Training - Monday 21st January, 2013 @ Casey Fields
alias275 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Last I heard in regards to Clark, he feels really good in the foot. Recovery is ahead of schedule, but they dare not rush him back sooner than planned as they are not wanting to risk it at all. I remember even reading in one of the members training reports, he was bouncing around the training group keen as mustard to join in. So he must be feeling close to 100%, but is only held back for safety reasons. And yes, this time last year, we still had Misson running them raggered , building up endurance fitness. -

So wish I could go to these sessions. I literally refresh this page all day Monday, Wednesday and Friday reading all your posts. They certainly don't go to waste. And the interstate fans really appreciate the reports you guys post.- 80 replies

All I can say is, glad he walked out now. This would have just been another incident for Melbourne and the first major for 2013.

I can almost guarantee a difference in Sam Blease this year. I noticed he is not a big ball winner, he use to sit back (as instructed) and wait for the inside ball out from Jones. Now because Jones battled this mainly on his own, Blease only came into use in small dribs and drabs. I'm sure now with multiple ball winners (Viney/Jones and co) and and having multiple outside mids (Blease/Toumpas and co) it creates more than 1 option evertime as it seemed all oppositions would just tag Jones, block the outside mid and it was a guaranteed clearance for them every time. If Melbourne win the ball out the middle we have more than Blease now who can dart out of the pack and hit a target forward.

Couldn't agree with Ben-Hur more. He was hot property this year, being the only decent tall forward in the 50, but if we have Dawes, Peder and even Jamar/Fitz resting in the forward 50. I would love to see Clark run the Ruck for a spell. He can most certainly influence and change games. He done it many times at Brisbane.

I really hope we get him. He looks the goods. I certainly don't want to bring up those past players mentioned before, because I am one for all these trades getting done. And getting Jack Hannath would be the icing on the cake for me. New MFC 4 2013

Yeah i like the GoPro Cam look. And who better to use it that Jonesy. Was that Tom Couch's attempt to block Jones out of the centre bounce.....FAIL.
-
I'm the same as the OP. Hated him when it all happened, but loving him now Scully = Toumpas (compensation pick, who comes with a whole backpack full of tricks and is AFL ready) Clark (salary room bought a player who wins almost every 1on1 contest and bagged 29 goals in 11 games) Jones (who has mostly improved since Scully left. It was like a huge mental step up)

Yes Glenn Lovett. Thanks Bossdog. I mixed those 2 up more than the Febey brothers and they looked nothing like each other haha Nothing memorable about Matthew Bate..... oh wait there once was that time when.......ummmm.......... yeah nothing.

Dawes wanted a fresh number. In my lifetime I can only think of Brett Lovett (86-97) in the number 6. I hope Viney takes #7 Pick 4 #23 Hogan #1 Barry #33

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
alias275 replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
I never knew about the had to play for 8 years to be a FA thing. That was my only fear. Having the guy for 2 years, then losing him only to get a compensation pick and start the 2 years all over again. Guess we'll see tomorrow. I'm happy with both, but as a player ready to go obviously Toumpas is the best pick. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
alias275 replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
Both are fantastic players. But I would scrap the whole "best player available" crap which has never worked for us and just go for the player most likely to gel well with Viney, remain at the club and who actually wants to play for us. Free agency now people. Toumpas will play out his 2 years and take the best offer to move back to Adelaide. WINES 100% -
This always worries me. We all get excited about the first pick, then he nicks off. But now with free agency and players sniffing around for more $$$. It really doesn't matter anymore. We need MFC to be one of the big clubs, so that players want to come to us, not us trying our best to hold them. So in that regard I'd say Toumpas. He just looks so classy. Use him as much as we can for the 2 years, as we'd have more chance of him staying, feeling part of the whole rise, then baby him and screw his development.

Looks like Jake Spencer has put on some size as well. Looks pretty big in one of those sprint pics of Steamin's -
I couldn't find my thread for a sec then. Is it common to have your threads renamed and taken over by admins? 31 would be good, receiving 5 from Schwartz would be better, but picking number 1 would be best. I will be able to finally put good use to my player issued number 1 jersey, seeing Warnock only had it for a year lol.

Well I have the feeling he is pretty keen to resurrect his form. Word has it, after Neeld and Browny visited him at home, Neeld pitched the whole "The Dee's is where its all at", Browny and I are your coaches, your playing your preferred position with nothing stopping you. So it's all in Dawes hands. Hey if he delivers, stays with the club, he will be a name for the number 31.
-
Well the club said they will certainly be announcing the jumper presentation date before the 1st of Dec, but I am wondering the most as to what number Chris Dawes will be. He has played under 31 at Collingwood, but our 31 was retired again after $cummy took off to GWS. Will we issue him the 31? or a fresh number for a fresh start? Anyone with any inside information?

Glad to see Dunn re-signed. He seems to be one of very few players that actions lift the team.

I'm with ya OP. Each year I get just as excited, to only be let down again and again. But in those years it was examples like waiting for Jack Watts to debut and watching the Scully/Trengove midfield invasion etc. But there is so much more on offer next year. Our forward line and midfield have drastically changed. Just looking at the AFL's best 22 for each side next year, showed only 2 players (with more than 2 years at the Dee's) from memory. They had Clark, Pederson, Dawes, Byrnes, Silvia and Howe. I have huge faith Dawes will spark. He absolutely hated the back up ruck role and went missing this year. Pederson is another who could easily pick up his form and dominate his position again. Then with Viney and possibly his buddy Wines, surely these 2 are going to run a muck in the middle. Jones will feel the assistance immediately. I think if off field dramas stay away from the club next year, I put us in our just outside the 8.

Contract talks for Lynden Dunn and Joel Macdonald progressing well
alias275 replied to Demon Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah I've never caught on to the whole Jmac bashing. I don't think he makes many more mistakes than the rest of them down back. I mean gosh Chippa kicked it straight to an opposition player running towards goals 15 out in one of those last games of the season. I think Dunn and JMac are never short of putting the hard yards in, yes they're not guns, but they certainly put their contributions in and deserve to be out there over the likes of Cale, who just doesn't give a toss. -
Can't say I have really ever been impressed with Matthew Bate. The fact he wasn;t traded last year to the Dogs says something. A definitely delist and I doubt very much anyone will pick him up. Should just continue to play for Casey. The VFL is more his speed.
-
In the short term trading a player like Martin for Wellingham would work in the favour of Melbourne. But in the long term, Collingwood will definitely benefit more landing Martin. Just like Sydney did with Jolly.
-
If the panel don't pick the one against Sydney, they have rocks in their head. It just doesn't get better than that. No Pack, no assistance on the leap, full hang time, do I need to say anymore.
-
So true, so very true. Well I must agree 100%. 'No.1 P_ick' would be the best sign out there. You got Tom, we got Mitch We got goals, you got stitched.. ?? lol

Thanks belzebub59, kind of regretting my first post now though. Felt like i went head over the ball and got smashed lol.
