POSTGAME: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
Lewis is a good example of a known factor in the salary cap spreadsheet. His salary will be well and truly marked for elsewhere. Where it becomes difficult is dealing with the outliers which Frost could become. Brayshaw was a perfect example of such a player who went from a struggling possible trade/delist to a match winner in the space of 10-15 games and quite properly commanded a large but comparatively unexpected rise. Tom Mac Donald was not too dissimilar. That is what I meant by saying we are not having much luck with our contract renewal windows. Anyway it's a good problem to have.

Fair enough.. averages are skewed by the highs and lows whereas a median is the figure around which the greatest number of players are based. The best figure would probably be median of players in the same game range. I take the salary cap stories with a grain of salt. Every club has to pay a very high percentage of the salary cap so there is never that much room. It's more about front and back loading. In theory we should have been front loading the plus 25 years of age players in anticipation of needing room to pay the emerging stars.. which please please we have. My comment re Garlett was that if unplanned money needs to be found that is a source. The money men would have factored in a reasonable renewal salary for Jeffy. The other unknown in the salary cap component is where Jones fits in for 2020.

Has to be a worry... other than Melksham that is arguably our best forward set up. Imagine if we had our usual inaccuracy. Hopefully we see more structure next week. Here's an example of unstructured play.. Gawn has a shot for goal and decides to put it fifteen metres out. Pack flies and knocks it to the 25 metre line where Docker player grabs it and they're off. Surely Gawn has a pre determined signal to team mates telling them what he is going to do and the crumbers know where they should run to??

Coburg v Casey Demons - Round 12
Hope this fog lifts for the early start. Casey radio showing coverage of the VFL game between Werribee and Williamstown... strange..

CHANGES: Rd 15 vs Brisbane
May as well continue with Petty and see if he can make it. His trajectory certainly flattened after his call up last year. Worth noting that Baker had not been starring at vfl level but is now showing early promise at AFL level.

My 3 word player analysis V Fremantle
Thought Hunt had a reasonable.not great game... pressured well and was one of few forwards who continually presented. The forward structure was woeful. Those two second quarter goals were almost painful to watch.

I see according to the AFL stats we almost broke even on centre clearances. Strange because I can barely remember one good clearance. I raise this because we have the best or second best ruckman and Oliver who is at the top of the clearance specialists. What I saw was a lot of fumbles and good wide clearances by Freo that were then well defended by our Defence who no doubt won us the game. Great win and hopefully a good follow up next week against the Lions... Could Preuss get a game..probably not

Very enjoyable game. As I said during the game thread because of our season it had no stress for me but when we hit the front by eight odd points i I must confess to some nervousness. Pleasant day at the mcg. Thought May had a good game. And boy those great overhead marks in the last few minutes. Looking forward to seeing a lot of smiling faces at Casey game tomorrow at Coburg

Has the AFL Overstepped its Remit?
Not quite on topic but a very good read: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/22/whats-behind-the-afls-sudden-insistence-that-the-game-has-indigenous-beginnings "In 1998 the AFL dedicated a monument to Wills at Moyston, close to where he lived as a child. It reads, “While playing as a child with Aboriginal children in this area he developed a game which he later utilised in the formation of Australian Football.” Yet as recently as 2017, presented with new documentary evidence by historian Jenny Hocking that Marn Grook was played where Wills was raised (this was previously said by Hibbins and others to be most unlikely) the AFL said, “The debate is really one between historians as to what Wills was exposed to.”

Expecting not much more than we delivered against GWS but will be happy if wrong. The three outs have certainly deflated the interest in this match. Why would anyone boo Hogan... infantile to say the least for those who do. Crowd wise if we crack 20k we will do well.. certainly won't have to worry about having less than half a section to myself in the AFL members.

ANB Close to Re-Signing?
we have Maynard, Stretch, ANB and JKH all coming up for renewal. Cannot delist them all.. which do you keep and more particularly how long an extension do you offer. As earlier posted re the Kent situation another club may offer them a longer term.

Round 14 Non MFC Games

Demons Grand Plan for Yarra Park Training HQ
Interesting that you raise the Bentleigh club in a thread where many have lamented the absence of a social club. I have little knowledge of the place but without pokies would it have survived and was it ever used as a social club?

PREGAME: Rd 14 vs Fremantle
Looking at the official injury report Garlett may be done for the season. Dislocated shoulder .. apparently worse than his pre season injury. “Jeffy injured that shoulder in a tackling drill. It was the shoulder he dislocated up in Shepparton against Richmond in the JLT game. He just had an incident at training where he dislocated it again and it’s probably worse than the first time. He’s going to see a surgeon on Monday – not necessarily to have surgery but just to get some advice. We’ve got to wait until we get some thoughts from the surgeon before we know a timeframe.”
