What an excellent article. So much to read between the lines to see how far we've come from the nightmare years a few years ago. We now have a coaching staff gun young players want to play under, genuine role models at the club for the new recruits to model their game off, low expectations on young players, and fucken etc. I like Oliver so far. He's exactly who he is no matter who he's talking to. Nice to get a break from all the footy cliches that everyone else busts out about 'the boys' and what not. He also looks pretty good at football which should also help. Etc.

With Fyfe and Hogan in the same team, they wouldn't spend much time out of the finals. Don't expect Hogan to go though.

At this stage of the off-season, I'd go see a Collingwood v GWS exhibition match at Etihad Stadium if they were playing tonight.

Yeah, it's simply that I've seen nothing of Oliver and am far more excited to see the development of the players we already have. We're not hoping for hints of potential anymore, we want to see if any of talented youngsters are ready to make the step and become genuine stars of the comp. Salem, Tyson, Viney, Gawn, Brayshaw, Kent, Hogan are all exciting prospects, with Hogan probably already there.

They're only allowed 40 players on the active playing list at any one time. Effectively they can upgrade a player from outside the list ahead of one of their rookies if they choose to do so. Ridiculous as it sounds.

Doubt we'd want a top-up player that we lose access to at the end of the season anyway. At the same time, losing 12 players to suspension and having a free-hit at 10, giving them access to one more player than Port Adelaide doesn't make a lot of sense either. Collingwood lost Thomas and Keeffe to suspension and Scharenberg for the year with injury, but weren't given a top-up player. Plenty of teams have lost more than 3 players to injury and didn't require a top up player. Sets a strange precedent. If they manage to have 12 of their currently listed players suspended, then it should be a case of "unlucky lads, you're in for a rubbish season." Replacing 10 out of 12 missing players with whoever they like so they can "field a competitive side" is mind-boggling. God damn wine, I was planning on making this a one sentence response.

Smith doesn't cost us a place on the list, he's a Cat B rookie. If he doesn't work out then no harm, no foul.

What's so offensive about "a slight whack"? Getting caught up about a minor aside like that reads to me like someone can't handle anything that's not sunshine and roses about the players. It's such a minor negative, I can't think of how Gorgoroth could have put it much lighter. I put Saty on ignore a long time ago, but it's frustrating seeing all these training threads descend into arguments about the most insignificant of things.

Unlucky, but no issues with him playing a bit of basketball in the backyard, he's done it his whole life. I imagine it's that his feet aren't used to the loads after such a long time off-legs. It's all a learning experience hopefully and doesn't reduce his own confidence to the get the best out of his body.
