AFLW: H&A Cancelled ... Straight to Finals
Good call whether by the girls or the club, best they are safely home with their families. Would love to see them back with us next year.... https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/578468/aflw-dublin-duo-to-head-home

A well considered comment...not. How about you make a constructive comment for once rather than just snipe everyone else on the site. Take what I said to pieces, do your best.

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
I've pulled this across from the game day thread as I think it's probably more suited to here... It is a tough spot to be in but I feel they have probably taken the easier decision. Unfortunately hindsight is going to be a wonderful thing here. We can all be experts in 12 to 18 months time. To me it makes sense to put the season on hold but I can understand why it's going ahead. We're only at the tip of the iceberg at the moment and people saying it will be a mental release to watch some footy whilst right are going to have to find some resilience going forward. It's going to get a lot worse and there will be no footy. It's the goodwill that might be more important than playing now. The players voted to play 22 games, they're good footballers but not very strategic thinkers. There is no way they were ever going to play 22 games and finals... There is also no way they will be able to keep their current contracts. It's not going to be sustainable. This goes for all in the AFL bubble. SEN may well close up shop, I can't see them making it through a close down (they were reliant on this season to pull them through) and other media outlets/people will suffer. Will FOX keep paying their high priced presenters if nothing is happening, history says no. Club CEO's will take a hit, they will have to...some may retire early. Will Cook and Pert have the energy to rebuild the game. They've done well out of it but will they give back now or move on into retirement. We can kiss goodbye to the training ground/facility but then again what we have may be good enough if we make it through. A lot of the backroom stuff may go back to volunteers and elected officials. Anyway, starting to ramble a bit now. Over...

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs West Coast Eagles
That's good news... ...and as for the debutants it will be the same as playing junior footy for them.. They should be used to no crowds and pumping themselves up.

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs West Coast Eagles
I just wonder about the mental demons that come into play when you have to get on a plane in this crisis. The players have to be having some subconscious thoughts. I hope it doesn't effect game time but I fear it will.

If the season goes that far & we win it I will be ecstatic...some light in a dark year.

You might well be right there 'bin'... ...but a lot of flights have also been cancelled. Virgin will be looking to fly only viable (full) routes.

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
I hope they have chartered a plane to get our boys there & back.... Surely we couldn't be on a commercial flight.

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Still think it favours the it's off narrative...if it was on they would have told us by now. Letting the CEO's who wanted it the reason they can't have it.

Have to tell them why it's off...

They should make a decision and let everybody know otherwise they risk being like formula one. When it gets to this stage nearly 24 hours out then Morrison should have made it for them as he should have F1... Politics is still alive and well.

COVID-19 MFC Crowdfunding
This is where the AFL need to start leading and show the way. Their charter is protect the game and that's not just the first tier competition.

COVID-19 MFC Crowdfunding
The topic is in regard to crowdfunding...sorry to link your post. ...but my point stands. It's time for the club and AFL in particular to get on the front foot.

COVID-19 MFC Crowdfunding
I honestly think the club shouldn't be pushing any fundraising at the moment. Clubs often talk about being family, they should be proactive in helping members & fans through this. By being selfless at this time although it may seem counterintuitive, they can help lead the way in society. The AFL could also get their heads out of their self important a..... and show real community leadership.

COVID-19 MFC Crowdfunding
I think it might be a bit early to call on this. There may be many family members & close friends in need of assistance as this all plays out. In that case the footy club won't be a priority.

I feel for you 'Mel', I have friends in a similar position. I'm not reliant on gig income anymore but will still take a big hit.

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Gone...it's all pretty much shut up shop for now. PS...I know it's not your point 'bin', but a lot of people struggling. The big stars in all fields will be ok but the support players will struggle.

I regard Cam Smith as the most senior playing voice in football in the country. He's not an AFL player but his voice will still be heard. The players will call it off. The AFL should have lead from the front last week.- AFL are a disgrace
My guess is your problem was an over zealous official rather than the AFL 'Rod'.... Not that I'm one to stick up for them, the arrogant bunch of tossers they are. ...but a little bit of misdirected power might have gone to the official in questions head. Luckily the cop had some common sense.- Coronavirus & Other Sports
Probably the most foolish post I've ever seen on this forum... - Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
