  1. Main thing I learned from this game is that GWS are flush with talent that we should try and pick off. Aleer, Derkson, Gruzewski, Leake, Angove, Wardius, Angwin, Oliver, Ough, Gothard. These players will struggle to get into the senior team and a couple could be more than useful for us. Edit: added Leake
  2. 6: Pickett 5: Gawn 4: Bowey 3: Petty 2: Viney 1: McDonald
  3. Langford will be a pure inside mid with some time resting forward as an aerial threat. Lindsay will be an inside/outside midfielder, has more versatility and can play wing and half back. His u18 year as a centre square mid was outstanding. Tholstrup I see as a hybrid mid/half forward. I'm not convinced Windsor will be a centre square player but will be an elite winger in my view.
  4. Will be a very strong Casey forward line. Also looking forward to seeing Leek Aleer, Wade Derkson, James Leake and Phoenix Gothard from the Giants.
  5. Well earned club debut, good luck tom.
  6. On the plus side Casey's VFL team will feature JvR, Jefferson, Fritsch and Johnson (Rd 1 afl forward line). The first 3 in particular I like for the senior team in the not too distant future, the more they play together the better.
  7. I don't pretend to know better than the FD, but would have liked to have seen; JvR not to be punished after being set up for failure with selection last week, Jefferson in, Tholstrup to return via vfl after a long lay off with injury, Sharp out with Sparrow on cusp of demotion as well. I love melksham and the delivery he provides, but think we need to move forward from a 33yr old low possesion player that shouldn't be part of our plans from next year onwards. Provides much needed leadership though so perhaps is required. Fritsch looked better last week so bit surprised by his dropping but not necessarily unhappy with it. Looking forward to the imminent return of McVee if all goes well at VFL level.
  8. Pickett + another?
  9. Cody Curtin, Liam Hetherton and Louis Emmett are other key forwards to keep an eye on if we go down that path.
  10. You would've thought we would learn after losing Bedford and Jordon due to this. Not that they are world beaters, but thats 2 x, what would easily be now, best 22 players we allegedly wanted to keep gone due to poor selection decisions. Now it sounds like we have disgruntled senior and fringe players with a potential exodus on our hands. Can't exactly see too many people rushing to join our club either. How could this be managed so poorly?
  11. He was AA in the u16s as a top ager. Featured in the first u18 allies championship game as a bottom ager in last year but didn't play any more games. Hope he has a ripper year and chooses us, I just don't think its a certainty yet.
  12. It is. Just think some people need to rein in their expectations. There's a decent chance he doesn't end up on any AFL list.
  13. Being in the AIS squad is a good start but the kid still has a lot to prove to earn a spot on an AFL list. Early days but I'm not convinced yet.
  14. Slightly alternative line-up I wouldn't mind seeing but definitelywon't happen. FB: Bowey May McDonald HB: Salem Turner Lindsay C: Langdon Oliver Windsor HF: Chandler JvR Spargo FF: Pickett Jefferson Fritsch R: Gawn Petracca Rivers I: Viney Petty Sestan Laurie S: Billings (or Brown) Sestan debut and plays a role as a defender. Lindsay to play predominantly half back, excellent user, good defensive qualities and competitiveness, releases Windsor back to the wing witha license to take the game on. Turner to return to the backline where I think he's better suited. Can learn with May and McDonald. Might be a controversial move but I'd put Petty forward. Low bar but looks our best marking target and link up player in the brief time he's gone ahead of the ball. Bonus is he can swing back if required or not working. Laurie full game, give him 5 in a row and actually see if he's worth further time. If after that he's no good, look to trade or demote to rookie list at the end of the season (is this still allowed?) Melksham, Henderson, Sharp and Sparrow dropped. Following week McVee and Tholstrup come in.
  15. West Coast could have picks 1 and 2 this year if Allen goes. Would suit us best to request a trade there in that case. Or perhaps we could float our future 1st plus kozzie for Harley Reid. Might be appealing to them now with us looking like a bottom 4 side. Freo will have a late pick most likely and none of their Victorian players seem keen to come home. Maybe we can see if Murphy Reid would be interested but he's locked into their team now so doubt that happens.
  16. Goodwin stating he's more likely to back the senior players in to turn their form around than make changes to the team.
  17. I just want at least 2 of Jefferson/Turner/Fullarton/Johnson playing. JvR should never be a solo fwd and expected to chop out in the ruck.
  18. 6: Langdon 5: Bowey 4: Gawn 3: Petracca 2: Pickett 1: Viney
  19. JvR being set up for failure. Langdon can hold his head up high. This season has quickly devolved from me being hopefully of a win in most games we play to just being interested in the young players development. Sad.
  20. Our stoppage set ups are so poor. Essendon always have a free player unaccounted for and our players seem complacent being second to the ball. Shame they can't put pressure on either when the bombers inevitably win possession. Still baffled about our lack of tall forwards when players continually bomb it deep to our small forwards. The double grabbing and interrupting our team-mates possession is still rife. A team thats lacking direction and confidence.
  21. Assuming we don't make many changes to the senior team next week, Casey is going to look incredibly strong. Forward line of Fullarton, Turner and Jefferson. Tholstrup back for a mid/fwd role and perhaps McVee to get minutes as well if not immediately put into the seniors. Tholstrup and McVee will make their way into the seniors fairly quickly I would think.
  22. Sounds ominous.
  23. So we're going in with only one tall forward in JvR who is horribly out of form and low on confidence? Turner in and out of the team. Fullarton not rewarded for 10 goals in 3 games and improved contested work. I don't normally bemoan team selections but this is strange. Not to mention multiple mids/fwds horribly out of form and yet don't seem to be at risk of being dropped.
  24. You thinking it was a pure bred dog? Our medical team might have to worry about managing chronic hip and elbow issues.
