Interesting idea and maybe worth a go but I'd question if he has the leg speed to play that role I know Jetta wasn't exactly quick but he managed to read the game better than anyone which helped compensate - I'd suggest towards the end his lack of pace really became his enemy
-
ahhh - which ones area available ? Please copy us on the list of those that are 1. available and keen to join the MFC 2. capable of having a meaningful impact say average of 2 to 3 goals per game I'm on record as saying Petty is our best KPD but unless we find a KPF who can compete in the air and on the ground I don't think we are going to improve next year As far as finding our new KPF in the draft currently we don't have a single first round pick and I suspect we wont get a top 10 pick from the Jackson deal - in any event if we did draft a KPF they generally take years to actually have a impact on a consistent basis
-
It would be tempting but at the end of the day that would be like pooping in your own nest I am disappointed he decided to leave - I think I'm going to be more disappointed with the tripe compensation that will be offered - hope I'm very wrong and we are fairly compensated but just can't see it happening
-
Bowey could be an option on wing but the question is whether or not someone like Jordon is a better all round winger Woey has shown some good signs and is a better than average user of the football - his challenge is to get it more of it - also seems a bit one paced
-
Chugg sounds like he'd perform well on Mad Monday - pass on both for mine
-
Chandler is not slow but I would say Bedford is just about the quickest on our list so having watched a fair amount of Casey I'd say he has Chandler covered for speed
-
To be fair if the coaching group didn't rate Toby they wouldn't have selected him as medi sub so often - there is no doubt in my mind he is on the edge of regular selection and some of our regular small forwards (probably with the exception of Kozzy) are very much on notice
-
Agree Toby is what I'd describe as a work in progress - shows some flashes of brilliance but he lacks consistency One thing he does have in spades is speed and excellent acceleration - these are qualities that we don't have in abundance so I would prefer Toby stays a Demon and strives to improve and force himself into the starting 22.

Thanks DD - I wasn't suggesting any of the "options" were for ruck duties only a KPD role

I'm all in on Petty being our new KPF in 2023 - probably at the expense of BBB If JVR has a very big summer and gets super fit and puts on more size there is no reason why he doesn't get AFL games next season With the addition of these two I think our forward structure would be way more potent both in terms of competing in the air but also at ground level - both have also shown that when given a look they are very capable at set shot conversion Begs the question who replaces Petty in the backs Problem is Petty is our tallest defender so we don't have an automatic replacement that can easily take the big gorillas or resting rucks of opposition teams Options Turner - I rate him highly and he is an AFL tall back in waiting - 2023 could be the year he cements a starting position. But probably needs to muscle up more - probably doesn't have the height to replace Petty's role TMac - yep he could go back and provide a solution to help cover Petty's move forward. But is he physically able to be the player he once was - big risk IMO Weid - seems to have found a role as a mobile ruck - personally don't think his ruck work is that great and he is particularly vulnerable near opposition goals where he gets out bodied far too easily. He also can't hold marks in general play. Some have suggested trialing him as a KPD - it could be worth a try as he has the height and is reasonably mobile - I remain skeptical due to lack of aggression but who knows Tommo - I don't think he plays tall enough and lacks mobility so its difficult to find a suitable matchup on a regular basis - like him as a footballer and you know he is going to give 100% but I just don't think he's a KPD J Smith - not the height of Petty but with his leap he is probably best suited to defending the oppositions tallest forward if Petty went forward. His biggest issue as we all know is injuries - he just can't stay on the park Corey Ellison - Casey tall that IMO has shown enough to be given some consideration as a rookie listed player - not sure of his height (193cm ?) but is a late developer that could really grow in statue quickly in an AFL system New recruit - yes I know we all think we need another tall forward but if Petty goes forward as I believe he should we may actually be better looking for a tall back - arguably easier to find than a tall KPF

He is originally from around Ballarat FYI - not from WA

Salmon was a great kick for goal and his technique was significantly better than Max's - not saying he was a better player but no comparison when it comes to goal kicking - It is an area that Max really needs to work on if the plan is to have him spend more time in the F50
-
Swans too quick - hope they win today and then belt the flogs from Geelong
-
Well if that help you feel better then ok They are poor and we made them look good - one of the weakest performances the MFC has delivered in the last couple of years - certainly not helped by a good % of our players seemingly injured and simply out on their feet Based on how we finished the year we would be zero chance to beat any of the teams remaining in the hunt

Depressing thinking the lions beat us

Thanks LN - my comment was meant as a joke and to be light hearted given the commentary around LJ In hindsight and knowing the circumstances it was not appropriate

Probably the same reason Tomlinson and Joel Smith were not selected as tall backs in the latter half of the season Our current highest ranked starting talls in D50 are Petty, May and Lever. I'd love to see us play Petty in the F50 next season probably replacing BBB - should that happen it would open up a spot for one of Turner, Tommo or J Smith I've watched a lot of Casey this year and IMO Turner has as much upside as JVR who many are touting as the next big thing. This is certainly not a criticism of JVR btw - both are very young, still learning and still building AFL level fitness and size
-
Max looks as flat as a pancake - I suspect most of us have the same hollow feeling watching the remaining finals particularly seeing Brisbane still involved who I simply don't rate He acknowledges that we need to work on some things which to anyone who watched this team in the second half of the 2022 season would know all too well He knows that we have a capable list to be in contention again but as history has shown if you fail to evolve and change opposition teams will quickly learn how to counter your strengths and expose your weaknesses. Come 2023 IMO we need to create a better system of transitioning the ball from defense to inside F50 and improve our personnel and structures in the forward half - tick those boxes and we can challenge again
-
Agree and I'll say it once more H Petty IMO is our best defender - yes better than May and Lever
-
Actually to be fair he was performing well enough to be selected and was selected against Collingwood - unfortunately he was concussed with a heavy knock in that game - I am very confident that the FD have a very different view on this young mans potential than you do
