  1. 9 judges each issuing 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 across 23 players. I don't know the probability of a tie but would think it very low. If its a tie then I would wonder if McLachlan and Evans have been pulling strings.
  2. Both figures may be correct, rpfc. The $350k is the average figure the AFL used to cap the salary Sydney could pay a player being traded in. The diff $$ to the $265k average is likely 1st/2nd year and rookie player and as they are nearly 20% of players, skew the average down. For FA discussion, I felt the $350k was more relevant. The $500k came from a number of commentators who yes, were probably guessing as no-one knows the Frawley contract! Nonetheless, the whole FA system is very seriously flawed and it will only get worse as more players become FA's and if the AFLPA get the changes they want. The draft will be a joke!
  3. Quite true 'Ricky'. Daniel Talia won it in 2012 as a full-back! So, yeah a key forward will win it at some stage! Nonetheless, would love Jesse win it! For him, the team and for supporters. Something more to cheer about!
  4. This years 'high value' FA's that appear likely to attract 1st round draft picks: Kreuzer Leuenberger S Selwood Dangerfield Then add in 3 'Academy' players that look likely to go top 10-15. (Not sure if there are any Father/Son picks likely to go in the first round). Suddenly 'natural' 2nd rnd picks are seriously devalued: using Melbourne for example our 2nd round pick 24 will get us the 31st best player not the 24th!! Eddie is right: its time for a truly 'uncompromised' draft and scrap all those draft benefits. This years draft will show what a farce of a system the AFL has hatched.
  5. A timely article on comp pics: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-09-08/firstround-free-agency-picks-unfair-pelchen?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=RSS+feed%3A+AFL+Latest+News A 1st round comp pick apparently is @ about $500k pa - not that far over the AFL average (around $350k). Clearly they have set the bar far too low! As more players come out of contract to FA status a club could get pick 1, 2, 3 if it loses several 'above average' FA's at once! Crazy stuff! Imagine if the AFLPA gets its way and lowers the FA service period to 6 years! The AFL will have comp picks all over the place and the 'natural' draft order will become meaningless. Yes, the AFL is in a bind! One of its own making, as usual! Scrap the whole FA thing and have players traded in the usual way. Eliminates distortion and unfairness across the whole player/trade/draft processes. Simple!
  6. Not sure why you compared Garlett to Dawes as Garlett is streets ahead: Garlett: 22 games, 40 goals, average 1.8. Career average: 1.7 per game Dawes: 14 games, 11 goals, average 0.8 Career average: 1.1 per game souce: MFC website Jeff kicks 35-45 goals every year and there is no reason why he can't play 22 games for a few years yet. Dawes can't even get on the park let alone kick goals.
  7. From the latest AFL Wikipedia page:- "At the end of the season, nine AFL personalities (typically administrators and All-Australian team selectors) vote for five of the nominees, with their top selections earning five votes, their second selection earning four votes, etc. The player who receives the most votes is the winner. The current selection panel includes AFL CEO, Gillon McLachlan, AFL Football Operations Manager, Mark Evans, AFL National Talent Manager, Kevin Sheehan, and former players, Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Glen Jakovich, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson, and Warren Tredrea.[4]." Not sure if that is the list this year tho'. I suspect there is a fair amount of 'guessing' as there is no way those guys watch the nominees play regularly. At best they will be given an info pack and vision of the top 5-10 (of the 23 nominees).
  8. Last week on 360 Roos 'warned' supporters of an active trade period. At the time I thought/posted no need to 'warn' us, an active trade period is what we wanted! Maybe, dropping Watts was to prepare ('warn') his supporters for the trade and to soften the blow.
  9. Even if that is so, it is poor form of the club to not let him play a final game for a club he has been extremely loyal to and has worked extremely hard with memberships and kids.
  10. Etihad! Another voodoo bites the dust!!
  11. Changing a couple of words (in red) makes it so easy to put the opposite view
  12. I saw this in an AFL article: 'Eade said the club would focus on picking up the best available talent in the upcoming draft, while it would use the trade period to boost its playing stocks in the 22 to 27-year-old age bracket.' Suns appear to be losing Dixon so will need a 'tall'...could it be that Watts and Howe are heading towards the sun. Maybe in return for a player eg Prestia, O'Meera, Bennell? In an ideal world we get to keep our 1st round pick.
  13. He probably thought he could cruise thru the year and big offers like GWS 2014 would just waltz thru his front door. A bit big headed, maybe? But he has been average this year so devalued himself badly. Also, his manager seems a bit of a muppet:- A month ago T Viney said we wouldn't pay more that we thought he was worth. Roos said we had started talks with Jeremy but then his manager says 'hang on a minute we are talking to others and will wait and see'. Now that Jeremy is being shopped around again my take is he didn't like the probable MFC offer and finds that other clubs have cooled their heels a bit. If he gave us the run-around he may well have done that to other clubs which would beg the question from them: how much do you actually want to play with this club? I just hope if Jeremy stays he lifts his game to be near the top 5 in the B&F. A reasonable expectation of a 100 game player coming into his prime.
  14. If 'Mono' agrees we should close this thread. Then the mods can pin your excellent, longstanding thread
  15. If Jack was to be traded, I would be extremely disappointed in the club not allowing him a final game in the red and blue. He has been a staunch and loyal player and works beyond the call of duty to meet kids, members etc. Deserves the game, if to be traded that is. No final game would leave a bitter taste as did the attempted trade of Jack T last year, which by all accounts he only reluctantly agreed to. So, don't think he is up for trade.
  16. Could be simple explanations:- -Maybe they want to put Jesse on the front cover after he wins the Rising Star award! -Maybe Jack isn't playing for team balance reasons and so they can give the kids a go. It doesn't make sense to not play him just because there is a trade in the wings. On that basis why play Howe? He obviously didn't like the offer we made him and wants to go. I'm hoping and praying that Jack is a Dee for many years to come.
  17. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/luke-hodge-caught-drink-driving-20150904-gjfhxc.html Luke Hodge caught drink driving - registered 0.068 Not a good look a few weeks from finals. Is out suspended for this round. Sill, poor form on his part.
  18. Like North, MFC followed the rules that were in place at the time. The AFL have now done a back flip and given their blessing to a club not doing their best to win. We won't get our $500k. But, I would like to see MFC publicly exonerated to clear the good name of Dean Bailey. Even posthumously, it would mean a lot to his family and friends.
  19. The biggest beneficiary of North losing is Richmond! The ladder is (and unlikely to change): Richmond 121.4 56 Bulldogs 116.8 56 Adelaide 119.1 54 Nth Melbourne 109.1 52 North would need to win by a humongous amount of goals to get over Richmond's % which is unlikely so they will end up 8th either way. But if they (WB and Crows) win the ladder would be: Bulldogs 116.8 60 Adelaide 119.1 58 Richmond 121.4 56 Nth Melbourne 109.1 56 So the impact of North resting players and losing are: - Adelaide are denied a home final - Richmond get a home final and do not travel. - North play WB. That explains why Hardwick looked like a 'cheshire cat' when interviewed yesterday. Maybe North fancy their chances in a final vs Rich more than they do WB. That is the real benefit to North. I don't know who the AFL are kidding. While North won't improve their ladder position, resting players and losing definitely impacts the finals draw. For that reason their request should have been denied!!
  20. In the article on our website: "White is a defender known for his running and long kicking off half back". Given the sub and i/change changes there is a very good chance he will be promoted to the senior list next year. The article also says: He started the season in the AFL Victoria Development League before playing the next 15 games for Casey in the VFL A major achievement for the young man to come from Development League to AFL in a few months. Shows how committed he is. Hope he enjoys himself on Sunday!
  21. 90 i/change! Down from 120 is a huge change! It means players with stamina and speed will be highly valued. David Misson will need to change the fitness/training regime. This will have a significant impact on our list management and trading/recruiting, this season. It might be why we let Cross go but are considering a contract extension for Jimmy. Other 'slow' players or those with a poor 'tank' will be in danger of being delisted. I'm trying to think or our players 'with speed' but struggling to think of many. Hope we recruit a few.
  22. Great post 'Dom'! Other clubs show patience. Renewing Jimmy's contract indicates our club can also show patience. I think the DL cr*p heaped on Jimmy is because our AFL team has constantly lost since he arrived. If our seniors were winning, DL would be a lot more patient with him and all new recruits. Jimmy has had the additional burden of being a high draft pick and picked instead of a DL fave, who has been starring. Some posters just need a 'whipping boy' and Jimmy is an easy target. Can't wait for Jimmy to be a permanent 22. Then I hope those DL's are gracious enough to eat humble pie!
  23. Clearly he is highly valued by the Club. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-09-02/roos-hopeful-cross-will-take-on-new-role Extract: Cross has been offered a position as development and rehab coach and Roos said the 32-year-old would be a great acquisition to the football department. “He’s got a sports science background and he’s done some study in that area and that’s his passion. But we’d like to talk about a role that helps him involved in the development of players and running with them,” he said on Roos’ Views. “If he wants to play [for Casey in the VFL], then that’s probably another conversation as well, so we’re just starting the conversation of what he might want to do. “The first part of it is that he was very keen to play [on] and it’s just getting over the disappointment of his career ending. He had an idea that that was going to happen, but it still comes as a bit of a shock.” Its a shame that it came as a shock to Crossy. Looks like there is a Shannon Byrnes role for him. Hope he takes it. He will be very good for the young guys and good off-field support for Nat Jones.
  24. Just for you 'Mono'! : Post #309 on this thread - http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37822-2015-contracts-thread/page-13#entry1150195 courtesy of 'rpfc'. He has also included player age and FA status.
  25. Sorry to see Cross go as he has been really good for us. But in a way I'm glad he is retiring as I wouldn't want to read DL threads condemning him if his form drops off. I'd rather see him leave with a bit left in the tank rather than running on empty at Casey.
