MFC supporter's group to host event at male-only club
Lucifers Hero replied to Mickey's topic in Melbourne Demons
It seems the event is hosted by the Melbourne Coterie not by MFC. It is worth getting more info. Does anyone know if the Coterie allows or bans female coterie members and whether they have been excluded from attending the function, albeit as guests because of the Australia Club rules. And, have female Board members been excluded from attending the function. If any of those apply I would be very concerned, much more concerned than where the function is held. Until we know more I will withhold judgement. What I am concerned about is using the Coterie story as an intro to a piece on violence against women. Its a really important topic but I feel the scribe has drawn a long bow to link it to the Coterie function and mfc. -
Update for Lever and Gawn extension to 2024 and 2025 respectively. Now for the ones we all want to see: Oliver and Salem! And I would add Weideman. Thanks to @whatwhatsaywhatfor his pick up of Lever details.
-
In an interview discussed here: Goodwin said of B.Brown and Weideman: "They're both on track, pretty much in line with each other..."we'll have to manage that as a team. They'll both obviously come back through the VFL, so we'll get a good indication as to when they're ready to play AFL footy." So whatever the time frame is it applies to both and we may not see them in the seniors for quite a while..

I'm pretty sure he signed a 5 year deal to joint the club ie till end of 2022. 'Another three seasons' would included the remaining year of his current contract being 2022.
-
I wasn't suggesting we should use all 4 spots. I was responding to a poster to say there are 4 spots, rather than 3, so there is room for all 4 players currently training with us IF the club wanted.
-
Was contracted until the end of 2022 so it is a 2 year extension. The 2 years suggests salary cap management is part of the rationale for extending. Hope he can find his AA form again or at least make it into the top 5 of the B n F.

I think it is four. Two carryover post draft plus LTI: Hore and Nieta. So additional players could be Majak, Deakyn, Farmer jr and Declase. Not sure we need another defender unless a current one eg Petty/Smith is to play fwd. But would trust Choco's judgement of talent.

Don't give up on your mate just yet, od. Maybe Tom's privacy is being respected by the media as this would be a non footy health issue rather than an injury. If there is an impact on his training or playing we may hear about it otherwise nothing may ever be known. Lets hope that if there is a health issue he recovers quickly, regardless of the impact on our games. Maybe the track watchers this week can keep an eye out for him at training.

I would suggest that list management decisions, trades, recruits are very much influenced by the coach in the AFLW. So if we don't have the right or good players then in a large part it comes back to him.

It will be a miracle if we make finals now. Top 4 teams (not order) are set. Not only did we lose the game we lost about 30 percentage points - critical in a cut throat, short season. Bulldogs and North have either a game or % better than us so they are the most likely for 5th and 6th. The really disappointing thing is that while players have changed the way we play has not. That is on the coach!

About 6-8 years ago a room was dedicated to the game at the Bentleigh club. The pull down screen was fuzzy but I doubt if it would cost much to upgrade it. There was a bar in the room and free nibbles at half time. A nice sized crowd would usually be there and it was a good experience to be among only dee fans barracking loudly and as much as we liked. Gradually each of those disappeared to the point where for the last few years, games are shown in the sports bar (with the races etc) or on small 32cm screens in a corner of the pokies room. It was like they wanted us out of there. As a result I now subscribe to Foxtel. Needless to say very few demon fans go now. In fact you wouldn't even know it was connected to mfc except for the odd bit of dated paraphernalia. There is a decent sized fan base in SE Melbourne, a carryover from the days when parts of it were in the mfc zone. No-one at the club seems interested in incorporating the Bentleigh Club into a fan experience and a marketing tool to help build memberships. The last mfc related function there was in 2014 when the players of our last premiership had their 50 year anniversary celebration there. It was there own initiative and I didn't see any mfc staff there. Tickets sold out in a day. So the demand is there to use the Bentleigh Club more creatively. It is much more than a pokie venue which seems to be the perception of current management - I doubt if any of them has been there.

BTW, his dad reads and for a while posted on DL. Ess wouldn't poach him if he wasn't very highly thought of. PJ promoted him to the role so that says something and I think it is churlish to blame him for all the communication issues people perceive about the club. While I think he is a loss, it is good for his career to get experience somewhere else. I wish him every success

After the committed allocations (eg MCC, AFL, etc) the 'Home' side members get priority. If there is any left the 'Away' team members get priority. who-gets-in-to-watch-football-in-round-one- One would think that for atmosphere they would allocate some to the 'Away' team otherwise it will be one sided barracking. Carlton fans won't be happy being locked out of round 1 but hey who cares! Good for us in round 1 as we are the 'Home' side vs Freo. It shouldn't affect us unless the system is still in place in round 5 when we play Hawks as the 'Away' team at the G. Good to see members are being given priority.

Nobody steps up. Put in a 'Committee of Administration' like shareholder's or banks do with companies or governments do when the incumbents are incompetent or lacked achievements over an extended period; this has happened to a number of Local Government Councils. Bartlett has had 8 years with little to show for it. And for mine too many mis-steps. 8 years is long enough to make some sort of positive impact. He hasn't If what you say about including MCC affiliates in our member numbers is correct it is very concerning. Not so much that they are included but if the club has changed the basis of counting members it should be disclosed otherwise it is deceptive.

Thanks for the excellent summary. So he wants to vet potential Board candidates. mfc isn't his private law practice. It is our club and he can't run it like a fiefdom. The more info that is coming out about the Board election and the AGM the more concerned I am about Bartlett's appropriateness for the role and therefore the direction of our beloved football club. As an aside he needs to tell members why it is so critical we are in the MCG precinct. I'm not advocating a move to Casey. But there are other options within 5km of the MCG. Other MCG tenant clubs not located in the precinct do very well. I think his obsession to be located there is part of the 'power trip' you refer to. And will cost us with funding, members etc etc. Kennett had the right idea when he introduced fixed term for club Presidents. Stand down, give someone else a go and then stand for election at the end of that person's term. As it is Bartlett has achieved precious little in 8 years and I don't call giving up Leighoak revenue an achievement.
-
I'm pretty sure the $5m was to upgrade facilities at Casey as part of AFLW start up. The longer Bartlett is obsessed about our facilities being in the 'MCG precint' the longer it will take to get any proposal going and to get any funding. Geelong, Bulldgos and Saints have done very nicely. North not so.

Position Open: MFC General Manager - Commercial

21 inside 50 to 3 and we trail by a point! Like other years we may kick ourselves out of finals/top 4.
-
That was rather selfish (by Zanka, I think?) trying to kick a goal form outside 50! Didn't even look for a team mate. Low percentage play.
-
Not sure how much of an advantage as not all teams play each other so the fixture depends on how the AFL manipulates it to help the teams they want in the finals. I've mentioned it before but Carlton is one such team. Since they lost their first two they have played newbie teams; Saints and Tigers. I would expect them to get a lot more of the low teams to help them to finals. On the other hand we will get Freo, Crows, Lions and GWS making it harder for us to finish up the ladder/top 4. How many of those 4 games are i/state who knows but we need to win i/state because of 'Home' finals. tbh, I'm not worried by the travel. I'm more worried by the AFL manipulating the fixture to favour teams and to help broadcasters with 'blockbuster' games. I will be filthy if we or one of the other 'top' teams' miss finals or the top four because a fixture 'fix' gets teams like Carlton in. The fixture is already distorted by not all teams playing each other. This week-to-week fixturing adds to the farce. Time for the AFL to set out the next five weeks and if covid lockdowns interfere then amend it at the time.

Am beginning to think North aren't as good as many thought. Track record so far is: Rnd 1: vs Cats. Win 11.5.71 vs 1.3.9 Rnd 2: vs Saints. Win 5.6.36 vs 1.4.10 Rnd 3: vs Mighty Dees: Loss 8.3.51 vs 9.6.60 Rnd 4: vs Pies: Loss 0.8.8 vs 4.4.28 I don't think they are as bad as the score vs Pies suggests (bad kicking) nor as good as the first two wins vs newbie teams. Are they becoming the 'flat track bullies' of the AFLW? Hopefully today's game gives more insight on where we sit in the comp. It is also a classic '8-point game'. Win and we go two games up on North, Bulldogs, Carlton and maybe Crows, if they lose to Lions today who are playing at home. I know it is early in the season to talk of '8-point' games but with 5 rounds after today a win gives us a foot on the top four of the ladder. I've now made myself more nervous about today's game.?

The Footy Impact of Victoria's Lockdown

If only it was the footy as the price being paid. The financial, physical and emotional price is extensive for many.
