Watched this bloke pretty closely live in the final game of the season v GWS Looked a bit slow to me - if we think we need a defensive mid/tagger ok I suppose but I would not want to be giving up anything more than a second-round pick at best

I watched the 2021 GF replay recently and if you don't think some of our more experienced players have dropped off in terms of speed/fitness then we must be living in a parallel universe

I'm not too fussed as to the reason our collective and in some cases individual fitness has dropped away. I'd like to address that asap so we can really start to compete with the better teams when it really matters.

Lindsay? Salem? Bowey?

Did he say this "Then we won the flag the next year, and then he left, and we bowed out in two straight finals and it’s gone downhill since" How do you interpret that statement? Players dropped the ball? Fitness program not up to scratch?

Not saying our fitness is as good it was when Burgess was there but seriously Oliver needs to look at his own "standards" before he starts suggesting others within the club need to do better Part of the problem with our club is that they talk a big game more often than play one

POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
It was always going to end like this Narrow defeat clutched from the jaws of victory and handing the most despised pack of deadbeats a double chance which frankly I don't think they deserve. My only solace is that despite them making finals I can't see them doing much other than filling the coffers of the corrupt AFL Any new coach worth his salt should be able to tweak this emerging game style and hopefully restore some semblance of confidence amongst a number of senior players that clearly have totally lost any idea how to win games A few months no doubt will restore my broken faith in this club - we have been here many times before Our list still has some glaring holes - I haven't seen much evidence in recent years of us being able to add recycled talent to make a meaningful difference - hopefully that's all about to change

2025 MRO & Tribunal
I tend to agree that a meaningful financial punishment may be the best way to address this type of issue - the one caveat being the clubs could cover it somehow which would defeat the purpose if they did that. I'm not a particularly big fan or Rankine or Adelaide necessarily but it seems these types of suspensions are way OTT I get to a few games every season, some unfortunately do not have civilized MFC members in attendance 😀 If the AFL banned any supporter that verbally abused players, umpires or other supporters then we'd see a serious drop off in crowd numbers

The most likely tall forward and tall defender combo
I know it's been flagged before, but I do wonder if May could reinvent himself as a KPF - we have done this successfully before with the likes of Neitz and Biffen. We seem to have more options in the tall defender category and May does offer a few characteristics that on paper at least might make this worthy of a test run. Strong overhead mark and seems to read the play and ball drop well Not easily out bodied one on one A pretty good kick over distance - (not sure about his short kicks though) Reasonably quick off the mark and in a straight line Has a physical presence something that IMO is sadly lacking in our F50 (JVR and Melky offer this to some extent, but the former is looking less like a KPF than we perhaps we had hoped) Can May function as a forward given he has followed them around for years? In theory he should know all their tricks - in any event worth some consideration now we get to have a fresh look at our list Back on topic FB - Petty - if not available or out of form TMac if he stays fit and firing CHB - JVR or Disco, personally I think Lever is not a KPD and is only useful as a third man up interceptor I'm hopeful AMW comes back next year better than ever and can release one of Rivers or Mc Vee to more midfield time

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?
I'm not sure if Buckley is the right person to take over or not however, he admits openly that during his playing days and probably the first half of his tenure as senior coach he was always assessing his own performance and those around him with unrealistic expectations and through a negative lens. He now sees the world differently (according to him) and I'm sure would take a different approach to coaching now having a more experienced/mature head. Does that make him the best possible candidate? Maybe but we will find out soon enough Part of me whilst hating anything to do with CFC loves the idea of him winning a flag at the club he supported as a kid - and the fact that he is clearly still very driven to achieve the one thing that he failed to do in what has otherwise been a stellar career.

Welcome to Demonland: Luker Kentfield
Very limited preseason and serious illness so his efforts this year are really very encouraging. Love the fact he seems to have a bit of mongrel - something we've really lacked in the F50 and has a decent set shot routine. Personally, if I was the incoming coach I'd be thinking he has potential to be the tall strong bodied KPF we have been hoping for. Get him in the gym and get him super fit over summer and let him have a crack early next year. Jefferson is looking unlikely at this time (unreliable kick and is timid as a church mouse) JVR wants to wrestle rather than lead like a true forward - I'm starting to think he might evolve into a KPD in time with the query being on closing speed

GAMEDAY: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
Seriously, if true we have a real bunch of babies at this club and the sooner we ship some out the better. It's great that they liked their coach but from the outside looking in it is starting to feel like there was not enough tough love. Their individual and team performances have bordered on shambolic at times and they are largely to blame for their coach getting shown the door. I have absolutely no doubt that any prospective coach will be in attendance today or at least watching on the TV - sook it up and play dead at your own peril would be my advice.

Simon Goodwin respect thread.
On the off-chance Simon reads this Thank you for playing a big part in delivering the ultimate success that many of us long suffering MFC supporters had given up on Genuinely hope you remain one of the demon faithful post coaching

Suggest you sit through the whole thing - make your own mind up - everyone will have their take on it but for me his messaging was underwhelming I have less confidence in the direction of this club today than I did yesterday - and frankly it wasn't very high yesterday

PREGAME: Rd 22 vs Western Bulldogs
Wow just a little bit glass half empty The response from the players this week will be telling
-
Simon Goodwin Sacked
You obviously have/had extremely low expectations of Green To me that was one of the most amateurish performances I've ever had the displeasure to witness God help this football club if that effort reflects in any way the competency of the Board that is apparently making sound decisions about our future direction Simon spoke well and I personally wish him well. Hopefully this decision is the right one for all concerned but to me I have significant doubts as someone looking in from the outside not knowing all the facts

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
Same I get to see the swans more than I'd like tbh Brodie tries very hard and has played well this year compared to the last few seasons, but he is no Max. If you had to choose either in your team, I'd struggle to even consider Brodie over Max.

Interesting I wonder where we would be sitting on the ladder had we kicked at 56% before the bye round?
