2018 Player Reviews: # 30 Alex Neal-Bullen
Cranky Franky replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Love his endeavour & tenacity. Really a mid fielder masquerading as a forward. I doubt that he has the leg speed or skills to be a long term forward option so he needs to cent a spot as an onballer. Reminds me of Stephen Newport or Simon Godfrey. -
Treated poorly by the Brains Trust. The Lynden Dunn of 2018. Dropped early on then unlike JKH, Garlett & others never given a second opportunity. Could have been tried as a tagger, defender or wing. Unlucky for mine & a better player than some still at the Club.

This is the silliest thread of the silly season so far.

2018 Player Reviews: # 42 Josh Wagner
Cranky Franky replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A totally beige player. Usually reasonable performer but really needs to step up if he wants to have a career at Melbourne. Would help he he added some aggression to his game. -
Wasn't the hit on Mills it was the fact that his disposal by foot could be terrible at times - it just was not up to AFL standard.

He's getting plenty of credit in the media. I think he has done some great things & other things very poorly. Development of ANB & Harmes has been brilliant. Failure to promote Frost for so long was very poor. Failure to match up 6+6+6 ie allowing opposition to play a loose man in defence cost us games. Coaching against St Kilda was woeful & cost us the match.

Changes v Hawthorn - Semi Final
Cranky Franky replied to The Great Pretender's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought Spargo had a very poor game - clearly overawed. I would have Garlett in the side in a heartbeat - he creates panic in the opposition because he is quick & mercurial however Goodwin loves Spargo so probably no change. -
Open Mike with Mark Neeld on Fox Footy (4/9)
Cranky Franky replied to Hellaintabadplacetobe's topic in Melbourne Demons
Worst ever I agree. Sheehan didn't do his homework or didn't ask the right questions. What effect did the captaincy have on the career of Grimes & Trengove Why was Stef Martin let go. Why were Moloney & Rivers traded ? Why was Jones ignored for the captaincy. Time for Mike to retire. -
Jeez I've seen 3 Casey games on TV and in those games King & Filipovic did SFA - barely won a tap, can't remember them taking a mark & were well beaten. I've seen nothing to suggest either is up to it.

We all support the Club. One of the problems at Melbourne over the years is members blindly supporting coaches & administrations that didn't have a clue about what they were doing. And to suggest Dunn should be delisted because he made a mistake & kicked a "barrell" is not very rational. He seems to have no trouble following Buckley's instructions.

Christian is not up to the job

Have another look at the replay - great fist half but his second half was woeful, slipped, fell over, missed tackles, overan the ball & was generally a liability.
-
The Dunn decision should remind wide eyed supporters that coaches and Clubs often make wrong and stupid decisions. Why on earth he was dropped in 2016 to make way for Oscar McD remains one of the great mysteries along with: Darren Jolly being dropped for the finals Richmond trading out Graham Teasdale & St Kilda trading Ian Stewart Barassi wanting to drop Malcolm Blight after the drawn Grand Final Melbourne declining to sign Doug Wade after he did pre season training with us.

Can't understand why you post this. What is the point of putting up a preferred team. Its pretty much completely useless information. Maybe you are in an alternative Universe.
-
That's the problem for Bugg isn't it ? He cannot kick straight on a regular basis. 30-40m out directly in front & he is about a 30% chance. You cannot play forward unless you can nail those. Bugg's future is as a run with player or maybe a defender. &

Unless they use Vince in the midfield to replace Viney.

Last chance for Kennedy-Harris?
Cranky Franky replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
He is quick enough - not in the Garlett league but quicker than anyone else in our forward line. Dunno where the myth about him being slow started but he is definitely not slow. Anyway its about quickness of hands & decision making & reading the play as much as about leg speed. Some players don't mature until they are 23/24 - lets hope JKH is one of them. -
Is Jeffy Garlett just trade bait now?
Cranky Franky replied to YesitwasaWin4theAges's topic in Melbourne Demons
Come on guys its pretty obvious that he has the $hitz or the sulks after being dropped & is just going through the motions at Casey. Don't forget he pretty much did the same when he was at Carlton. Its disappointing but you can't have a rule for Jeffy and another rule for everyone else. He is on good money & if he doesn't stop sulking I can't see any alternative to delisting him. -
Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
Cranky Franky replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is complete bull$ittt. That would be the same Goody who was part of the team that decided Dunn wasn't up to AFL & consistently played Oscar McD when he was barely VFL level let alone AFL standard. Frost makes errors but he will learn & he has all the attributes to make it at AFL level but has been starved of opportunity. -
We won't know if Pert's any good until after he's been in the job a while: I thought Ray Ellis was going to be good I thought Schwab was going to be good I thought MacNamee was going to be good I thought Harris was going to be good Etc Etc Etc

It stopped being "our great game" when it changed from being 18 on 18 to 22 on 22 - effectively 8 more players in the game. Add additional levels of fitness so they can run all day & it the game has become a continual, congested rugby scrum.
-
I used to think we had been dudded & Leroy & Lewis were easily the 2 best Jettas but Nev has proved me wrong & gone past both of them. His peripheral vision and ability to deliver the ball cleanly & to advantage are second to none.
-
Its a ruthless game & there is no room for sentimentality if you want to be successful. I love the bloke but reckon he is struggling & lucky to be in the 22. Should be delisted at years end.
-
Seems to totally lack any aggression or physical edge to his game. Reminds me very much of Col Garland. ATM he is a back up player & not in my best 22 but still handy to have. Would love to see him develop a bit of "mongrel'.

Nothing bizarre about it. The last 3 times we played them we have had their measure but only managed to win 1 of those mainly due to lack of composure & experience. We have improved from 2017 more than they have.
