  1. I'd love to think it was us Belze. But my gut says he stays at the filth and gets paid a packet for doing not much. Effectively a huge long service leave payout with casual appearances around the club to say hello and provide input as required and a little bit of PR. On channel 7 after the game the other night he was fully suited as 'part of the panel'. This is the first time i've seen him looking like and acting as if he was now a part of their team. At least in practice sense on the night. To me in readiness for a more serious commitment on same panel next year whilst on LSL at the filth. After that my gut feel is the Toiges in 2013, assuming they don't have a break out year (ie., anything above 9th lol). With us as an outsider IF we put a temporary set up in place....which i doubt we would. In one word... SLIM
  2. You never heard of Jim Stynes? I can't even log in...even with my new password they gave me....which is 'password' lol
  3. Gold! Thanks for sharing that Btw, i don't think they have a choice. The MFC supporter base would be pretty skewed towards older croaks like us i reckon. Haven't exactly inspired a run of youthful support from the masses in the last 4 decades eh
  4. They made an error and will be changing it shortly to .... "Generation Old D" For all us aging Demons! B)
  5. Fair comment. Just looking as an outsider. He does appear happy doing what he does i agree. As to whether it's "love" of club or love of 'the role' or maybe 'love of game' who knows. If you know him or someone close to him who knows that it's definitely 'love of club' then happy to defer to your better judgement/knowledge RP. I guess the point i was making was that he's a pro/veteran and that they aren't easy to find at this level with experience in the AFL as such. Happy with him staying, provided he keeps his neo corporate theory/views within the bounds of the board/admin and not try and impose them (at least without board approval) onto the FD staff and players.
  6. I hear what you're saying Diablo. The carp dished up this year was unacceptable no matter how you look at it. But i also think WYL is on the money here.... and i'm not saying you personally don't give enough already and haven't done so over many years. Most of us have i'm sure. But the bigger we get....both membership wise, $ wise and attendance wise....the stronger we'll become in all facets of the club. Maybe you've done all you can. I'm sure many here have also reached their plausible/reasonable limit in terms of giving on and off the field and are frustrated as hell at the on field results as they aren't able to give any more and want a reward for effort/loyalty/$ contributed etc. But also, just maybe (i'm hoping lol), this year was a huge turning point within the club and a 'sorting out' of those who are up to the challenge of 'becoming and being successful' going forward, and those that aren't! Both at the top and within the FD. And i'm not saying we haven't sorted out all the wheat from the chaff yet either. Nor am i saying success will happen overnight. I don't have any expectations for significant improvement myself unless we snare a top line coach/team and even then no expectations until 2013 when the boys have another 2 pre-seasons under them, understand the new coaches strategy etc and able to put it into practice with more mature bods/minds. As WYL said, just gotta push and keep pushing hard....all of us (i'm not targeting you in this regard Diablo.....just a general statement). For my part this means just stretching the purse strings a little more for next year and buying say a family membership instead of just 2 etc. I prefer the idea of buying extra memberships over contributing to 'a fund' as such, as i believe the extra membership will help the club from a marketing point of view (Sponsors/Fixture negotiations etc). That's pretty much all the media highlights as well in terms of how the club is progressing off the field. That and attendance records/profit loss lol. So the club gets the extra $ plus the stats to show off and market itself with. Also success breeds success. The more members we have, and the more non-members who see this, provided we are seen to be improving on the field, i think the more non-members will join up and jump on the band wagon. I also want the results on the field and don't accept the carp that was dealt up this year....but we just have to be as positive as we can and contribute as much as we can. All you can do after that is get to as many games as possible and barrack your brains out and hope for the best. Oh, and also keep venting our spleen on here lol P.S. If we're able to get 36,000 members dishing up this carp...imagine what we could get to if we start to turn this around and peeps see the light mate! 40,000 ...even 50,000 within 3 - 5 years isn't impossible! Of course the reverse could be said given this year's nonsense i realise. Prefer to look at the glass half full though! The half empty is too depressing.
  7. Personally, i think we're doing the best we can at the top with what we have, whilst requiring a leader to provide a real voice and true leadership to take us forward in the long term and 'drive' things aggressively post Jimmy IF he decides to take a break. If he gets back on board health wise, as we all hope he can, then that's a different matter. McLardy is new to the media spotlight but growing into the role, albeit slowly. Not sure he's president material or wants to be though. Some potential showing though. Schwab's a veteran/pro at this game now but also an AFL journeyman who would probably be just as happy in any other AFL organisation if the deal was attractive enough. I think we have him for at least the next 12 months yes? Unless we found an equal or better alternative as CEO then better to have him at this point given his experience. Provided he agrees to keep his neo corporate theories and machinations at the administrative level only! And i'm not saying he hasn't...just hoping it didn't play a part in the mid year issues given all the rumours. Garry doing a great job so far at filling the hole but for how long. Hopefully he'll realise the necessity for a leader/voice within the club during his stint there and continue on for as long as is needed. Maybe even as interim president should Jimmy decide to take a break. Hopefully Gazza can learn from others, like Eddie and the Chief, that it is possible to wear 2 hats and continue on successfully in both roles. EDIT: The 'Lone Wolf' should have all the time in the world!
  8. Not sure about the champion bit but my gut feel is he might not live up to all the hype whilst still being a solid contributor. Never at any stage felt $ally was fully committed or 'in' with the playing group or the club. Fully committed to himself in a professional sense....sure, no doubts there. Trenners, the exact opposite. Agree, I think we've actually had a huge win here given the compensation picks we received.....provided we use them well! (O'Meara!)
  9. Ok....here we go again. It's heresay off SEN's 'All Night Appetite' last night with host Cameron Luke and somone else, maybe Darren Parkin, not sure who the other host was. Whoever it is is a Demon supporter anyway . I returned home from work and was looking for anything on web/here re news on Lyon and heard this around 2am on their show... They took a call from a regular Collingwood insider on there. I didn't pick up who it was as i came in just after call started. However he wasn't a nobody as he was giving away excess finals tickets, $30 below face value and some free to kids etc for one of the matches this weekend. He stated the following.....take it however you wish... - After the loss to the Swans....Lyon decides it's time for a shake up in the playing list and he also wants to make a few technical changes and adjustments to the FD. Obviously this was partially played out on the night with the announcement of the four retirements & delistings. He believes this is a non-negotiable if the Saints are to have any chance of a another GF shot. Not a full rebuild but still significant enough that it 'might' ruffle the feathers of a few people both at board level and also within the playing group. - He informs his leadership group of the intentions (sometime over the weekend...maybe after the game itself in the rooms). - The leadership group have probably met informally after this at some point to discuss. They then head over to RL's place on Monday night for a solid informal chat fest. They confirm to Lyon that they are in full support of his proposed changes and that they will back him all the way in 2012. - With the leadership support behind him, Lyon goes to Board (yesterday...and this is where the media circus spot some of the movements and some misinterpret them early as a change happening!) and confirms what he feels is required and what his intentions are for 2012. - The board agree in principal and state their intentions that he is a required coach going forward and that they wish to finalise contract negotiations ASAP (Note: This part wasn't conveyed in the interview......pure speculation on my part) I guess that then leaves it as an issue for settlement between Lyon and the Saint's board over the next week or so. But definitely no serious interest in the Demon offer at this point (formal or otherwise). I think all our offer is doing at this point is forcing the Saints to potentially pay over what they had in mind and also potentially offering him a longer contract deal to seal it. Lyon's management would no doubt be using our offer (formal or otherwise) as leverage. The only glimmer of light in the call was that the same insider believed that Mick was a great fit for Melbourne. And although reluctant to see him go, he believed it was in the best interests of Mick, in terms of doing the right thing by him after all his given the filth, to let him follow his wishes and continue coaching. Again pure speculation but this view just might be something that's permeating from the top (Eddie) down. P.S. I'm not sure it's 'us' that's playing it out in the media Dee.....just the usual media circus.
  10. Best wishes to Gazza on his 44th! 4+4 = 8... a lucky number for some, including me! I'm taking this as a strong positive omen that good things are just around the corner for the MFC.... Ok, so i'm desperate for some positive news and i'll find it in anything you say?! Hell yeh!
  11. Nettlefold didn't look confident at any stage last night. I suspect they're fighting a rear guard action to try and win him back. Not easy when a big offer with more years of service is on the table. Lyon's management would be negligent if they weren't looking to maximise his pay cheque here given all the bites he must be getting and that he would be in the top 3 to 4 of the options available.
  12. Rumours on SEN that Lyon's meeting with the Saints playing group privately right now ....letting them know first Could be the smoke.....
  13. Discussing the Lyon situation and the article above in more detail on SEN after 1pm today
  14. Lol. After 40 odd years of following the ups & downs (mostly downs) and trials and tribulations at this club...i don't need one...already gone bananas! Speaking of monkeys (warning: don't try this at home folks!)........
  15. Not another Fev thread How bout we just hand him the number 31 and move forward! Couldn't be any more draining on the club than the $culls saga this year eh..... or could it
  16. Lol. Very appropriate.....for you mate. I wasn't the one with the $cully pic ya goose. I was never 'in' to $cully in the first place as such. Hence i rarely ever commented on the $cully threads. He looked too slight and skinny, yet another choir boy for mine. Maybe in 3 years time when he fills out he'll kick some ass .....maybe. But unlike yourself, was never huge on him. Was only ever concerned about getting fair and reasonable compensation once it was pretty certain he was off. We are talking about the same number 31 yes? The one that was last uded by $cully? Hec, you're not conveniently forgetting what happened one day after the event to somehow strengthen your point are you Rhino? Not my monkey. Just an opinion. OOooo ooooo oooo.....ah ah ah....eee eee eee Nah. The prissy practices are things like handing over such coveted jumpers willy nilly to young players who haven't had a chance to earn them. And other things like raising a red & blue flag before the match in some sort of ceremonial statement earlier this year. Dropping the Demon from all marketing and PR for a time there a few years back under the pretence that we were just 'The MFC' like some sort of UK soccer club and that this would differentiate us somehow from the other clubs....even though we were throwing away our heritage handed to us from the great Checker. These are the prissy practices that we need to rid ourselves of and have done so ie., in hindsight the club has recognised the vanishing 'Demon' error and has now had to work extra hard to turn it around by invoking it again in its marketing, dumping the flag raising ceremony. The club needs to be better in many matters. Just because you disagree with it doesn't mean it's backward looking. In fact i can't see how it's backward looking at all. You mothball it and move on. Jumpers are still presented to young recruits as they join.....just not 31 for however long. Speaking of backward looking......i see you've decided on a new pic! I guess you had to look back a little for that yeh?
  17. Nice. I've had the pleasure too, on a few occasions. He's a great guy. However, Barass did what you're suggesting earlier this year when presenting the jumper to $cully. I just hope he followed up and ripped the jumper off him as he walked out the door just as he said he would do if he didn't give his all for the club lol. I prefer the 'earn it' method as per the Hawks myself..... Weight of Expectation
  18. ...good chuckle on that one WYL! Clever. You know the Fat Controllers still going on about the Jeff White issue. Was doing so on MMM this morning. Frustrating thing is no one pulls him up. He just gets away with the spin as if its fact. Freemantle were compensated more than fairly. Such different circumstances too. He wanted to come back to Melb .....plus a 3rd year player. What a DH!
  19. Only a pretence in your view mate. Passion and feelings are real. Supporters have them and will continue to for as long as there's a MFC. So build a bridge buddy and get used to it. The hole Scully saga was the pretence on this club as is your view that you're the oracle and authority on most matters MFC. The jumper should be retired. Why curse another player with the burden and extra pressure of wearing a number that's now infamous, especially a young kid as you and many on here have suggested. Maybe once the decades have rolled on and the media scribes have had a chance to move on. Until then it should be moth balled as others have suggested here.
  20. Nice work on the Trenners switch. Cheers
  21. Lets hope the Fat Controller has been given a history lesson since then. And we make sure we hold the AFL to account when they try to spin this twisted BS into our compensation negotiations. Still a great post Bean. Thanks
  22. You got your wish Daz! The Demonland crew are Photoshopping Trenners in there to fill in $cully's blank silhouette as we write!
  23. Far from it. MFC just removed Scully's player profile. Other's, even at the highest level, have interests and feelings here too. EDIT: Also just noticed, he's been removed from the Demonland banner. You been Photoshoping this morning RR?
  24. My point is retire the jumper. It's now linked in infamy with big name players walking out on the club. And no Scully is not a proven player....yet. But he was/is a big name in the game regardless of his youth. My point isn't 'Scully' as such. IMO it's cursed and should be retired.
  25. Not until now i agree. Things have changed as of this morning mate. Speaking of changes....shouldn't you be out there looking around for a new profile pic?
