  1. Essendon's is grey if I recall with a red sash Not what I would call a clash jumper in the viewing sense. Collingwood's is a joke. The colours need to be from a different spectrum along with the design. Remind me who runs the AFL ?
  2. If it means that the teams can be easily distinguished I am in favour of the clash guernseys. Other sports have had them for donkey's years. Collingwood, Essendon etc need to be pulled into line big time on this simple issue
  3. Completely understandable WJ but it does raise the problem as I mentioned earlier that it is hard for the players to obtain/maintain AFL standard if the VFL team lacks structure. Nothing can be done about it other than to hope next year is better from an injury viewpoint. Re the players that replaced the drafted players I would be interested to know how does the salary cap work for an aligned club and are we considered a"good club" among the other aligned clubs from a destination viewpoint. PS: On the other hand during the 70's and 80's when we never made finals I can remember some good reserves teams so perhaps it is just cyclical. (Remember Keogh.. won the medal for the reserves comp twice !!)
  4. The moment I saw it memories of Jimmy Styne's accidental hit of an umpire came back. There is a positive duty to avoid the umpire.... hit him/her for any reason and you are in trouble. I'll take the fine... if I recall Jimmy was rubbed out
  5. That's almost the only positive I have heard. Have they published an official attendance figure
  6. interesting as it is marketed as favoured by soccer players A lot of work being done on the long term impact of heading the ball in soccer. The impact has been reduced over the years because the balls are now lighter and not water logged but it is still a concern. Not sure that it is designed for AFL type bumps but I'm certainly no expert.
  7. Yes but in certain parts of Adelaide that is the National Anthem !!
  8. If I were in Shanghai I'd be looking for the early plane home. What a one sided game
  9. 45 touches is a serious number of touches. Would like to see some analysis and critique but it definitely gets my attention.
  10. Thought Gold Coast would put up a better performance. Have watched it for a few minutes on and off ... lucky they shipped in the Port 5000. Could be hard to get them to go again next year perhaps. Most interesting thing to me is the advertising hoardings. Haven't noticed much dragon dancing on the terraces. Apparently AFL have only backed it for one year ..... interesting times ahead
  11. I usually listen without headphones but I listened to the replay of last night's game with a pair of good head phones. The sound and picture were slightly out of synch, You could hear the umpires whistle signalling the mark when the ball was mid air. Could also hear the bottles being dumped in the trash near the commentary box !!
  12. Casey are starting to remind me of Collingwood in the VFL from around 10 years ago. They would top up the team from the local league. I appreciate that the problem is mainly driven by injuries at the MFC level. The concern is that it does not assist in the development of future KPP's at all if they are playing in teams that possibly lack structure. Hopefully it improves.
  13. Does anyone else find it incongruous if not in bad taste that the AFL has not objected to the Ben Johnson ad being aired during AFL matches. Seems to make a mockery of what already is a mockery of a policy on drugs !
  14. Yeah I thought the Toiges had pinched it .... but a goal on the siren gives the game to the men in Purple !!
  15. This will go a long way to putting some semblance of success back into the season. We need to beat a few more of the power houses and moreover the fringe players need to put in regularly. In fact one needs a purple patch.. (perhaps Wagner) We have a long way to go before we demand the respect of the general football world.
  16. no score for thirty mins except for a rushed behind that doesn;t win too many matches Luckily the other side are missing the goals or this game would be over
  17. AFL website refusing to load here .... may be a sign of good things to come ??
  18. Not much love for GWS around here but there is nothing better than a last minute victory over the Pies Go Orange Men !!!! PS: Amazing Boyd traded to the Bulldogs for 1 million plus a year but they still have Lobb, Cameron and Patton
  19. GWS two players down (early concussions) so it could test them
  20. the irony is that the pollution reading in Melbourne this week is higher than Shanghai (cold and no winds = lots of microns apparently)
  21. could it get worse !! "SHANGHAI will host the Gold Coast-Port Adelaide game with no beer. There will be an alcohol ban for general admission fans at Jiangwan Stadium during Sunday's historic match between the Suns and Port. While alcohol will be served in the corporate suites, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the Chinese had instituted the booze ban." http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-13/water-will-be-just-fine-china-booze-ban-confirmed
  22. Weitering is their new marquee player. Can play back and forward. He isn't going anywhere unless you want to make an offer around 1.5M per year if not more
  23. just remember the role of the MFC for years has been to play bad teams into form. Hawthorn will take a while to die.... a bit like North
  24. the big change is that the game at AFL level is no longer man on man in the air. It is played more in the open and at ground level. Strength is still an issue Of course at lower levels the game is different and you are right these kids may not be encouraged. Always thought that basketball when you get to around under 14's should be divided on a height basis. The smaller ones just fall away.
  25. Caleb Daniel's was drafted at pick 46 in 2014 and is presently 20 years of age. Last night he had 30 possessions including 15 in the last quarter. My question is why is he so good in a game that is dominated by six foot mid fielders. Moreover are there others like Caleb hidden in the lower ranks that are worth seeking out.
