  1. Wow, so much handwringing with Jefferson in a back pocket for a practise match in the VFL! It's common for forwards to play some time as backs to see leading patterns etc. Also consider: BBB and Fullerton are more likely to get a senior call up before Jefferson, possibly even this week against the dogs, they probably got priority as forwards for this match so we can see them as an option for round 1. Verral and KFW had the ruck duties, and TMac is playing as a back this year, that is where he trained all year, why would that be a surprise. Breathe people, you're gonna pop a blood vessel before round 4!!!
  2. Agree, plus it's in a residential area, it has covenants for for noise, light and how long an event is allowed to run for, no options for public transport. Tas Cricket has already announced that they plan to exit the ground as well. Suburban grounds don't make good stadiums. A stadium needs to be close to the heart of the city.
  3. Closed roof, no issue. Dark MOFO game between devils and demons would be a great thing.
  4. Not only do they not have a clue, the leader has all but said that the 18 club chairs have no say over this, and it's between the govt and the AFL. There is only one party that has a clear position here with a handful of independents that are being really clear, Greens think that it can be based in Launceston, Labor is a hot mess, Jacqui Lambie is worse than a hot mess.
  5. People saying he was limping at the airport, tbh it felt like he was proppy most of the night. It was an interesting selection call moreso because I feel like he, Billings, Laurie & Spargo feel like they should be fighting it out for 2-3 places in our team, not taking up 4 by themselves. Kozzie, McAdam (and hopefully Melk when fit) offer significant points of difference here. This isn't a slight on the players above, just they play I don't see how they all fit.
  6. If he's not ready, you don't take him as one of the three emergencies for the game last night. He hasn't probably had match practise to the level we had hoped, but he should be ready to play.
  7. Hmmm, understudy? 2 Copelands, 2 AA jumpers, yeah this guy is a complete novice! I don't know if Grundy's tactic at the centre bounce is a good look for the game, I thought that they had to stay on the other side of their line until the ball had been bounced, he was running at the player and not even looking at the ball at times. But he played ok, Gawn was ok too. I don't like the hits behind play Gawn still gets without penalty. People need to get a grip, one game in basically tropical conditions. We looked better in the first half than Sydney, yet couldn't score, they can address that through the week. We looked less competitive I thought after half time, yet we kicked 3 goals, and only trailed by 2 points. Ran out of steam in the last. Windsor looked good, Howes looked good after a couple of shaky possessions. Not a night for tall forwards on either side. but both sides struggled to score fluently until Sydney had that patch in the last.
  8. aaaaand there is the MFCSS! Thanks 🤨
  9. I am not sure Brown or Fullerton are likely to be named as the sub, I could be wrong, but aren't the AFL rules slightly different now that we name up all 5 on the bench as part of the full team 23. Which is a little different than last year where clubs name 4, then announce the sub on the day from outside the squad. Thanks to Champion Data! :) If either of these were being named then it's likely that they would have been announced at training as well with the squad you would have thought. So my guess is that the 23rd player will be from the existing 2023 squad as such.
  10. are you saying Howes has bought your mood down? poor kid!
  11. Far more likely we would have kept James Jordon IMO
  12. Can we request Maynard to be dressed in sackcloth and walked through the streets whilst people throw fruit at him and hurl abuse?
  13. Lets see if Collingwoods media team kicks another own goal and lets Maynard attempt to wish Brayshaw all the best. After the netball repurposing, it's certainly something that they are stupid enough to do. ..... Seriously though, if he comes out to say anything publicly, I'll do my nut.
  14. Yep, I think it was more that modelling was done in regards to the business case (I actually think Clarko went over to explore models) some of the comparisons were size of city, stadium, membership models, etc. Again, Jack Jumpers, have full membership, capacity crowd (only admittedly around 5k seated I think) but that is better optics than a half empty stadium. That said, they are now working to increase capacity on a sustained level. Tassie 'Devils' team, 23k for a stadium, but both stadium models have capacity to go up to 30k, and one of them to 40k (I think) . If that is full most weeks, and for a closed roof stadium, it's going to be a better experience live, but also on TV too.
  15. Yep, totally agree, however I think we are also starting to see more participants across a lot of sports coming from these migrant societies too, which is pretty exciting too.
  16. If I read this correctly, you just have to have the last word on this matter because you don't value other people's thoughts as being valuable contributions on this thread? Gonna be really curious to see if you have to respond to this or not 🤐
  17. Both populations are a bit higher now, especially when you look at both Greater Hobart Population (260k) and Greater Geelong (276k) The whole of Tas will get behind the team, but in terms of immediate population, I know what you mean, but in terms of access to feeder/talent pathways, I'm going to assume that for a few years, Tasmania will have first rights to the local talent similar to the northern states. But as a traditional football state I don't think that it would last all that long.
  18. Personally, as a Tasmanian, I'm not super enthused by the design above. But in terms of history and tradition, it's akin to the Big V for Victorians. Tassie played as the Devils in the VFL, and our junior teams have been the Devils in the Coates League, national champs, etc.... It's probably a little lazy, but it's incredibly popular and nostalgia attached. I am almost 100% sure that a green jumper will be used, and likely to have yellow and red incorporated into it as well. Not sure I want the map or not though....
  19. Yep, it's almost identical to Geelong, and the business case for the team focused on a similar model to Geelong, also the Green Bay Packers in the US. Whilst the move to the GC hasn't been a successful one in terms of playing finals etc, the talent pathways, junior development etc looks to have been exceptionally strong. I don't know about Sydney so much. Tassie is a football heartland, but it's been left to fend for itself for a long time, I have no doubt the talent is here, it's about getting pathways built so that the team isn't seen to be draining talent from outside of its pathways. Plus a restructuring of the competitions that feed the AFL/AFLW team It's still very useful to see how the Jack Jumpers have been successful here in Tassie, since their inception, 43% increase in club participation, you cannot get tickets for home games (three seasons in, every home game is completely sold out.) There is also a noted shortage of courts available to meet the needs of all of the competitions across the state. In terms of pathway development Tassie has 3 of the highest-rated players at the national under20s this year in Jacob Furphy, Lachlan Brewer, and Kye Savage.) Once the NIMBY's in Tasmania who are still opposed to a stadium, and the building of a high-performance centre get silenced, hopefully, Tas will be able to show that it can compete, but more importantly, can produce talent pathways that make it sustainable. The Tassie Devils were the minor premiers in the Coates league last year, and there were a respectable number of players drafted, including 3 in the first round of the draft. Figures for the AFLW are not dissimilar I don't believe.
  20. The difference in population between 2012 (22.9million) when the Giants came into the system, and 2028 (29.0million) which is when the Tassie side comes in.... increase of 6.1 million people or 26% increase in population. ... pretty sure Australia has the population to support another 40 men and women players.
  21. Bit harsh... why exactly is Reiwoldt a DH? Speaks his mind and has articulate in the media, is doing really positive work for the new Tassie team going around grassroots clubs, listening to them, getting their ideas and collating for the taskforce. Was a very good player to boot. If he played for the dees, you would call him a club legend. *PS* your analogy of JVR is not far off though, although JVR looks a lot stronger and broader across the shoulders.
  22. No, I was doing the exact opposite! I was responding to Demonsone who was the one complaining about how the AFL is throwing cash at Tassie's base. Only thing I'll admit to saying is that I don't think previous administrations haven't been that great at prioritising our home base, but thats not exactly a contentious comment. I also didn't bemoan anything about lack of funding. You need to read comments, context and WHO actually wrote the words before blowing up. 🙄
  23. Umm, who's whinging? I have no idea what you are even talking about?
  24. Billings, Blake Howes, Taj Woewodin, Bailey Laurie... we could even look to push Salem higher if needed. We have ample coverage.
  25. Possibly true, however to put a headline about what appears to be a very minor calf strain to Lachie Hunter... just is a beat up. I wonder if the media got confused with Jaiden Hunter from the Bombers doing his ACL, that type of injury would justify the headline. Not a calf, and one at that which still has him training this morning without that much discomfort according to the track watchers.
