  1. It's a bit like the Salem discussion of a year or so back. Trade him now and what you get would be heavily discounted. I hope the problem is manageable over time and therefore I say ... no trade. But let's say Brisbane offered its second round pick (number 19 I assume) ... you would have to think about it.
  2. Great points makes you wonder how we would line up if Weed also started pressing for selection Pedo or T mac.... very difficult ... then again the form of O mac is not a given based on 1.5 good games
  3. a great point in that it makes him easy to spot on the field. I must confess to seeing double when Wagner and Hunt were playing together
  4. and that is the point A quick easily accessed game that families and younger ones will flock to see if Big bash and AFLW is anything to go by. The AFL game day attendance product is increasingly becoming a product for rusted on supporters and some of their kids. (As a percentage of the population attendances are way down on the attendance in say the sixties... understandable given the alternatives available for entertainment. On the other hand the TV audience is not too bad.)
  5. just going on what I have seen at the last two Casey matches I attended Perhaps he was lost in the fog of the outer wing last week
  6. mmmmmmmm few of us picked Stretch as the in despite all of us hoping he made it back Goes to show that its not just numbers of possessions at VFL level that is the determinant. Stretch has done okay at VFL level but he hasn't set the world alight. Good luck Billy See the Weed, Wagner and Ben Ken have been named as emergencies so I assume they wont be playing against Box Hill on Saturday afternoon
  7. Not a lot of must watch games this weekend. I suppose the big one is Swans v Bombers on Friday night. A few other 50/50 games in Bulldogs v North and Saints v Suns that will probably end the losers finals chances. Collingwood v Port could be interesting as well.
  8. 2004 again but it is coming a little earlier in the season... need to win one of the next two games to stay in the hunt ....
  9. On the sharing of 11.2% of club unbudgeted revenue is that pooled between all clubs and then distributed back to the players irrespective of which club they play for. I suspect it has to be done that way otherwise players at the bigger clubs will benefit disproportionately,
  10. perhaps an FA cup format where smaller suburban clubs can pay into the pot and then move along the chain. Cannot see it being worth big money to the winner unless a TV station buys the rights. If that is Foxtel it will have minimum exposure. Perhaps it could be the birth of a pay to view internet streaming product
  11. would prefer to see it at VFL level with perhaps some marquee players from AFL The Big Bash has been a wonderful thing for State level cricketers from both a monetary and exposure perspective
  12. What odds the Socceroos against Cameroon tomorrow some local colour from St Petersburg would be fantastic
  13. You are right there but then again they play Trenners off the half back line. I think they play JKH in the mid field so he can find the ball... something he does not do at AFL level Wonderful to see the passionate discussions given that they are based on optimism rather than the usual ......
  14. not really being emotional if it is a choice between JKH and JT in place of Jones I would go for JT. JKH has had several chances and has failed miserably. JT is worth a go. His form at VFL level all year has been very sound and sometimes excellent as evidenced by the frequency with which he appears int he best players. Somehow I think it will be just Gawn for Jones or JKH and Gawn for Jones and ??. Base this on Goodwin's belief in his game plan which I suspect does not favour JT.
  15. Very much agree I would expect him to play on ball for no more than 50% and to spend around 30% on the bench with the rest up forward. If Spencer were going well in the AFL team Gawn would have had a half game hit out at Casey. It is not disrespect for Gawn it is simply recognition of the demands placed on a ruckman.
  16. Time for a poll so the collective wisdom of Demonland can be brought to bear on this conundrum. Would anyone care to pose the four alternatives ... my brain is starting to hurt
  17. Bring Back Jack if it fits with team balance he is certainly in line for a recall The real question is as many have said.,, what is the right balance of talls inside mids etc Good Luck Jack
  18. 5000 built in factors .... wow that is some list of variables with differing weighting on each data point Are there places that sell the various data points as I assume they vary weekly not to mention with each team. The combinations make the mind boggle but I suppose that is what a good quant is all about
  19. Thanks Drunkn.... have checked the weather forecast and it is top of 13, showers and medium winds Perfect day for old fashioned footy
  20. Mid winter Friday night during school holidays against an interstate team..... 37K would be a very good crowd and anything approaching 45K would be a great crowd.
  21. Mid field rotations are such a big thing I cannot see how you can replace a key midfielder with a ruckman. It's chalk and cheese. Salem moving full time into the midfield seriously reduces our drive from the back line. Moreover he is an outside mid so who plays Jones' role as the inside mid. At Casey JKH plays largely on the inside so perhaps. Same perhaps goes for Jack T. And then if you bring a mid in for Jones we are back to the original question namely who goes out for Gawn. Ah.. such conundrums.
  22. It'll be the Darwin game that kills us and we brought that on ourselves. Good to see Port lining up the suckers to sell their home game for the China fling next year. See that the AFL revisionists are now calling it a success save for the bad game by the Suns.
  23. So first we had Jones will be ok. Then out for 2 weeks followed by 3-4 weeks and now we have the dreaded 4-6. Anybody predicting the season ??
  24. we asked for QB and the Friday night game so you can't really complain Ideally the Friday night game would be another time but as you can see from our opposition (interstate team) and time of year (dead winter) we were not top of the pile.
  25. I think you may be right. One can dream of a Wanganeen or a Burgoyne ... half as good as them and we have a real player
