  1. Is this not just an example of sunken cost fallacy? He's had a limited pre-season and his form has been poor in all games and at all levels this year. Feels like he's being gifted games because he was a high pick and hoping that he will show something, not at all based on form. Even if they're not quite right, it must be disheartening for players like Laurie, Woewodin and Billings who can't get a look in despite playing infinitely better and with more consistency at Casey. I actually think Tholstrup will be a decent player for us, but clearly he needs more fitness via a proper pre-season. Don't think we're doing his development any favours by playing him in the seniors at the moment. I'd let him play out the year at Casey unless he starts smashing the door down.
  2. Toby Sinnema and Kalani White playing in their respective U18 state championship games tomorrow for those interested.
  3. I'd leave Jeffo in for next week. He competes aerially and follows up at ground level at an ok level for a skinny 3rd year player. Having him as a solo key forward with limited rotations did him no favours. Pair him with JvR next week at the bare minimum. I'm more concerned about Sparrow having one touch to half time, Langdon turning to water with nearly any disposal, the deterioration of May and the numerous injury concerns we copped throughout the game. Not to mention the overall skill level of our senior players. It's a shame none of our Casey players really stood up except for Billings. I also think we need to seriously look at if our main training session 2 days from gameday is contributing to our poor performance in any way. If I'm not mistaken we always used to have it 3 days out and I believe most other clubs have it 3 days out also.
  4. 6 Melksham 5 Pickett 4 Bowey 3 Turner 2 Petracca 1 Viney, if nothing else other than being the only one that gave a damn about our jumper and got us going in the second.
  5. Glad to hear this. Shouldn't cost us more than a 4th round pick or a player like Laurie who the Giants liked in his draft year.
  6. I don't hate the changes. Would have liked to have seen JvR retain his spot and bring in Jeffo alongside him. It's going to be a big ask for Jeffo to be a solo key forward when presumably Petty goes into the ruck and Gawn is having a spell. JvR must be getting frustrated with being yoyo'd in and out of the team. Sharp had a poor game in the twos and Tholstrup didn't play after being dropped so finding it strange that they refuse to reward Laurie who's been in the bests nearly every week. Would have had Laurie and Tholstrup in with Tholstrup as sub. Alas, hopefully we match their run and provide some good opportunities for our forwards. A good day of Saturday footy watching regardless. Hopefully.
  7. Laurie after being overlooked yet again for two players in poor form.
  8. Cats do seem to be able to keep this sort of stuff under wraps. I was under the impression there was another Cat that is possibly in a fair bit of trouble that hasn't received much media attention.
  9. Our season is so dead that we'll need formaldehyde to keep up appearances.
  10. Improved our ladder position by one spot. Maybe we should have the bye every week?
  11. When McRae took over the pies he had a demands for his ideal playing list. This included making some big decisions on fan favourites including paying out contracts and accepting "unders" in trade compensation for both Treloar and Grundy. Can't help but feel we may be fast approaching the need to take a similar approach to re-set and rebalance the list. The trick is finding suitors, keeping enough talent on the list to continue challanging and acquiring our desired players. We don't have the luxury of a Daicos walking into our list.
  12. FFS We are our own worst enemy. FYI there was a port player that crossed the mark that should have put Petty directly in front.
  13. Our delivery inside 50 is insanely poor. And our game plan of kicking it to Ratugolea needs to go in the bin. Dumb football. It's going to be a long bye week.
  14. Not sure our pressure is where it needs to be and again our decision making going inside 50 continues to hurt us.
  15. From the team sheets online it looks like he'll be sporting #50
  16. No sub rule in the VFL. I believe the 23rd spot usually goes to U18s players or players from local leagues. Essendon also have an NGA player named for them this weekend in Adam Sweid.
  17. Has been named to play for Casey tomorrow night as the 23rd player.
  18. Fantastic news. Kozzie is a star for our club both on and off the field and worth every penny. While it's currently the biggest AFL deal, I think in the next two years or so we're going to see even larger contracts and people will quickly forget, or stop caring about, the renumeration terms for kozzie. It wasn't long ago it was being touted that H. Reid may receive 10yr $20m offers. TDK and NWM allegedly in the $1.4-$1.5 range per year. It's a new landscape with the increasing TPP and as an AFL.com article mentioned in will also be the new normal for clubs to have at least 3 players on $1mil plus each year. More than happy for Kozzie to be one of ours.
  19. Actually insane. I don't think I've ever seen slipped tackles sanctioned before. Yet Hardwicks deliberate grab of Kozzies ankle as he was running into a certain goal didn't get cited. As pointless as it is I kinda hope we appeal and highlight the ridiculous nature of the charge.
  20. Just what I would consider but not expecting this to be the actual changes/set-up. Out: Lindsay, Langford In: Viney, Laurie FB: McVee May Lever HB: Bowey Turner Salem C: Langdon Oliver Windsor HF: Chandler Petty Sparrow FF: Pickett JvR Fritsch R: Gawn Petracca Rivers I: Melksham Viney Laurie Howes S: Tholstrup Love both Langford and Lindsay and they will both be critical parts of our team moving forward. However it's a long year and it looks like they're starting to tire after nearly 3 months of senior footy. I know the bye is after the next game but feel they could benefit from a break now. Tholstrup had a good first half but only had two touches in the entire second half. Like the energy he brings but not sure he's ready to run out full games yet after an interrupted pre-season. Should have a good impact coming on as sub. I didn't mind the move of Windsor to half back to start the year but feel it's not a move that's working for us. Howes coming into the back half allows Windsor to be released back to the wing where he can be more damaging. Langdon has been playing well as a high half forward line and evidently a tagger is part of his kit as well. Would like him to move back to a wing to fill the absent spots created by Lindsay and Langford's omission. Either that or we consider bring Billings in for that role who has good form at Casey. I'd prefer Langdon though. Viney (if fit and able) back to his tagging role on ball and Laurie to play as a high half forward. Jefferson on the cusp but surely we don't throw JvR out again after one week.
  21. Good shout. He didn't look right all game with that shoulder. The club obviously rate Kolt highly and he does bring some forward half pressure so wouldn't surprise to see him back in.
  22. Posted in the Casey thread but probably belongs here. For mine the senior changes looks like Out: Johnson, Laurie In: JvR/Jefferson, Culley Emergcencies: JvR/Jefferson, Howes, Tholstrup Don't think we need an extra defender in Howes. We'll probably keep the two key forward structure with one of JvR or Jefferson. Tholstrup had an improved game against a meek Sydney but don't think he's done anywhere near enough for a promotion. Laurie's time at the dees is all but done it appears. Feel for him because he only got a 20min chance in one of our teams worst efforts of the year. Hard to see him being back in selectors thoughts though, particularly when Viney and Spargo return.
  23. Strange that it's less than 24hours before a game. We'll have a pretty good idea on teams anyway by the time Casey play Collingwood tomorrow night.
  24. We are one of 6 clubs to have met with the 196cm prospect who has been overseas playing basketball but was once a part of the Western Jets program. Apparently viewed as an athletic defender with good skills. College basketballer meets with six clubs as AFL chance looms
