  1. For FTA and Kayo it's one of the few products they have left so expect to see more time specific games. I'm sure if they thought it would work they would show a late night game into the East starting at say 8pm Perth time.
  2. Had not noticed that Bowey was in last nights IC list so no room for Tholstrup as sub. Woey to sub... again
  3. A long and well researched article on the decreasing number of indigenous players at AFL level. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/falling-through-the-cracks-afl-zones-private-school-scholarships-in-spotlight-to-stop-drop-in-indigenous-numbers-20240514-p5jdlg.html An obvious starting point according to veteran AFL recruiters, Sydney’s Kinnear Beatson and Geelong’s Stephen Wells, is to understand the scale of the problem. “The AFL firstly has to try to find out why players are not playing in the numbers they were before, before they try to come up with answers,” Wells said. There are plenty of theories, with the list as long as Lewis Jetta’s bouncing run in the 2012 grand final. They include the depth of the overall talent pool, the effect of COVID-19 cutbacks, the lack of ownership and accountability for Indigenous talent pathways, and the impossible demands on poorly paid talent identification officials in state league clubs.
  4. Very hard round from the what is the best for MFC perspective. A Carlton and GWS win just about puts the top 6-8 teams within one game of each other given wins to Pies and Port
  5. The NT would have paid in part by purchasing memberships. This allows them to give out free tickets. How many is the secret
  6. Laurie is the 2024 version of Jordon and Bedford Hunter will be on the line to his manager as well is my guess
  7. Agree that the acclimatisation for a week or two before is a great idea but the player agreements and cost preclude such an approach normally. When Suns are poor (form wise) the issue is less obvious but when they are a 6-10 capable team the home ground advantage is massive Strangely enough having a Darwin based team with all teams playing in Darwin on a rotational basis would be a fairer outcome than the two week lottery presently practised. It does look like the stadium needs a lot of work and the ground surface looked like a cow paddock (obviously soaked with water)
  8. At game time it was 30 degrees. Humidity discomfort is a factor of heat. (Simply put the warmer it is the more moisture the air can hold) At 30 degrees the amount of air moisture represented by 64% is certainly not low for high performance sport
  9. Playing in Darwin is another level of discomfort for visiting players. If this two week schedule is to continue visiting teams need to be selected on some form of strict rotational basis. GCS have a good advantage in that Southern Qld in early May is still warm by comparison to Victoria. Then there is recovery time. Games on Thursday night followed by the next round on a Sunday for visiting teams should be the rule. The Darwin curse derailed the Bulldogs season last year as they lost to the Suns and then lost the following week. (Missed finals by one game) Sure you can say.... anyone, anywhere, anytime.. but Darwin is different Avoiding Darwin is now my only reason for supporting our Alice Springs game. I used to be a big fan but now I believe there are better ways to support the local community than token bread and circus shows
  10. You would think that Salem will play. If they wanted to give him a light run there's a Casey game on Saturday. He's not making the trip as an emergency. My guess on the final interchange is McAdam, Salem Brown and Woewodin with Tholstrup as sub
  11. Yep Fullarton and not Verrall Salem being listed is interesting. With Langdon out Hunter will be wondering why he has missed out
  12. Fullarton or Verrall in the squad... I'd prefer Verrall but I think Fullarton. I also think he won't make the final cut BBB and McAdam for game day
  13. With great respect... We Got this Will Dees by 42
  14. This one should have been fixed years ago.... All this rule has changed is the eagerness of players stepping out of the goal square during kick-ins, to secure cheap, junk possessions and distort the game’s statistical records.
  15. Last year I was watching Celtic in the Scottish FA Cup final. For the first half the commentary feed failed but the crowd noise came through. It was bliss
  16. Amazon Prime has the exclusive Australian rights to the upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup in USA. A different value proposition to AFL but it does demonstrate that the mega streamers will go into the Sports market. Sky Sports has the UK rights and Willow TV (a specialist cricket streamer) has the US rights. Disney has the non TV rights for India with Star TV holding the TV rights
  17. If the mega streamers come in they will try and buy rights to one game. Friday would be their preference or Thursday if Friday is not available. The issue is that Kayo would scream blue murder and threaten to substantially reduce its bid. Kayo (Foxtel) already pays the lions share of the rights money for a rather raw deal. Can't see it as the cost of providing a standalone broadcast and commentary team for one match for a six month period would make the deal highly unattractive. Then again Kayo could team up with the mega streamer delivering kayo a lower rights price for the gamble that the loss of one game to the mega streamer will not impact its overall subs. Frankly as WSW mentions I cannot see a mega streamer being interested in a one off deal in a small market. For them it just doesn't scale and would take up more management time than its worth (unless kayo presented them with a complete package wrapped in a nice bow.) Also need to remember that the mega streamers are hemorrhaging money and are not so ready to buy market share as they were a few years back.
  18. Thought he might be... Source?
  19. Agree As I said if I was the Bulldogs I would have traded JUH (to whom they are paying $1M) and got Weitering at $1.5M. They are failing in the backline big time but with a key pillar down back they would move up into the next bracket.
  20. Agree... this should be factored into the list selection and the annual plan for any player over 28. We need to think about doing the same for Viney and May for example If we can get these players through to 34/35 in top condition then list balance looks completely different. I'm starting to think that given injuries of around 5 players is the norm for most clubs our list sizes are perhaps too small by say 5 players.
  21. A bye would have been more sensible if this joke of a competition was better organised. Stupid fixture given that Lions AFL team are playing in Brisbane on Saturday night so they'll be keeping back players as well. Should be Brisbane v Richmond on Sunday morning
  22. I said 18-26 Salem aside. Depth is important. Turner and Hore are in best 24 Nothing much left at Casey these days JVR is a one week anomaly
  23. Should make it easier if anything assuming no massive community backlash. Our issue is oval exclusivity (even modified exclusivity). This proposal will include a degree of exclusivity so as a community softener it's good for us. Of course MFCSS suggests that we could become the AFL's sacrificial lamb.
  24. Sorry.. he's (Dusty) better off at GC Saints rumoured to have made a $1.5m per year offer for Weitering Should have been the Dogs after trading JUH https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/revealed-saints-massive-offer-to-make-weitering-one-of-the-richest-players-in-the-afl-20240514-p5jdj6.html
  25. Those injuries are piling up again. Sure, Salem aside they are on the 18-26 level of players but the tank is running thin when you add in Brayshaw and Smith as well
