Certainly not what we needed. Really disappointed for Colin and Im sure he will be shattered with missing the first few games. On the positive it could have been worse.

Great to hear that Sheahan, Strauss and Viney are doing well. How is Gysberts and Morton going?
-
Blease will start in the second half

It was a big miss to not pick up Hall in last years draft. Both Hall and Omeara were outstanding and shone above GC's other high draft picks. I remember last year discussing with my family that both priority picks were overs for the number 1 pick in the mini draft. Today I admit I was wrong, the kid will be a star and we should have thrown a player in to get the deal across the line.

Agree 100%

I am a massive Watts fan and agree that last night he was not at his best. He may never be the a crash and bash CHF however with Clark & Martin/Sellar/T Mac taking the two biggest defenders, Watts should be able to dominate a few games this season. With better disposal into the F50, Watts will be able to use his pace to be our leading target and play to his strengths. Watts will have a massive year!

WOG for me yesterday. Smashed by Hall in his first game. Until he can consistently 'get in the game' he should be at Casey. Even his disposal last night was poor.
-
Loved his game last night. His 1%'s, blocks and tackle were outstanding. My two favourite moments were the the two bumps on K. Hunt & J Brown. Barring an injury i think he is a lock for Round 1. Really looking forward to seeing him repeat his efforts against the Pies A grade midfield next week

I would be happy to trade either/both for Gaff. However I think by the end of this year Morton will be firmly in our best 22.
-
I actually dont mind the idea of Green starting on a HBF or a wing. If our new game plan is to short kick out of defence then long to big targets, then it makes sense to have green down back. Perhaps Green can play the quarterback role that Davey was unsuccessful at last year.
-
Gaff is definitely worth both compo picks however it would be a steal if we could get away with one plus Bennell. That would leave us with one to use in the draft or the GWS mini draft
-
I would definitely trade both compo picks for pick one in GWS mini draft. Ideally (although highly unlikely) trade 1 and a player for the mini draft (pick2) and the other & our 2nd round pick for Gaff. Imagine having JV & Gaff supplement our midfield in 2013 and another gun midfielder in 2014

It would be great to see him make it. He was awesome in the Essendon game last year. The difference between his best and worst is massive and I am hoping that MFC is past that level of inconsistency in 2012. IMO he will not make it.
-
Anything is possible however based on last season he would be on thin ice It is fair to assume that Bartram is a lock initially as the small defender. With Grimes back into the back 6, there will be a lot of competition for the last defender role. I dont have confidence that this year will be any different particularly with Neeld's preference for larger bodies.
-
To be fair, Morton didnt play many consistent games in 2011 however he did do some good things in most games in played. We desperately need a quality outside midfielder and Morton IMO has the tools to be in our starting 18. I am not saying he deserves to start round 1 on 2011 performances however if he builds confidence he could surprise. As I said if he plays regular games under Neeld, I believe we will play finals. Morton is the type of player we need to be firing on all cylinders.

If Morton is a regular member of the starting 18, I am confident that we will play finals. Morton has massive upside and when he is 'on' he is very damaging. His height, speed and endurance will be hard to match up on the wing.

Thanks to all for the reports. I also admit that I cant wait for the regular updates during the week. For those that have been attending training is Sellar a chance to start round 1? -

2011 Player Review - # 48 Jack Fitzpatrick
sydneydee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jack needs to continue his development. Living in Sydney I haven't had the opportunity to watch him live however I am interested in seeing how he goes in 2012. He has height and pace and could be a very good talent once he starts to mature. Could be a very difficult match up in a few years time. -
With Mitch Clark now coming to Melbourne what would be everyone's thoughts on trading Jamar whilst he has currency. Do Melb need 6 ruckman? Would you trade Jamar for a Dangerfield? Could be a win:win for both club and player.

I agree with the above We need more mids to get to the next level and Caddy would be a great fit at Melbourne. He could rotate with Sylvia through the mid and HFF. We need to make a play at the right price. The only other suggestion would be a straight swap for Petterd. Like for like. Get the deal done

I think this has merit, as much as I love the passion of the Russian, if he wanted to go back to SA, then we could trade him for the right player. Not sure where Spencer is out so we may need to rookie another development ruck man. I am genuinely excited by Gawn and hope he get the change to play some games next year.
-
I also would be very happy for us to target Crouch over O'Meara at the right price. Personally I dont want Melb to give up both priority picks this year. As I would like to keep one up our sleave for next years auction. Giving up 3 1st round picks as some have suggested is too big a risk as a lot can change in 12 months. For three 1st round picks can should be targeting a proven star not 17 yo that cant play for another 18 months. I understand that GWS want picks but if we could get Crouch for one priority pick plus a player (Davey) then that would be a win. It would mean next year we would have Viney/Crouch and another round 1 pick which would really strengthen our midfield. We can then use pick 12 and/or a player to target an established star midfielder during trade week. It will be exciting to see what happens next week with the mini draft I just hope we are considered with what we offer.
