  1. Wines bringing back Toumpas memories
  2. I'm in the anywhere but Queensland camp. Couldn't stand the TV crossing to Auntie Anna etc FWIW my vote is for the Alice with an exclusively indigenous crowd. In this difficult year it might just send the right message.
  3. Has the potential to divide clubs as players naturally defend partners and family. Not saying you are not right..but
  4. did a search and could not come up with much except that he was doing light training back in early March. His wikipedia entry is of almost biblical proportions compared to most. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Watts_(footballer)
  5. thinking much the same
  6. There was reference in the Guardian to this issue today. Apparently Gil has read the riot act to the WAGS. Something also about wanting to bring a puppy from Melbourne. Sooner this season ends the better for everyone PS Fining a club for the actions of a player's partner.... wow that's challenging on so many levels
  7. Will be interesting to see how long all three are on the ground together. I think they may also be looking to manage Gawn through the next few weeks.
  8. Port's board has always been a good read. Their version of MFCSS is early season success followed by mid to late season fade out. Liked this summary. Had not realised that Jack W was available.
  9. Very good first quarter from Richmond. Hardwick's coaching with slow play and two talls deep forward working well. Bontompelli having little influence so far.
  10. Travel both ways for NRL teams between Sydney and Queensland will be permitted. Not sure what it means for AFL. NRL boss Peter V’landys insists NSW’s COVID-19 contact tracing means NRL players can stay in the state long term after receiving confirmation they can continue flying into Queensland. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday announced the state would close its borders to all residents of greater Sydney on Saturday from 1:00am. However, the NRL received confirmation on Wednesday evening it would remain exempt from the changes. The Guardian
  11. It's a shared charter with North so most likely out of Brisbane I suspect it's not cost neutral as we would still have to run the Qld hub and as mentioned the charter jet has to fly North over. Extremely disappointing outcome
  12. This is North making sure it's a level playing field. Just shows that our management is asleep at the wheel
  13. There's a guy who has been doing motor bike tours through Thailand including Koh Samui over the last few months. Very watchable. I'll PM you the link if you would like. The railways of Thailand are quite extensive and great value. Have done a few car trips from Malaysia into Thailand and really love it when you get off the highways. Crossing borders with a car in Asia is lots of paperwork though. As you say... next year will be different !!!
  14. I'd be very surprised if it's wrong by much other than the degree of front and back loading. Football clubs leak and it is the job of managers and journalists etc to know these things. Given the salary cap and the need to maintain a reasonable degree of pay relativity it's not an impossible exercise by any means. Would be very interested to know the advantage salary wise that the power clubs get from player loyalty (the desire to be at a successful club with a real premiership chance.)My guess is that it could be anywhere between 5 and 10%. There is also the advantage that the Eagles have with WA players wanting to play locally. MFCSS warns me that we could be training Nic Nats replacement.
  15. If Sydney is a hotspot with under 20 cases Melbourne will never get off the list. ?
  16. Given that they are varying the attendance limits there is no reason other than money save for the argument that they are trying to prevent event fatigue leading to staff and public apathy towards the various social distancing rules. If that is correct they should lock down the stadium and have say two crowd events (one at each venue) each week. Unfortunately this virus has a long way to run (six months more plus). Where I am there has not been a case for three plus months but the government just mandated masks when outdoors for everything. Masks aren't pleasant in 30 plus degrees with high humidity.Haven't quite gone with the local trend of wearing them in the car. Stay safe SWYL... perhaps enjoy some youtube travel shows.I find it quite soothing.
  17. measuring from 2017 to now would you not agree that three teams Port, Collingwood, Brisbane St Kilda and possibly the Suns are now in front of us when in 2017 they were behind us. Sure improvement is not linear but we aren't exactly in the mix. Eagles and a full strength Richmond are way in front and the Bulldogs are at least marginally better. We are on par with Essendon Carlton and Geelong and probably better than Hawthorn Freo and North not to mention Adelaide. By my reckoning that puts us 11th at best. Of course if you use 2019 as your measurement base it's hard to have anyone pass the 17th ranked team.
  18. Payment of wives during the early 80's was not uncommon. It was done primarily for tax reasons and done under the guise of laundry and secretarial services etc. It was only the major players as the rest were paid a pittance. There was a big ATO audit done around 1983. Unsubstantiated rumours that certain football powerbrokers threatened to close down football if the ATO didn't back off.
  19. I suspect the break even for a smaller stadium is around 15-20k in normal times. It would be impossible now. Understandably they are trying to limit their losses. That's why the AFL is desperate to fill all its exhibition deals in NT, Tassie Cairns etc
  20. Perhaps like many I had forgot about this game. Seems to be eminently forgettable as a spectacle Bit like this season
  21. That was probably the best 22 we could put out. AVB v Jones is debatable. Sure it can be tweaked but there's no must haves on the sidelines. A pity we have Port next week but at least they are the ones doing (I presume) the one day travel stint. Happy to leave this one to the selectors as we have such little insight into how they are going. On Jetta one should remember that his form on return in 2019 was not great so perhaps we are seeing the end. Those calling for Tomlinson his finals form last year was not great either.
  22. Lose to Port and we need to go 7-2 or scrape in at 6-3 maybe
  23. Last Chance Saloon It's where you bring your best guns. Not sure we can put out a much better side. I suspect we will have plenty of time to experiment for the rest of the season. worth a thought if the weather suits.
