for another 8-10 years, so it's a lot of money to spend for a backup ruckman, granted his talent. to me it makes more sense for West Coast who'd see him as a number 1 ruckman much sooner
-
I don't think it's that simple, the vast majority of the time the team losing a player does tend to get fairly well compensated based on market value for a player. Carlton are really the only team that seems to weaponise the pre-season draft, and i think this is going to really come back and bite them
-
If Luke Jackson did make the decision to leave the tricky thing is going to be that Fremantle viewing themselves as in the trade window and Peter Bell being notoriously difficult to deal with at the trade table could really make it a long and painful process for the club who would be without Josh Mahoney for the first time for a significant trade like this. I think both parties would quickly realise the asking price would be 2 first round picks, plus and the plus would be a really significant talking point.
-
The less contract details both financial and term are made public the better for the sanity of those who occupy fan forums.
-
JHF is totally screwing himself and Norf with the way he's behaving IMO, neither S.A club is going to offer big money for a kid having on field tantrums in his first year, and Norf are just not going to get much trade wise, they're likely going to be forced to hold him to his contract and hope things improve.
-
I was thinking this as well Darling probably isn't the personality we'd ideally love, but there is no doubt a fit Jack Darling is a step up from Brown or Weideman. If he came as steak knives in a deal that also included a really strong draft pick or picks, i think that's probably a reasonably good outcome for us.
-
I'm calling it early, Richmond are going to make a statement tonight. i have a feeling they're about to get on a bit of a run. Tigers by 36
-
I think it was a few years back Max went down and we actually performed more strongly from clearance because we became less predictable. I think all of the players should embrace this, hopefully a few guys really get after hunting the ball and our form starts to turn, i think at times the players do just take the dominance Max has for granted a little bit
-
It's pretty tough to assess what Jacksons value would be beyond to say i think personally i'd want an established player and picks, i think losing Jackson, having that immediate impact would be beneficial rather than purely just draft picks, especially if he went to Fremantle where the picks are more likely to be in the teens
-
Geez it's obvious when these media commentators pull a story out of their behinds, Unsigned W.A player receives significant offer from W.A team, i mean come on. hopefully Dogga re-signs over the bye weekend just to make him look stupid
