  1. If Hogan doesn't play it is time to play the Weed. While not setting the world on fire he has been around about and with decent delivery he might fire. We have to get a four or five goal game out of a player and I just cannot see it coming from the present players notwithstanding Tom Mc's heroics against West Coast. Weed has been playing up the ground and can also provide the link mark which is so important in today's football. Then again I just noticed that the forecast for Sunday is possible showers ... so who knows This season is becoming so depressing so quickly. Go dees
  2. Must say ... the exact same thought struck me ... straight out of a Renaissance painting
  3. If Weed had a good game against Port then there might be a chance but he had about 4 kicks in the VFL with two marks. Sure delivery was not stellar but he needs time.
  4. why is it dumb... EPL teams do it all the time It is part of list management. If it makes sense from a physiological viewpoint let's do it
  5. Big call but I see where you are coming from. Assuming (big assumption) that we beat Carlton I agree. If not we need to snag a win against one of GWS, Port or Adelaide and therefore the Darwin game becomes more important. #let's dump Darwin
  6. Perhaps we could hope for a formula 1 type penalty: The FIA will take no further action against Sebastian Vettel after investigating the incident in which he drove into Lewis Hamilton at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver appeared at a meeting on Monday and offered a full apology for his actions, which was accepted by the FIA, alongside a commitment from the Ferrari driver to undertake educational activities across a variety of racing championships over the next 12 months. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2017/jul/03/sebastian-vettel-lewis-hamilton-f1
  7. sounds good .. let's hope it is with our new found optimism I'm sick of losing !!
  8. I can understand the one week at a time line but if we can get beyond Carlton the weeks look brighter. Can feel the September grass growing ... August .... named after the great Augustus... first emperor of Rome and a very smart cookie ... will be our month !!
  9. As I just posted on another thread....Time for Melksham to show why we traded for him as well. Must be something there !!
  10. Must be some upside in Melksham I would have thought. Time for him to show his wares perhaps
  11. In the first 8 games we won all of them but in the main it was by a few points. Round 9 we were thrashed by the Saints and life has not been the same since. Essendon beat us in Round 10 Ended up 7th at season end with ten wins Essendon finished 4th but went on to win the Premiership https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1965_VFL_season Interesting trivia: In Round 6, Essendon forward Geoff Gosper was the first VFL player to play with a mouthguard.
  12. why couldn't it be 3-4 rather than the dreaded 4-6 (aka the Black Death)
  13. probably should not have happened in the sense that for its day it was not that far outside the pale. The media did not know how to deal with it as suddenly because it was a criminal case there could be no comment.Similarly when it came before the courts it was a bit of a fizzer in the sense that if I recall correctly he got a good behaviour bond. The article you have linked to is fascinating as it suggests some reasons why the charges were laid. The most "entertaining one I can remember" is when a reserves player jumped the fence at South Melbourne Oval and hit a spectator. In those days the reserves match of the day was televised and the seniors was available only on replay. Banned for a number of years if I recall was the punishment but no police charges,
  14. not quite Christmas yet but I like the positive vibe .... we definitely need some
  15. Bit surprised Nahas didn't make Ports list of best players. Played a Garlett like role really well. Hard to judge players at VFL level. You are looking for them to play well in their role. Performance may or may not be enhanced by the players around them so you need to look beyond team performance and drill down on individual play. In the case of Weideman that is perhaps easier than others. While he didn't get amongst it that much on Saturday he played much better than he did at Coburg a few weeks back. The forward delivery was atrocious but on tow occasions where he was sought out he took strong marks. Perhaps he got lead up the ground too easily and needs to learn the running patterns. Others such as JKH its harder. he got a lot of ball but you need to look at the tape carefully to see if it was his handpass or the recipient that caused the ball to go nowhere (which it continually did on Saturday.) I would hate to have to put together a VFL list with all the competing priorities. In a way it is easier for the stand alones but of course they don't get the benefit of the AFL talent. In an ideal world you would have a team of say 12 very solid VFL players, four -eight players on the list vying for AFL selection and then your AFL project players. Sounds easy but I suspect it is an almost impossible job.
  16. Great Post ... so beat Carlton and life is good for the moment. FWIIW I would have Watts and Tyson on a plane to Darwin now so they can do rehab and acclimatize in advance of the rest of the team. Probably don't have the budget but it is the smart move. I understand why you have put Brayshaw in but it may just be that bridge too far for this season. (Like the sentiment though). Of course the bogey man is "more injuries."
  17. as they say ... don't mention the war .... but week after this we have our famous Darwin expedition. Great time to totally stuff up our players for a few dollars. Better clubs would not expose themselves to the risk. The only good thing is that the next game is against Port which is probably a loss anyway before the following must win against North. #Time to Ditch Darwin
  18. Fascinating media study this one Club comes out with an apology... player apologizes yet media calls for a "hanging." We berated (correctly) Essendon for never apologising and the bulk of the media eulogises the players and the team. Something badly amiss here.
  19. Not sure why all the doom and gloom. 1. Beat Carlton ... ok we have injuries but with Hogan and Garlett back and a strong game plan that should be doable. The key here is the game plan. Carlton have shown they know how to shut teams down (even the Giants fell prey to their counter punch style)... up to the coaching staff to work up a plan to suit and for the players to execute. 2. Then we have Adelaide and Port.. win one and its a bonus 3. Next game ... four weeks time is against North .... should have at least a few more players back by then and is a must win. 4. Giants the following week .... who knows but I'll live with a loss. 5. Okay then comes the run home (Round 20) for which all players should be back. Saints, Lions and Collingwood. If we cannot win those three we don;t deserve to play finals. So the key is beat... Carlton and North ... have a good run home and that's 13 wins. Win an extra against any of the three better teams and who knows. Remember Richmond play St Kilda twice so they have two double points games. And from our last five we have lost once to the Swans which love them or hate them are the best team going around at present.
  20. Richmond play St Kilda next week so we win either way
  21. Just reading bomberblitz to cheer me up. Usual comments but this one got me chuckling as it also so much applies to the MFC: "Pity the VFL was televised this week. I'd like to pretend there were options in the twos. "
  22. noticed that last year. As you say it allows the kicker to run on easily past the mark and presumably kick past the zone. No one seems to complain too much about it as I suppose it gives the non possession team an extra player in the zone. Certainly does not feel in the spirit of the game.
  23. Hawthorn V Collingwood at the MCG most years this would be a 70K crowd.... wonder what it will be today My guess is 43k which is still a decent crowd considering where these two teams are at
  24. was at Port oval today the media sniffed a story as I was going in the Channel 7 guys were trying to get entry The young man on the gate said .... not a televised game and no booking... so it wasn't normal They came in have no idea of what happened afterwards
  25. a draw not sure what I am but it does not feel good.... but then again I am not upset
