  1. It'll be like the old 15 metre penalty which Hawthorn happily took to slow the game down. Such an easy area to be gamed in a tight last quarter.
  2. docked rotations.... what a weak penalty... the old wet lettuce leaf springs to mind I can see that working well in a close last quarter
  3. you would think so given that the black and white stand that surrounds the outer at Vic Park is heritage listed.
  4. why not. If he has a good 2021/2022 he'll only be 26 and at his prime value. He owes us nothing.
  5. Being an AA ruckman is a great achievement but in reality how many players is he competing with...6-8 I suspect at most. A wonderful team player but we have not been able to leverage his dominance and many teams now have strong plans to negate him. The future ruckman if there is such a thing is the likes of Nicnat and Luke Jackson save that the position is perhaps too damaging to risk elite talent.
  6. So the ball is down one end and as usual 36 players in that half. The ball goes out in the back pocket so we wait while 6 players scurry back to the fifty metre zone at the other end. What happens if one player from both sides fail to make it back. Quick throw ins could be quite comical not to mention kick ins. Actually I like it but not sure how it will play out in practice.
  7. he's a draftee on base money. Chalk and cheese The standard extension for any half decent draftee is two further years. 4 years for T Mac was fine and we got stung. Five years for Viney ???
  8. Would have preferred them to take a chance on another mature recruit for another position. (goal scoring crumber or even a ruckman comes to mind) For the reasons given by BBP it doesn't seem a smart move
  9. Knocking down the historic Jack Dyer stand and replacing it with a characterless brick and glass block....not happy
  10. The first two year contract price for draftees is at a mandated base rate. Does anyone know if you extend for say two years can the initial second year salary be increased ? Thanks
  11. Agree with your point on the general economy but the AFL media money could well come under pressure. Hard to see much growth in physical attendance which could bring pressure on admission charges (under the guise of upselling)
  12. The norm for recruits is a two year extension on their opening two years. One year extension is definitely an oddity. Money wise for the club it will cost more as well if he is successful. Sure you can spin it on so many grounds but it remains an outlier.
  13. Certainly not worth two first rounders and probably not worth the money he's paid. To me his most disappointing aspect is that we don't seem to get much quick rebound out of his play. His kicking style appears to be more of the up and under rather than the bullet like pass to release a player. A decent contributor in 2020 but definitely not the wunderkind many thought we were buying.
  14. Containers are the new architectural wonders. You could even change the stacking from time to time to reflect which player is doing well.Would give a new meaning to "top dog". Surprised that Richmond are pumping more money into Punt Road. It's a small landlocked oval with a concourse that is already packed with a motley collection of buildings.I suspect they are going to extend into their car park area. As to us I am resigned to an underwhelming outcome. We'll get Gosch's paddock (non exclusive) with admin and gym in a nearby carpark. Port Melbourne are ripe for a deal on a sharing basis. Would make a lot more sense.
  15. Given we kept Viney I'm ready for a Brayshaw trade. Something has to give in that midfield before it functions correctly. Gus will demand very good money at the end of his contract (2022) and I just think it's better spent elsewhere. A very good outside mid is what we are screaming out for.
  16. In a successful team Charlie has the ability to be a really damaging forward link player who can score a goal. In our mediocre performances which are far too often he has little impact. Hoping Spartacus has a good year in 2021. His kicking distance seemed to improve in 2020. I can recall earlier years where he couldn't make the distance from 40 metres out.
  17. 6 foot flanker please
  18. The 2018 draftees haven't exactly excelled. Sure there have been injuries etc but... 2021 will be their third year. You would hope one of them at least can cement a spot Tom Sparrow, James Jordon, Aaron Nietschke, Toby Bedford and Marty Hore
  19. You could do that. It really doesn't matter where the two players are taken from as they are only in that position for a few seconds while the ball is being bounced in the centre. The real benefit is that it makes zoning etc just that little bit harder. Also it is not a fundamental rule change.
  20. given that most positions are irrelevant in general play the question relates to post goal centre bounce. You would remove the wing as removing say the half forwards would only cause confusion as they are at opposite ends of the ground for the respective teams. You could also consider the centre and one wingman if you wanted to minimize congestion at a centre bounce. Two onballers might be too much. VFA had no wingmen for many years
  21. Given the cost of VFL/ seconds comp that is the obvious place to try some more drastic changes. Team of 20 with say 40 interchange. Six games per year to be played with 16 on the field.
  22. Excellent article in today's Age about Will Pucovski's development from a young age Good luck to him but reading these stories always me think of Graeme Hick. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/the-net-session-that-stamped-12-year-old-will-pucovski-as-a-future-star-20201110-p56d93.html By the time the 1986 season was out, the possibility of Hick's playing at Test level was being taken seriously, and the debate was shifting from whether he would play international cricket to which country he would represent. At the time, Zimbabwe seemed a long way from Test status, so he set himself instead to fulfil the residency requirements for England qualification, and despite an offer of a four-year qualification period from New Zealand he opted to take the longer path of a seven-year wait to play for his newly adopted home. By the time he became eligible, public interest in his seeming destiny as a great batsman for country as well as county was intense; David Lloyd was later to write that he doubted "any cricketer [had] ever come into the international game burdened by such impossible expectations".[32] Hick's Worcestershire teammate Graham Dilley had been in no doubt that he would succeed, perhaps ironically given what was to follow writing that Hick exerted "psychological pressure on the bowlers, like Viv Richards or Javed Miandad."[33] Hick's batting performance in Test matches Hick made his first appearances as an England batsman in a three-match One Day International series against West Indies, the first being played at Edgbaston on 23 May 1991. He made only 14 in a low-scoring game, but a few days later, in the third and final match of the series, he hit 86* and shared in a match-winning stand of 213 with Neil Fairbrother. The stage seemed set for Hick's Test debut at Headingley on 6 June, and Hick was even pictured on the cover of the Radio Times.[34] He was given a hero's reception by the crowd as he came out to bat, but a tortured 51 minutes later he was back in the pavilion having made only six, and he could do no better in the second innings. After further innings of 0, 43, 0, 19 and 1 he was dropped before the last match of the series. Although Worcestershire did win the Benson & Hedges Cup, in first-class cricket Hick finished with an average for the season of just 32.91, which remains his lowest in any English summer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graeme_Hick
  23. Other than Richmond and to a lesser extent West Coast you could make a case for any of those teams dropping from the 8. Port will benefit from two wins against Adelaide but will Brisbane split its wins with the Suns? Geelong's midfield are getting older. Can they go around again. Saints could easily do an MFC and drop to 17. Pies and Bulldogs...who knows MFC...not really seeing where the improvement on 2020 will come from. Our bottom 6-10 are very ordinary.
