Burgess reveals secret to Dees' incredible injury-free run
I recommend that everyone have a listen to this episode in the podcast. It's basically Burgos story about his time at the Dee's. So much more than what is covered in the article.

2021 Phantom Draft
If Andrew is available at 17 I would say [censored] it and gamble that he lasts till 20. Pick up another good kid and then match on Andrew. The only reason I was big on getting Andrew earlier in the year is because we didn't have a first round pick and would be able to match a bid after 20. I would prefer to pick up a mid or KPF with pick 17.

Will a team improve enough to challenge us next year?
Honestly? I wasn't nervous. We had finished strongly all year. We were in front. They were throwing everything at us and all they could do was slowly cut down our lead. How many times this year did we build a lead and then absorb the opposition momentum when we knew it would come?

Doesn't pass the 'no d!(khead policy'. Absolute [censored] apparently.

Campbell Brown new TMZ reporter
I listened to the original story from Campbell Brown on Jonathan Browns new podcast. Sounds like the Bulldogs players really rubbed in the loss in round 19. The rest of it has been covered well in the thread but this part interested me. Campbell Brown from the podcast: "Melbourne and the Doggies played in Round 19 here at the MCG and apparently the Doggies touched them up a bit. Beat em convincingly. It was raining and it got a bit heated, it got a bit personal and after the dogs won, they absolutely gave it to some players from Melbourne and um, they were abusing them and really let them know, you know, what they thought of 'em. Some of these players had played in flags for the Doggies and they were giving it to Melbourne players and the Melbourne players didn't necessary like it too much. Then when they played em in the Grand Final (obviously you know, we know the result there), the one thing that really sparked the Melbourne players was the song that the Doggies played after the Prelim win in the change rooms that got filmed. (Freed from Desire) So, it gave them added motivation, right? There's already animosity there." "So anyway, after the game when Melbourne won it, they played some songs in the change room but then they went out to the middle of Optus stadium and they linked up and sung the Melbourne Theme Song" "Then they played 'Free from Desire' right, and there were a lot of people, like 'Was that in bad taste? Was there something more to it? Or is it just an anthem that people play? Well, they did it to stick it up them"

2021 Player Reviews: #16 Bailey Laurie
It means he has played bugger all footy for 2 years now. A year in the system will do him well though.

The Deakin Pereira Thread

The Trade in Draft Picks
Back to the OP. Collingwood have pick 27 (703 points) which is reportedly on the table. Tim Lamb advised during trade week interviews that we would be aiming to move up the draft order as high as we could. We could be on here. I would be pretty happy if we could snare this pick. We currently have: 17 - 1025 Points 37 - 483 points 49 - 287 points 57 - 182 points 94 - 0 points We could look at trading pick 37, 49 and 57 (952 points) for pick 27 (703 Points). Pies have a few late picks not worth anything that we may have to take if the rules about not stacking picks for points apply still but could use one on a smokey/Woey and pass on the other. Without investigating too much further, I imagine another club might be able to trump us in points but I wouldnt be surprised if this happens.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
I would argue that we need a developing tall forward more than a ruck but I would like to get 1 of each. You can always pick up a component ruck at trade time if we need decent depth later on.

Who takes the number 2
You don't retire the number 2. Troy's number 20 was put away for a few years which I was happy with.

AFL Trade Period
I will probably be in the minority here, but I'm not sold on Jackson becoming the number 1 ruck post Gawn. He is such a versatile weapon as 2nd string. He was clunking his marks up forward with more confidence in a few games late in the season. I'm hoping he stays as a utility and we develop/trade another number 1 ruck for when Gawny finally steps down with his 5 premierships.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Roos was given a bunch of highlights from Jason Taylor in the lead up to the draft. Roos watched the Oliver highlights and didn't bother watching the rest. He went back to Jason Taylor and said "He is the one. If there is anyone better than that then pick them" I've heard that story before, but recently heard it again on a podcast that Real Footy (the age) put out prior to the Grand Final which had an episode focusing on Oliver. Worth a listen.

3 More Years for Chris Scott
The cliff is referred to a few times in this thread and with good reason. They will try again next year. No matter the level of their success, they will have no choice but to rebuild at the end of 2022. How are they going to do it? Each year any club will have a few young players who haven't made the grade and need to be cut. You simply know they won't make it. Combine this with the list BoBo provided in the quoted post and you have a serious problem. They won't me able to shed that many players that quickly otherwise they will be topping up with NQR delisted players from other clubs or delving into the deepest parts of the draft. It will take 3 to 4 years. It will then take the players they have drafted at least 4 more to be a force. They are in for a world of pain. Free agency may be their only savior.

The 'Afterpay' Kings
Even if other clubs do they same thing we win. At some point (possibly the next few years) we will get to the point that we will avoid the draft. Hopefully other teams adopt out strategies and are eager to give up future firsts. We oblige them and reverse the formula. We take 2 first rounders but delay it a year. Hopefully we have got a few more flags to our name by this point. We may be able to top up with free agents or trade 2nd round picks for role players during the years we forgo a first rounder.

Saturday Morning on Demonland (1)
Full respect. My only hope that day was radio and even that let me down due to reception issues. I missed the entire thing. The outpouring of grief and embarrassment of what had happened to this club on this forum was enough for me. I realised that I had dodged a shocking memory that I would have hated to have.

Apologies to Premiership Players
ANBs form in 2019 was truly horrific and I'm not going to apologise for thinking that he was done. Even the club asked him to look elsewhere (and there were no options). Some of those fumbles are still etched into my brain. However, I will 100% praise him for how he has turned it around. Truly incredible. More so than Tmac in my opinion as you could see Tmac was struggling to get right from injuries.

Saturday Morning on Demonland (1)
Round 19. We had 7 wins a draw and 9 loses (2 byes that year) at this point. We were tracking pretty well considering the year's we had just had. I was travelling that day and knew I would miss most of the game due to loss of radio signal. I listened to pre game commentary on ABC radio praising us for seemingly being on the right course. Our rebuild was tracking well. I lost reception. I tuned in later on thinking I might catch the last minutes of the game. All I heard was Gerald Whately saying "Geelong has beaten the Demons by 186 points and there is only one question. Will they sack the coach now or later in the week" I was gobsmacked. I avoided all replays and my only other recollections are the picture of the scoreboard that pops up now and then and a memory that some Demonlanders said that Jordie McKenzie 'tried hard' as the only positive.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
If another club bids on him using pick 1-20 then we are not allowed to match the bid. He will go to that club. We won't have a say in it at all.

Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan
I wouldn't be surprised to see him line up in the best 22 in the early rounds. We will be starting preseason much later than the other teams. Viney and Oliver are always carrying niggles. Hopefully this allows them a proper break as well as a proper length preseason before playing. That might mean they came back a few rounds in.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Tim Lamb: "Hey Jase, pick 17 this year or our first round pick next year?" Jason Taylor: "17" Tim Lamb: "Done" All I need to know.

Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan
Gotta say.. I'm surprised. I've always liked him, but we have a heap of players who are forced out of their natural position because we are stacked for his type. I have mentioned a few times that we have no one as an inside mid for Casey anymore. I'm really surprised he chose us over other clubs which would have given him more games in the seniors.Maybe we were the only Vic club on offer and he didn't want to move. Regardless. Welcome Luke!

Welcome to Demonland: Luke Dunstan
What? No. Can't see the logic here at all.

So...what do we need to achieve during this trade & draft period?
The rules have changed regarding the NGA players. If another club bids on Mac Andrew in the first 20 picks we are unable to match the bid. Speculation is that he will be a top 10 pick. So it won't matter if we have points to match or not.

Jake Melksham
He would have been over 200 and probably 100 for the club if not for the year off due to the drugs saga.
