The state govt hasn't even announced design pictures, and the alternative https://www.stadiaprecinct.com/ isn't an eyesore. You are calling the port a picturesque old world environment? it's reclaimed land. Re young players, the AFLPA has already done surveys of male and female players, and there were no issues with people wanting to live here. For someone who 'does a lot of business' here you seem to have a pretty negative view of the state.

Pretty passionate about this event today! It's a massive day for football. First expansion club in a football state since 1997. Really hope politics just gets out of the way and this is a celebration of football, and what Tasmania has provided to AFL football. Also a little bit biased here as my daughter is working with AFL Tas, and a team gives her and others like her a great opportunity to be a part of! :) Brisbane Council are on the verge of announcing a 3.4 Billion dollar stadium, and they are looking to effectively destroy the Gabba. This after they deemed the Gabba upgrade at 2.7 Billion too expensive!!!! Tas Gov (not a council!) are putting forward 375Million. The stadium just needs to happen, in the heart of the capital city. Not a suburban ground upgrade of Bellerive, not in Launceston for centrality reasons (in a city of less than 72,000!) There are almost 300k who live in the Sth of Tasmania! This is something to be celebrated. Tassie provided the Dees with these players (From our own website) Dale Anderson, Charlie Barnes, Ben Beams, Lloyd Bennett, Ray Biffin, Adrian Bowden, Claude Bryan, Noel Clarke, Cameron Clayton, John Clennett, James Cook, Brent Crosswell, Cec Cumberland, Harden Dean, Col Deane, Matthew Febey, Steven Febey, John Forster, Colin Garland, Bob Gormly, David Grant, Brad Green, Ray Groom, John Hamilton, Peter Hamilton, Jeremy Howe, Graham Hunnibell, Colin Jackson, R ‘Tassie’ Johnson, Peter Johnston, Andrew Lamprill, Noel Leary, Harry Long, Andy Lovell, Peter ‘Trunky’ Marquis, Tony Martyn, Lew Massey, Fred McGinis, Len Norman, Alf Oldham, Terry Peirce, Kerry Rattray, Michael Reynolds, Russell Robertson, Michael Seddon, Ike Sellers, Jamie Shanahan, Scott Sutcliffe, Tony Thiessen, Max Walker, Athol Webb, Geoff Whitton, Grant Williams, Mark Withers, Michael Young. Plus Neitz and Lyon were born in Tassie so gonna claim them here too! :P But thats just our great club. There are more stars that had fantastic careers elsewhere Alastair Lynch, Matthew Richardson, Nick and Jack Reiwoldt, Brendon Gale, Rodney Eade, Darren Pritchard, Paul and Peter Hudson, Darrell Baldock, Ian Stewart, Doug Barwick, Paul Williams, Royce Hart, John Devine, Paul Sproule, Michael Roach. For people who say we don't deserve a side, think of how poorer this great game that we all love would be if you didn't have these players making it the game you love so much! 4 AFL legends, many many more hall of famers. Some of the best players to ever play the game of AFL came from Tasmania!!!

Might have gotten off if he didn't kick him on the way through, thats just dumb.

Gonna agree with Kane Cornes about Aaron Naughton, used to be seen as the next big thing, he's a massive NAUGHT. They gave him an 8 year contract. Sam Darcy kicked 5 in the VFL team, and I don't think Lobb was horrible, but if they don't move Naughton to CHB, he's not going to look like a great investment. Dogs would be better trying to make him like Darcy Moore.

Salem good, not great. Sparrow was very good v Carlton a couple of weeks back, and having Petracca, Viney and Clarry performing, gives him some time, needs to lift though. JVR competed in the ruck even though undersized. So much more competitive than Schache.

I was wrong about TMac,... thought he was slow, just think it's slow to turn, so having him down back isn't too bad, and was good by foot.

Like... health, cost of living and the things that are issues everywhere that all State govts are managing so well? :) It will come down to that too, but the biggest thing in this election is the increase of the house from 25 to 35 members, and the fact that it's more likely than not to be a minority govt.

Correct, the ALP are being shown up as being even less 'transparent' than the govt on this, given that they are accusing of being the same in regards to the deal with the AFL. GWS and GC both had stadium upgrades being a component of coming into the league, this is no difference other than not being an AFL owned venture. Bec White 'claims' to have already opened dialogue with the AFL about not putting a stadium in place. Andrew Dillon has come out and said words to the effect that no conversation with the AFL has commenced with her to his knowledge and nothing has changed. She also believes that the 18 clubs have no say on the re-negotiations she has put on the table with the AFL. Bec White also at the previous election campaigned that if they got in, they would build a brand new 15000 seat stadium in Tasmania for Soccer, Rugby Union and Rugby League. Of which NONE of the sports have a national team from Tasmania. it's just pure hypocrisy. This is her third attempt to win a state election as the opposition leader, rumours are very strong that Labor expect to lose, and can't wait to boot her out so that a new leader (likely who will support a stadium) can take over. The former leader David O'Byrne is running as an independent and is pro stadium. The labor party could have potentially won this election if they hadn't played wedge politics on this issue. Tas Liberal Government for all the faults, has come out and said that it doesn't want the launch of the team this week to be a political football, and has asked all of the liberal candidates to not attend the launch and let it be about the launch of the team, and the fans, and the people.... and of course Bec White is absolutely wanting it to be political, and is attending and no doubt trying to show 'support for the AFL team.' Apologies for the rant!

The stadium, like all of the stadiums seemingly in Australia is being built around the dimensions of the MCG, so is the high performance centre at Rosny.

Richard Flanagan is put up as a shining beacon as to being a great Tasmanian. He's not an economist, he's a writer who is heavily focused on the environmental issues. He has no clue on this, and shouldnt' be speaking. He also is a proponent of an alternative use for the land, and as such is biased. Listen to someone like Saul Eastlake who at least IS an economist.

Correct, your response is selfish.

Wow, so much handwringing with Jefferson in a back pocket for a practise match in the VFL! It's common for forwards to play some time as backs to see leading patterns etc. Also consider: BBB and Fullerton are more likely to get a senior call up before Jefferson, possibly even this week against the dogs, they probably got priority as forwards for this match so we can see them as an option for round 1. Verral and KFW had the ruck duties, and TMac is playing as a back this year, that is where he trained all year, why would that be a surprise. Breathe people, you're gonna pop a blood vessel before round 4!!!

Agree, plus it's in a residential area, it has covenants for for noise, light and how long an event is allowed to run for, no options for public transport. Tas Cricket has already announced that they plan to exit the ground as well. Suburban grounds don't make good stadiums. A stadium needs to be close to the heart of the city.

Closed roof, no issue. Dark MOFO game between devils and demons would be a great thing.
-
Not only do they not have a clue, the leader has all but said that the 18 club chairs have no say over this, and it's between the govt and the AFL. There is only one party that has a clear position here with a handful of independents that are being really clear, Greens think that it can be based in Launceston, Labor is a hot mess, Jacqui Lambie is worse than a hot mess.

People saying he was limping at the airport, tbh it felt like he was proppy most of the night. It was an interesting selection call moreso because I feel like he, Billings, Laurie & Spargo feel like they should be fighting it out for 2-3 places in our team, not taking up 4 by themselves. Kozzie, McAdam (and hopefully Melk when fit) offer significant points of difference here. This isn't a slight on the players above, just they play I don't see how they all fit.
-
If he's not ready, you don't take him as one of the three emergencies for the game last night. He hasn't probably had match practise to the level we had hoped, but he should be ready to play.

Hmmm, understudy? 2 Copelands, 2 AA jumpers, yeah this guy is a complete novice! I don't know if Grundy's tactic at the centre bounce is a good look for the game, I thought that they had to stay on the other side of their line until the ball had been bounced, he was running at the player and not even looking at the ball at times. But he played ok, Gawn was ok too. I don't like the hits behind play Gawn still gets without penalty. People need to get a grip, one game in basically tropical conditions. We looked better in the first half than Sydney, yet couldn't score, they can address that through the week. We looked less competitive I thought after half time, yet we kicked 3 goals, and only trailed by 2 points. Ran out of steam in the last. Windsor looked good, Howes looked good after a couple of shaky possessions. Not a night for tall forwards on either side. but both sides struggled to score fluently until Sydney had that patch in the last.

aaaaand there is the MFCSS! Thanks 🤨

I am not sure Brown or Fullerton are likely to be named as the sub, I could be wrong, but aren't the AFL rules slightly different now that we name up all 5 on the bench as part of the full team 23. Which is a little different than last year where clubs name 4, then announce the sub on the day from outside the squad. Thanks to Champion Data! :) If either of these were being named then it's likely that they would have been announced at training as well with the squad you would have thought. So my guess is that the 23rd player will be from the existing 2023 squad as such.

are you saying Howes has bought your mood down? poor kid!

Far more likely we would have kept James Jordon IMO

Can we request Maynard to be dressed in sackcloth and walked through the streets whilst people throw fruit at him and hurl abuse?

Lets see if Collingwoods media team kicks another own goal and lets Maynard attempt to wish Brayshaw all the best. After the netball repurposing, it's certainly something that they are stupid enough to do. ..... Seriously though, if he comes out to say anything publicly, I'll do my nut.
