  1. Saturday night is behind Friday night and arguably behind Thursday. Better than Sunday afternoon
  2. so I have only one ruck on my list knowing that I can get a backup from another club? Why reward bad planning Loaning out players in the EPL is completely different as the top 6 aren't really competing with the teams who are the beneficiaries of the loan
  3. the problem I see is time in possession. We need to be a lot more efficient with our conversion rate as I doubt Geelong will give us the time in possession that GWS etc allowed us.
  4. Interesting article in the Guardian today on County cricket in England using automatic cameras to stream matches free of charge. Would love to see these used in VFL and potentially in AFL for additional coverage. The technology is obviously rather good these days. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/apr/07/full-stream-ahead-county-cricket-rolls-out-digital-revolution-for-championship PS.. just noticed what I thought was a picture of a very fancy auto camera has a person out of frame ?
  5. there were some great comps. I was lucky enough to attend a match between Redcliffs and Mildura in the early 80's. Probably a crowd of around one thousand and vigourous supporting of both sides. And of course during the 70's the VFA's televised Sunday game was almost game of the week. Then slowly but surely the AFL sucked the money out of every comp and now they complain that they have to support grass roots footy. Sure it's progress but you have to wonder if it could be done better...
  6. it was always round 3 but this is effectively round 6. Unfortunately it is a reflection on how the senior coaches regard the VFL. I suspect they would be happy to keep it as practice matches.
  7. yep the straight down the ground kick with Gawn as the target to tap the ball to a running midfielder is an obvious play. It then challenges the oppo to set up deeper which prevents the zoned lock in tactic otherwise known as the wall. Only works if you have a strong pack marker such as Gawn or dare I say Tom Mac.
  8. Probably about right but given the need to sign Petracca and Oliver not to mention Luke Jackson will we have the money. It's going to be challenging with no increase in the salary cap for at least threee years
  9. wouldn't bet on it. At 25 years of age this is his "money contract."
  10. Agree... quite an aberration If we had a little more accuracy and they kicked say 7.5 the margin would have been 60+
  11. have they used the "are we seeing the two grand finalists" line yet
  12. very much agree Cats just that little better and of course a couple of goals in those last few minutes. Hawkins not afraid to use his body and risk a free when rucking in the forward line. Easily negated by a big leap and knock but the trouble is you can't be sure where the big tap will go to.
  13. no real VFL game until Sunday 18 April the same day we play the Hawks. BB back for Anzac Eve would be a fascinating gamble. The following weekend we play North in windy Hobart
  14. Thanks so around 3k more than our Freo match. It was Easter Sunday but in theory they have 20k more members than us and the crowd limit was 75% The crowd at Manuka was excellent given it has a non covid capacity of 13.5k
  15. now that is left field
  16. TMac is crucial over the next 3 weeks After that we have the luxury of considering BB and Weid
  17. anyone have the attendance figures for Blues v Freo yesterday thanks
  18. Like many I'm a no to Melksham until we see him perform consistently at VFL level. Showed nothing in 2020. Sure at his best h'es good for two goals a game but I think we have that aspect covered. Hibberd/Jetta is more a match up question which I will leave to those more knowledgeable on the Geelong structure I see our first "real" VFL game is Sunday April 18 at Box Hill. PS.. just noticed our first home Casey game is not until 8 May... so much for practice on an MCG size ground.
  19. not quite a gun but a solid contributor. I like his work under pressure. I think as you do we've found a good one.
  20. That has been the key... four contributors Early days but fingers crossed that Jordon can also become an automatic selection. Not sold on Hunt and the continued roles of Jones and Jetta will make for hard decisions.
  21. not so much this year but opposition coaches know we struggle with that tactic. The trick is to limit the rebound (which we are getting better at) and it will stop Geelong will undoubtedly crowd our forward line it but they will rebound slowly. Will be interesting tactically.
  22. What is Sparrow's role? Cannot say I noticed him at all. Not meant as a criticism. Jetta... it's an opponent issue. Geelong aren't particularly quick in the forward line so perhaps he survives by virtue of his smarts. TMac's form is still key to the next 3 weeks Thought Jones was solid last night
  23. Good win and very impressed by the contribution of some players who have had a question mark... Brayshaw, Hunt Fritsch Pickett was very good to say the least. He will probably get some close attention from Geelong next week. Would like to think that the coaching team has access to good footage of Oliver in the first half. He needs to get better at dealing with those situations or it will become a tactic against him. A win against Geelong may see me unscrewing the lid slightly. Interesting that because GWS kicked only 2 behinds we didn't get to use our kick out tactics which have much improved this year. Next Sunday's weather is 17 and fine. Perfect football weather. Go Dees
  24. 6.Pickett 5.Brayshaw 4.Langdon 3.Gawn 2.Hunt 1. Fritsch Apologies to Viney
