Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
There's two issues here. One is the days of the week on which games are played and the other is the dynamic fixture. I'm now firmly a fan of Thursday night football on TV. I would like the game to be finished by around 10pm which means a 7:20pm start and perhaps a shorter half time break. Same goes for Sunday night but I must admit it has to be a good game to get me to watch as my usual limit is 3-4 games. I could like a game on Monday night but it would need to be at least medium level interest. Tuesday and Wednesday would be overkill. As to the dynamic nature of the fixture it will almost certainly not favour the MFC in that unlike say Collingwood who will get TV exposure because they are Collingwood we will also need demonstrated success. It is also likely to cost us significantly in the possible loss of our two blockbusters. Finally, the fixture was a little easier with only 17 games in 2020. If you have 22 when do you know which teams you will play twice?

Another Footy Frenzy for 2021
Well we all know how the MFC will come out of this. Goodwin hasn't managed a winning first half of the season yet.

Another Season for Mitch Brown
Would have preferred to spend the spot on Lewis Jetta for a year.

Lewis Jetta delisted by the Eagles
Would have preferred him to Mitch Brown

More Rules Changes in 2021
Great opinion article https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/will-a-wall-really-make-afl-great-again-20201119-p56g1p.html The Make AFL Great Again cap-wearers at league headquarters are quietly building a wall. These MAGA devotees want to stop the horde of players from one end of the ground rushing down and setting up camp at the other end. They want things back the way they used to be, when the game was great. The wall, or the AFL's version of it – zones – has to be the answer...... But will a wall make the AFL great again? Maybe. But it's coaches who need to be the ones wearing the red caps, not the AFL. Coaches need to be brave enough to challenge the orthodoxy, where it is a heresy to call yourself anything other than a "defence-first" team. The most successful teams each year are always top-four for defence, so rivals see defensiveness as a path to success. But invariably, the best teams are also top-four for attack. This point tends to get overlooked. Coaches need to be encouraged to change their mindset. They need to be rewarded for attacking play – an extra point for scoring more than 100 points in a game perhaps? – not just punished if they rush their players on and off the ground. They can make the game great again. And it won't be by building a wall.

It'll be like the old 15 metre penalty which Hawthorn happily took to slow the game down. Such an easy area to be gamed in a tight last quarter.

docked rotations.... what a weak penalty... the old wet lettuce leaf springs to mind I can see that working well in a close last quarter

Punt Road redevelopment
you would think so given that the black and white stand that surrounds the outer at Vic Park is heritage listed.

2020 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever
why not. If he has a good 2021/2022 he'll only be 26 and at his prime value. He owes us nothing.

2020 Player Reviews: #11 Max Gawn
Being an AA ruckman is a great achievement but in reality how many players is he competing with...6-8 I suspect at most. A wonderful team player but we have not been able to leverage his dominance and many teams now have strong plans to negate him. The future ruckman if there is such a thing is the likes of Nicnat and Luke Jackson save that the position is perhaps too damaging to risk elite talent.

So the ball is down one end and as usual 36 players in that half. The ball goes out in the back pocket so we wait while 6 players scurry back to the fifty metre zone at the other end. What happens if one player from both sides fail to make it back. Quick throw ins could be quite comical not to mention kick ins. Actually I like it but not sure how it will play out in practice.

Jackson Extends Until 2022
he's a draftee on base money. Chalk and cheese The standard extension for any half decent draftee is two further years. 4 years for T Mac was fine and we got stung. Five years for Viney ???

Another Season for Mitch Brown
Would have preferred them to take a chance on another mature recruit for another position. (goal scoring crumber or even a ruckman comes to mind) For the reasons given by BBP it doesn't seem a smart move

Punt Road redevelopment
Knocking down the historic Jack Dyer stand and replacing it with a characterless brick and glass block....not happy

Jackson Extends Until 2022
The first two year contract price for draftees is at a mandated base rate. Does anyone know if you extend for say two years can the initial second year salary be increased ? Thanks

Jackson Extends Until 2022
Agree with your point on the general economy but the AFL media money could well come under pressure. Hard to see much growth in physical attendance which could bring pressure on admission charges (under the guise of upselling)

Jackson Extends Until 2022
The norm for recruits is a two year extension on their opening two years. One year extension is definitely an oddity. Money wise for the club it will cost more as well if he is successful. Sure you can spin it on so many grounds but it remains an outlier.

2020 Player Reviews: #8 Jake Lever
Certainly not worth two first rounders and probably not worth the money he's paid. To me his most disappointing aspect is that we don't seem to get much quick rebound out of his play. His kicking style appears to be more of the up and under rather than the bullet like pass to release a player. A decent contributor in 2020 but definitely not the wunderkind many thought we were buying.

Punt Road redevelopment
Containers are the new architectural wonders. You could even change the stacking from time to time to reflect which player is doing well.Would give a new meaning to "top dog". Surprised that Richmond are pumping more money into Punt Road. It's a small landlocked oval with a concourse that is already packed with a motley collection of buildings.I suspect they are going to extend into their car park area. As to us I am resigned to an underwhelming outcome. We'll get Gosch's paddock (non exclusive) with admin and gym in a nearby carpark. Port Melbourne are ripe for a deal on a sharing basis. Would make a lot more sense.

2020 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw
Given we kept Viney I'm ready for a Brayshaw trade. Something has to give in that midfield before it functions correctly. Gus will demand very good money at the end of his contract (2022) and I just think it's better spent elsewhere. A very good outside mid is what we are screaming out for.

2020 Player Reviews: #9 Charlie Spargo
In a successful team Charlie has the ability to be a really damaging forward link player who can score a goal. In our mediocre performances which are far too often he has little impact. Hoping Spartacus has a good year in 2021. His kicking distance seemed to improve in 2020. I can recall earlier years where he couldn't make the distance from 40 metres out.
