Fantastic news for the competition. And it wouldn't completely surprise me if Geelong decides that they've all of a sudden fallen out of love with Jeremy.
-
Not disputing that Old Dee. But if you're selling the club as a destination, and can showcase a whole lot of added extras, it's going to help. The money thrown at Geelong is pretty substantial and that flows to club sponsorship, facilities etc
-
Off field, Geelong benefits greatly by the fact that it's located within an important marginal electorate. It's my understanding that no other club Victorian club receives government funded upgrades to the extent that Geelong does - from both sides of politics, State and Federal. Just one of the little things that helps a club
-
Yeah, that wasn't good

I'm happy for someone to explain it to me but why would we be selling off out first round pick in a 2021 draft that's not anywhere near as compromised as this year's draft. I'm genuinely asking.

Agree with your comments regarding Salem re the mid-field. Are we confident in taking that leap of faith ? Doesn't appear so. Also agree that there's an inflexibility within our mid-field. But do we actually need another 'A grade mid' to fix it? Or just a capable player who also may have a point of difference? Someone with a bit more dynamism who can come into the middle from time to time.

Oliver Rumours on Footy Classified
Return to Glory replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hey Rob, very kind of you to write in a bigger font because you're overseas -
Hunt is a player I've always struggled to get a read on. At times I've thought he's been a real find and on other occasions (as has been pointed out) he just looks ineffectual. I just wonder if he is a someone who hasn't completely applied himself to the challenges of being a professional footballer. Perhaps only he knows. But I'd love to see what his output would be if he adopted the mind-set of Christian Petracca. I think he'd be a revelation. Again, easy for me to make comment from the cheap seats, but he just looks happy to be an AFL player.

Free agency - the rich (clubs) get richer
Return to Glory replied to Hampton 22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Free agency is actually having control over where you go. It's working for the players. Clearly, however, it's certainly not working for the competition. -

Yes Demon3, but there was a point there where Viney gets votes and, if you freeze the tape, Oliver blinks not once but twice. Admittedly, it was three rounds later but you cannot tell me it wasn't a deliberate slight. -

Lol Theo, that's what i think. He said something at one stage like 'that's what I thought i saw' before awarding another Brisbane freekick

I've gone from ambivalent about the result to way too annoyed at the umpiring.
-
The umpiring in this game is close to the worst I've seen in a final. 10 - 2 Brisbane's way but it's beyond these simple numbers. It's Cats being pinged for everything and Lions being let go. How was the call against Ablett for the shot at goal! You cannot tell me that such lopsided umpiring doesn't effect momentum and then result. The Brisbane in GF narrative is surely a compelling one for the AFL

Little Goffy, you really have articulated what I had been wondering about with your 'example two'....unfortunately, when it gets to draft calculations/permutations, it's like a mist descends upon me. What I take from this is that we can grab another Trent Rivers if our recruiters are on song.

Skuit, by all means encourage Viney but I'm not quite sure when the B & F at a footy club became an encouragement award -

Picket, I'm glad someone else said it. I would have had Viney in top ten calculations but third...give me a spell. I know there will be many who will believe it's a small matter. I'm not so sure. -

I have no idea whether or not Oliver is disgruntled. But I have to completely agree with you here AF. That B & F result smacks of our coaches viewing games through some kind of distorted reality. And if the coaches can get something so wrong, I'm in turn worried about their ability to make good decisions. -
Alistair Nicholson resigns as ACA boss
Return to Glory replied to Lord Nev's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd have to agree. Would be very surprised if he took on the role. Wrapped if he did but I wouldn't have thought so. -
Yes, but his wife is big on instagram. If anything, should have been reversed.
-
Well, that settles it. They would know having watched all his games. I get that you don't rate Jack Watts. What I don't get are your desperate attempts to get people to agree with you (which includes 'open your eyes' comments) ...on a Melbourne supporter forum. You asked whether I thought Watts was a good player. Yes, I thought Watts was a good player. At times, he was also a match winner. You can make absurd 'Weideman attacks the ball 100 times harder' statements but that just reinforces that you don't know what you're talking about. I'm not even sure why you thought to bring another player into it.
-
Sorry Dr D, I was just hanging my Jack Watts collage on the wall. What are you rambling on about this time?
