  1. 300+games, 600+ goals, twice all-Australian, Coleman Medal winner ... you'd think he'd be in with a chance. But then again, he played for the least fashionable club in the AFL. I suspect he won't make it anytime soon if at all, but I'd love to be wrong. Thoughts?
  2. Saw a supporter at the G once, Punt Road end, doing a really funny "Cam Bruce has gone mad ... Cam Bruce has gone mad..."
  3. It's one of the questions. There's no doubt Worsfold wouldn't have given Watts the soft treatment that he got from Bailey. And if NN had gone to us he might have become the next Nick Smith. But there are people on this forum who argue, apparently in all seriousness, that Watts right now is the better player. This is insane.
  4. NN will probably be All Australian this year. JW was in and out of the worst team in the AFL this the year. The comparisons were valid once. Now any comparison is a joke.
  5. Byrnes is, at the least, a good VFL standard small forward. But he's probably better than that - a good average player who could get a regular spot in half the teams in the league. Not good enough? OK, he's not the Wiz in full flight. So what? At present, we don't even have Diamond Valley League standard small forwards.
  6. I agree with this. The four finals games have shown just how far behind we are in fitness, speed and strength. It will take three Misson pre-seasons to get them to the right standard.
  7. Beggars can't be choosers. The only relevant question is whether he would improve the side at reasonable cost.
  8. There's quite a few multi premiership coaches who are available: RDB, of course; also Tommy Hafey, Lethal Leigh and David Parkin.
  9. I said not empty promises. There's nothing wrong with the captain showing some leadership. He just has to choose his words more carefully.
  10. Grimes could have said "I'm not going to insult your intelligence with yet more empty promises. What I can say is that we've let the supporters down this year and we're going to make amends by training as hard as we can over the summer and as captain I'm going to make it my business to make sure that every player in the club buys into the coaches' plans for 2013 and beyond". If he'd said that he's have won some respect instead of looking like the Cameron Bruce of his generation.
  11. He could have said this a year ago. Maybe he did. More cheap off-season talk. How about less talk, more wins?
  12. We've done so well from Essendon castoffs over the years ... Morecroft, Heffernan ... sign him now.
  13. Like Lucas Cook, Davis hasn't fired a shot in his 2 years at the club. But unlike Cook, he has gone under the radar and no one seems to screaming for him to be given the Bulli. Should he stay? Will he stay?
  14. If he has to go and live in Adelaide for family reasons, so be it. But he could have done it the right way and requested a trade instead of just walking out on the club. The Melbourne Football Club has stood by him through his troubles and he should have done the right thing.
  15. I hope Rivers stays. He has always been one of my favourite players.
  16. If Trengove was top 5 we were one of of the worst teams of all time.
  17. Is he contracted? If so the club should play hard ball and insist on a trade.
  18. It really says it all that if you're a Melbourne supporter the off-season is much more enjoyable than the actual football season. We have six months now of cutting out the dead wood, trading, drafting and pre-season reports about how the boys are flying and it's the best pre-season ever. It's such a shame that reality will set in, again, by half time in R1 2013. But never mind. A joyous summer awaits.
  19. Mere regression to the mean should be the cause of some improvement. We surely couldn't be this bad two years in a row. Could we?
  20. This is all very well, but Neeld is going to have to want him.
  21. When there were 16 teams you only had to finish half down the ladder to make the finals, and you could finish half way down the ladder by winning about half your games. With 18 teams if you win about half your games you will still finish about half way down the ladder, but that now means 9th or 10th, which won't get you into the finals.
