Also, i was lead to believe the sub-committee was set up initially as a "poach an experienced available coach" arrangement. Or was it? Not saying aim/structure/purpose of committee isn't flexible according to the changing circumstances and couldn't have changed over the weeks. But we apparently had a few weeks more time up our sleeves than FREEO (less $ options probably i realise).....yet didn't even manage to get an "informal" talk in with RL!!? Are we saying the only question we asked re RL breaking his contract or being able to, was the one Gazza asked on FC via Grant Thomas's interview with Nettlefold re the 'out clause' in RL's contract? And that was because.....umm...Gazza had the same management team...or we just didn't press further....or what exactly? If you rank Clarkson and put the approach to him by all accounts....surely you'd also want to have a chat with RL!!? Gazza's doing and may have done 'his best' under his circumstances but was it good enough for our circumstances i wonder? Still not convinced it was (is) what's needed at this time given our youth and the disaster that was 2011. Neeld maybe the best of the untried but who really can say until they've had 3 - 4 years at the helm with such a young crew. Easier when there's a few more pre-seasons into the boys like at North (Brad) and a dual premiership team in the Cats (Chris). For me this still smacks of an 'Old Boys Club' that's up against a bunch of modern day corporate animals, willing to push the envelope both legally and morally, whilst we sit around and ponder the field over a cigar or two using very 'traditional' methods and approaches. I realise Gazza wouldn't be putting up with the above as such but i'm not sure he would have had the time/capability to fully counter it and cut through it either, given all his other commitments (media etc). If it is Neeld i just hope he's surrounded by serious Senior support. Although i appreciate his background and all he might be bringing from the Filth, I'm fairly sceptical, and will be looking to see significant results on a consistent basis from 2013.

A bit like Brad Gotch

With Mick's recent statement that he feels the Demons will make the finals next year depending on the coach, and "i'll be watching with interest from the sidelines", with a wry smile and a wink, this makes complete sense as our likely option. If there is any such thing as sense in the AFL anymore lol. What a circus! Not saying i'm happy with it if it does come to fruition though. Prefer experience. Unfortunately the final "apparently available" experience option has landed in Perth. Not that these are the only two possibilities, but I'm thinking Neil Craig as Senior Assistant given that Gazza aint a big fan of Eade apparently. However, I'd be very surprised if this came to light in an official sense before next week, given all the media hype and focus surrounding the Lyon to Freo issue and elimination finals this weekend.

I'll be celebrate with you if we land the big one lol

Haha.....lets hope the mouse you're referring to has a fair amount of 'Rat Cunning' to boot! I want that cheese!

Garry made a point of saying we are on track re our coaching appointment and specifically made of point of saying "to the supporters who would be concerned out there, not to worry, everything's on track" or something to that effect. He said something else before that that caught my attention as well but can't recall (sign of old age lol). Reading between the lines, he was almost saying "don't worry demonoids....we're well on the path to securing who we were after....all is in order". Did i misinterpret this?

You mean up sh&t creek, in a canoe... without a...

Lyon's probably getting a few bars of that in his show bag too! Maybe we should recall Diamond Jo! Our new sub-committee member

Hope you know something WYL..... i'm gonna bloody brain you if we don't!

Without doubt. Money talks..... And he probably had to go it alone. His management group could hardly discuss it whilst also representing the coach he was about to replace. How else could he have done it i wonder. Sack his (relatively new) management and appoint another in the space of a few weeks and try and involve them in the dealings whilst maintaining secrecy as well. Highly improbable. Still.....not a good look. Saints will be reeling and pretty bloody furious once the dust settles.
-
This seems plausible Kento. Especially with Gazza asking questions of Nettlefold re: contract clauses in a publicly televised FC segment. Maybe out of frustration.
-
The Saints still have "Ross Lyon is Required" on their web site.
-
One can only hope..... otherwise the Saints are now in play..... Maybe they've played their hand already on MM I think Gazza's body language just might give us a bit of a clue tonight as to whether we've got our man...or still out there looking. I'm sure he'll be peppered about it regardless.
-
Arrghh. Another suitor for MM!!! That's if they haven't snared him already

Steve '$ully' Austin

Wow. didn't see that coming. Had a shocking year with injuries which was beyond his control. Seems like a decent guy. Hope he lands something somewhere fairly quickly.

Knows what he wants to do....or already knows what he's going to be doing!?? I think you're onto something here Old Dee. I'm not sure it's a contract with us as i have no idea. However, i noticed from about 2 weeks ago he seemed VERY relaxed. Even after the huge loss to the Cats. This could mean he's just comfortable with the way things are heading going into the finals. But i'm not so sure. Just seems like he knows what lies ahead and he's relaxed about all of it. Like the monkey's off his back with regard to his future role. This could also just as easily be him coming to terms with a stint at the filth as Director and/or a media stint for 2012 or whatever. But something appears to have gone down 'future wise' for him as his persona has had a 'very relaxed' change IMO.

There isn't a direct term that i'm aware of to match exactly that situation you're putting forward, at least not in Texas Hold'em anyway. Might be in 5 card stud etc. The only way you can get to a stronger hand in hold'em is by folding the existing hand and waiting for a better one to be dealt later in the round. However for those that aren't familiar with the game, in texas hold'em there is something that relates. One could say that Steve is the hand dealt. GWS obviously believe they were dealt a top hand and therefore expect a big return on the hand they were dealt. So, they throw in a $6 million contract as their initial bet. Albeit this is paid over time in reality i realise, so maybe the front ended part is their initial bet (might be a get out clause for serious injury within a specified time etc). Now, say GWS eventually don't get the return (or payout) they were expecting as a result of Steve's knee impeding him (after the hand is finished) or alternatively because he's found he isn't up to the level they expected, you could say..... "GWS overplayed the hand they were dealt" The other terms in poker one could use to convey a bad outcome for them... GWS got rivered (technically not correct but has the same intent lol) GWS took a bad beat Actually bad beat could be very appropriate as well if things don't work out re Steve's knee (not wishing him any ill will). Basically it means that a poker player (say GWS), whose hand was highly favoured to win at the commencement of the hand, is beaten in an improbable turn of events during the remainder of the hand. B)

Cagey old fox isn't he. Probably just stirring the pot and hamming it up for the boys on the panel. A few others have said on here that the longer we don't announce an appointment of a coach the more likely it is it'll be Mick given the filth's in the finals and he can't negotiate/commit. Gonna be a long 3 to 4 weeks if that's the case
-
Lol Let me put it this way, at this stage i'm thinking of heading off next year on a sabbaticle in a galaxy far far away! That's unless we land a big fish coach for 2012. Oops, hang on, there's only one left and i think he's stuck in Eddieville isn't he
-
Oh, that's what you meant lol. Maybe they're spending a little less on marketing and redirecting it into the bowels of the FD. There i go....guessing again

The decision to move Jmac on may have been a poor one in but it's time to move onwards an upwards with the new talent we have (and more to come with the $ally compensation picks etc). It's our first 'full' pre-season at AAMI Park with state of the art facilities. We've finally moved into a 21st Century facility (along with the rest of the club...maybe that was what caused the ructions and we should have kept them apart!) in readiness for an attack on a massive pre-season. Need at least 2 full pre-seasons here to see the benefits, but once the club settles in here and the young boys start to develop physically and mentally...i believe we'll definitely start seeing significant results. Even this year we've seen it in patches with Martin, Petterd, Watts, Trengove etc starting to build a decent AFL physique/tank and show some real grunt in patches. With some gritted teeth, determination, a decent coach and coaching staff, and an injection of strong leadership into the board/admin and playing group (Trenners), i have no doubts the MFC will slowly but surely regain it's status as one of the power clubs in the AFL. Things turn quickly once people start to regain hope and more importantly.... belief. Add to this the taste of more success on the field, and we have ourselves a winning formula. I see 2012 as a year of consolidation. To finally gain a little respect and better the annus horribillus that was 2011. Particularly with our interstate results and more competitive margins against the top sides. 2013 looms as a huge break out year for this club. It also adds up to the devil's number 6, along with his demon cohorts! Looking forward very much to 2013. Mighty Demons Forever! B)

How about i put it in poker terms then.... Generation D = We're going 'all in' on our youth lol P.S. You're right. Pretty much everything i say on here is a guess
-
From the email... quote ... "In 2012 our generation of young, talented players will demonstrate their growing strength, and come into their own under new leadership. We are calling it Generation D"... My take on it... New 'younger' Captain - Trenners! Younger brigade of other leaders in the LG....say Grimes or Watts as VC. Frawley and then a few older boys to support them out of say Moloney, Jones and Green. Moloney might keep VC but definitely a bent towards youth in remainder of LG. Just a stab. Generation D. Sounds better than "Young Demons" or something like that i guess.
