How do you think they become A grade midfielders? Surely the coaching plays a huge part. Royal just seems out of touch now.

7th of August, 2013 To whom this may concern, The apostrophe has now been removed from my previous post #1778. I am terribly sorry about this mistake. I promise to check all spelling and grammar for now on. Regards, alias275

Not worried one bit. By the time his contract is up, we should be on our way up the ladder. Because if we ain't, can't blame the kid for leaving. So again, not worried. Was more Happy to read Misson's comment on Clarky Misson also said "Mitch Clark has resumed running with the rehabilitation group as he begins his preparation to be ready for 2014"

Yep Tyler has his Year 12 exams next month. Dylan has finished school. Dylan plays for the UNSW/ES Bulldogs. Bounces pretty much between Premier and 1st Division in the Sydney AFL. He was on the same Swans Under 18 Academy with Brandon Jack (same age) and we know who Brandon now plays for. Dylan has more interest in Basketball than AFL and I believe he has no interest in an AFL career. Tyler from what I've heard doesn't play at all. So by November Roos has both his boys out of Cranbrook School. This is why he hasn't brought it up this year. edit: Removed my accidental yet so irritating apostrophe from Roos, just for the grammar Police.

From what I read a few weeks back both Eade and Williams are barred from any future coaching interviews until their respected team has finished it's season (including finals). This was something the AFLCA have put in place. PJ has simply contacted their agents to touch base and to obviously have the message passed on that we are keen.

And a hairdresser to get rid of that new age (can't use the word) Mullet.

Agree D26. We went the whole of 2013 without Dawes and Clark on the park together. So of course this is the major factor. I got the feeling Hogan will settle in nicely, just as long as we keep the hype down. Just comparing VFL footage between Watts (5 years ago) and Hogan now, that boy don't take crap from anyone. His biggest difference to Watts is he uses that body of his. Effectively too. Fingers are definitely crossed for how this all pans out. But in regards to those early picks, I'm definitely a supporter of Roo's hypothetical analysis.

Yeah I wonder why? one was poorly developed, the other done the runner for money before any more damage was done. The only reason why I think we have a strong forward line, is because none of the KPF are from Melbourne. Clark spent his first 6 at Brissie, Dawes 5 at the Pies and Hogan by the looks of things, doesn't need any.

I can't agree more with Paul Roos. Trade both first rounds picks for established and experienced midfielders. When are we ever going to learn we cannot fix our problem by drafting talented kids?, our development of these highly picked young men is that poor we have how many threads already on players not showing much improvement? Our forward line (Hogan, Clark, Dawes, Howe, Fitz etc) is extremely strong already. We all know we have an experienced back line (due to all the work they have to do week in week out) We need experienced mids, nothing else. We have enough potential future midfielders, just absolutely no one to show them how it is done. And if anyone thinks Jones can, think again. Jones only knows what he does by watching other midfielders he plays against. Why? he has absolutely no one to learn off inside the club. Royal has to go too. Far too old for the modern midfield.

Yep. He chased a Giants player flat out on the wing and didn't even get close, in fact I think the gap lengthened. Then surprisingly, Pedersons's chase was a lot faster. He almost caught his Giants opponent.

Agree on getting a new Captain. No Captains, just Captain. Dawes or Clark. They are leaders, experienced, both come from other clubs (which I think is a main factor) and are both keen to turn this club around. Grimes is one of the best blokes at the MFC, but I think both Grimesy and Trenners need to just go back to being players and focus on their footy. They need to remain at the MFC. These 2 will make a difference. Grimes will easily become captain again after whoever and he has another 3-4 years under his belt.

After Saturday's game against GWS I really don't care who goes anymore. I am more concerned on who stays. Because if they do, they better have a much improved attitude next year. Our list is that far behind others that our weaker players are not pushing for spots, because there is no fight to keep any. Not one player on Friday seemed keen for the game on Saturday (GWS v Melb). Viney was about the only one to say "Yeah can't wait to get out there" but almost sounded scripted like he's repeated it all year. At training the rest seemed more occupied in kicking goals from tight angles whilst the coaches had a little chit chat on the field. Yes it wasn't a full training session, I understand that. But surely it was time then to switch on and get the attitude and focus right for the game. For the boys it seemed like Saturday's result was already in their heads. Another loss. This is obviously what everyone has been talking about. There is nothing left in our players anymore. Too many losses have set it in stone now. It will definitely take more than just a good coach to reverse this I reckon.

I am actually glad PJ pointed out this clubs faults which includes continual reliance on high draft picks, who in return are wasted on poor development. Half the posters on here are still going at it though. Kids are not going to resurrect this club. They just add to the laziness we are all beginning to call the 'cancer'. We just need experience, leadership, matured bodies, hard ball getters and a decent coach. Then each and every year after that, we draft the kids as we now have a club that can develop, lead and mentor. If an article came out in tomorrows paper saying the MFC is trading all draft picks for experienced players. I would actually die of shock that we are finally turning this club around with an intelligent plan and not just placing constant pressure on 18 year old kids.

Can I just say one quick thing. Not having a go at anyone, but I have bit my lip a fair few times when the whole 'GWS has failed' thing comes up. I live in the Western suburbs of Sydney and have since 1989. I have been through hell and back supporting not only my club, but the great game in general. Was teased and constantly hammered in the 90's, but I lived with it. I have played football for 2 clubs in Sydney, one in the early SFL days and still currently play for a Division 1 Sydney AFL club. Since the AFL jumped on the GWS thing, we have had 4 of our main grounds completely redone and in tip top condition with all new surface, lighting and irrigation systems. We have a full structured and solid competition, with not only a website that is constantly updated with scores, but now we are also getting live stats taken down as well. The kids at school now have Aus Kick available (prior to that PE teachers didn't even know the game to teach it). My friends 8 year old daughter came home the other day and told us she wants to play AFL. This would have been unheard of prior to the AFL's move in Western Sydney. I'm not having a go, but just try to think about all the little things that go on, before you all write off the GWS idea. There is a lot more to the community than just a team, they visit the schools, they spread the game and I couldn't be more proud of the great game in the city I live in. I will also be attending the game next week at Skoda Stadium with a whole bunch of friends who have recently gotten into the game. For as long as I remember it would just be my old man and myself at the Swans games cheering on the Demons all by ourselves. This has all changed since the AFL took interest into Western Sydney. It has truly made a huge difference and we constantly get new players to our club that have come over from Soccer and League. Those numbers increase every year.

Spot On. It's called folk music and just like 'Waltzing Matilda' it only has 3 chords. Funnily enough 'Waltzing Matilda' never took over the Australian National Anthem, but it does get referred to as the unofficial Anthem of Australia on many occasions. I think everyone's missing the point. It is not here to replace anything, it was not written to be used in any particular environment. It was just written for the supporters who take appreciation to it. That's it.

That's the only thing I got out of this song. I cannot see how it is insulting the club. I mean, it's no big secret the club is in the ruts, why hide from it? Be proud of the history, the hard fought players and rejoice the new era. Well picked up BB. Someone forgot about the 2nd verse
-
Insulting? How on earth do you come up with that? I don't think it really needs a place to fit BB. Just another classic Mike Brady feel good song that was written for the MFC. Found it to be quite a proud little moment.

Lyrics (from what I could hear) Get Out and Have a Go by Mike Brady We've known those mighty moments, those glory days of old We have had our share of champions, who never left the fold When a hundred thousand hearts beat true And passion is a given Get out there you Melbourne boys And show 'em that your driven And never forget, the pride within these halls And never take for granted, the legends on these walls Dee's that live forever, in this mighty game we play Demons that have left a mark, I wonder what they'd say What would Jimmy say? What would Barrassi say? What would Robbie say? What would Schwarta say? What would Smithy say? He was always in the know He'd say "Get out there you Demons, Get out and have a go" The red and blue's a symbol, it's a part of what we are We've worn since we started, and it's known near and far When a hundred thousand voices Echo loud across the G They're telling you to stand up Be what you can be And never forget, the deeds that have been done And never take for granted, the flags that were hard won Those names will live forever, even bolder than today Those mighty Demon legends, now I'd wonder what they'd say What would Garry say? What would Tassie say? What would Cracker say? What would Neitza say? What would Barrassi say? Purposely and slow He'd say "Get out there you Demons" "Get out and have a go" So what would we all say? Every one of us that cares Every heart thats beating Every dream that dares We shout it all together, so everybody knows We'd say "Get out there you Demons" "Get out and have a go" We'd say "Get out there you Demons Get out and have a go"

Great stuff Theo, thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting to hear it for a while now.

My only fear is how much time will there be between when we appoint the new senior coach and trade week? Knowing our luck, no players will want to come to Melbourne until they know who the senior coach will be.

I have a lot of respect for Mike Brady. 'Up there Cazaly' and 'One day in September' are great historical footy songs. Who else better to write a song to help boost up the whole club through troubled times. They will still run out to 'It's a Grand Old Flag', but who's to say it won't be a song they can pump themselves up with before they run out. Little bit about Mike Brady - Board member on the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia Victorian Board - Board director of Variety Victoria and is a Life Member of the organisation - Patron of the Bali Children Foundation - Patron of the Australian Huntington's Disease Association (Vic) - Involved with the Bluearth Foundation, Melbourne Legacy and the Yooralla Society - Australia Day ambassador
