  1. So about the same value as your incessant negativity brings to demonland you say? Sometimes if you don't have something positive to say, consider keeping your views to yourself. I believe you are wrong on the $$ value, I believe the feel good factor alone is more than enough of a reason to have Tassie in the competition, and the predicted 200k by easter foundation members that incidentally include a significant number of people who support other teams and live on the mainland would suggest that it does too. Who gives a stuff about the catchment areas when we are talking about this issue? I'd love to know the TV viewing numbers that have gone with the GC and GWS, I suspect the AFL wanted to get into the NRL market, and I doubt that the ratings are that solid, I firmly believe Demetiou made the wrong call, and I suspect the vast majority of people would now consider that to be true. Hobart as a market, is very similar to Geelong? Heck.... Victoria is a state of 6.5million, and you have 10 teams, roughly speaking thats 650k per team, Tas as a population is 550k, but Tassie will be supporting and behind one team. No one is 'Pandering' to converted footy fans. Tasmania deserves a team, and has done for decades.
  2. TBH if the AFL were serious about stamping out dodgy actions, they should notify clubs that if any player is seen to be doing what Nick Hind attempted on Chad Warner that they will also cop a 2 week suspension or a hefty fine regardless of whether it makes contact or not. That elbow could easily have broken a jaw or cheekbone. Gutless cheap shot by Hind and I hope someone from his club calls him out on it.
  3. At least the Hawks were targetting him near the play of the ball. Gawn is getting dropped sometimes 30-50m off the play. Those hits, body checks and bumps are the ones that are poor because he's not expecting contact, nor should he.
  4. we'd need a 5th umpire for looking at behind the scenes stuff... and we know how well they are going with the review system and the boundary umpires keeping things in bound.
  5. Anyone a little confused by comments coming out of Sydney (Tom Papley in particular) about Essendon and their behind the ball hits on their players? I'm confused by some in the media discussing this too. Two words. "Max Gawn" If you are so concerned Tom, call out the players that took hits at Max behind the play as he's going from contest to contest. Knocking him over, bumping off the ball 30-40m away from play. Sydney and Port Adelaide constantly bump, and knock Gawn to the ground. Some media condone it, and saying that because Max is such a good player that every team should do it, even calling out MFC players for not doing to opposition teams or defending Gawn. Can't remember who it was, but someone actually called out the Dogs, and why they didn't do it, yet others are saying it should be stamped out, and I agree. Umpires need to be aware of it, and call frees. Tom Papley, you can't have it both ways, either you are happy with bumping players off the ball, or the tummy taps, or you aren't, but then don't do it to other teams, or target players like Gawn.
  6. Langdon playing a good quarter.
  7. What the heck is this game plan that the Hawks are playing.... I mean by all means keep playing it :D
  8. https://www.nblstore.com.au/collections/tasmania-jackjumpers?page=1&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzN-vBhAkEiwAYiO7oCFv9SwMEpGzhYgLUaPWI0AK9z7qNnUZT2bc5QgJeAIylxvD8b38zRoC86QQAvD_BwE I thought the same thing, looked at the NBL store for one team. It's crazy how many different tops they have!
  9. next you'll complain that they didn't put a facial tumour on the image.
  10. 27 years? Wasn’t that when port came into the comp? GWS and GC were around 2010? point is still valid tho I guess!
  11. Agree they are not actual memberships, but it’s indicative of the support this team will have.
  12. 60k as of 45 min ago. I’m hearing that the jumper is a foundation jumper, so those who don’t like the designs ,it might change.
  13. Could be mainly yellow with red and green, or white with the other 3 colors, thinking of the Jackjumpers, and thats how they have gone. I agree the green would clash with MFC, Carlton and possibly a few others
  14. yep, they haven't announced them but not sure how many teams the green will clash with, it's more a dark and light strip I suspect.
  15. Keep trolling, you might get someone who actually finds you amusing.
  16. Gonna let that slide and the first shot at a rivalry with a new team ;) Did you honestly think that the jumper would be anything different? I just signed up as a foundation member for the 6 members of my family. The order number was approximately #13700 I think. Most of the people on the AFL facebook site that supports the team and stadium are buying between 2-4 memberships. Its possible that there are 25k-30k foundation members signed up for this team inside of 35 minutes. Sure it's not a full membership for games etc, but if it says anything about a team and stadium and interest in a Tasmanian team. Edit: as of 8pm, the foundation member order numbers are over 19k. Given each have multiple memberships, there is a chance of 40k - 50k members signing up tonight.
  17. Yep 100%!! Tassie spends more than 7.25 million a DAY on health, a full 1/3 of the state budget is allocated to health. Putting 375Million (over the next 3-4 years) will not make a difference to health services or education services. The systems themselves are broken, not the amounts put into it.
  18. A lot of people do want the stadium too. It's not a majority that don't, it's a loud minority that always squeal the loudest. It needs a stadium, but it's a political football (bad pun) and the road ahead won't be smooth.
  19. What a ray of sunshine you are! Who ever said we were thinking of Taylor Swift type acts? but Tas wasn't looking at those types of acts anyway, That said anything that could go to Rod Laver Arena 15k or AAMI stadium 30k would be possible. Queens came here to play at MonaFoma, it's supposed to be an exclusive for MONA. We can and have attracted acts like Foo Fighters, Chilli peppers etc. I'm sure if a suitable venue is available, Tas will be able to get acts to come here, and we might even get mainland people coming for those acts... but that could be delusional too I guess. I have to say there are a lot of people on the mainland who seem to actually like thinking that Tasmania can't stand on it's own two feet, can't support a team, can't build a stadium. It's almost like you prefer to look down on people to make you feel better about yourselves, it's a sad way to live. I thought the NIMBY's all lived in Tasmania, but it feels like mainlanders see Tassie as it's backyard and would prefer it to remain a national park, power the mainland with our hydroelectric power and feed you salmon.
  20. I honestly don't know, but that is what it's been costed at. 765 Mil I believe they are using the same mob that did the Adelaide oval, and are building this in NZ https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/sport/511714/new-christchurch-stadium-a-chance-to-add-another-new-zealand-nrl-side#:~:text=The team would be based, over the next few weeks. NZ stadium is a pretty similar in concept, I think it will host rugby and cricket, but not 100% sure. The other design (MacPoint 2.0) sound looks like it will fund through private investment, the sale of the units that they will build (and sound proof hopefully ;) ) a hospital, car parks etc.... Apparently they save a lot of money in their design by not needing to 'skin' the stadium, One side is dug into the side of the regatta ground, and they are using the earth to push out into the Derwent for the rest of the stadium precinct. Can Victoria afford to spend $1Billion to upgrade the MCG to upgrade the great southern stand.... which apparently might increase capacity by 5000? and allow more food and beverage locations in it? I get that you guys have so much money you are throwing it at paying off the commonwealth games committee, but still that's a lot of money :D Adelaide Oval was $610 mil I think
  21. haha... yep, they are in here a hell of a lot these days :)
  22. I suspect low impact instead of medium impact will be their argument here. Low would get a fine.
  23. Was it your comment or your client's calling it a picturesque old world environment? it's reclaimed land that has had a woodchip port and a waste water treatment site on it. Either of these stadiums could be iconic in terms of location to the water, mountain and city. Why the perception that it would detract from the environment especially when no design plans have been released for this. 2.0 is impressive also.
  24. Incidentally, this is what a lot of the public were given as an artists render of what the stadium would look like. This image was produced by the architect behind Richard Flannigan's 'alternative' vision for Mac Pt incidentally. Firstly no designs are even released, this is an 'impression' based upon Marvel Stadium. But they put it out into all of the media and newspapers, so of course people thought it would be ugly. The image in the background is what the perspective would more likely look like. But it was too late with the doctored image that was already in the media.
  25. you picked a lot of nits...
