Goody Presser (16/8)
Very nice D4! Although we only get the Viney injection IF we make finals lol. And even then we really can't be certain. Agree Pedders, while poor last week, was better than anything Weids has produced so far i'm afraid. Even managed a goal which i can't recall Weids doing too often if at all in most matches. And although JKH's game wasn't great either i would argue it was better than anything Hannan produced in his last block so we'll agree to disagree on those two changes eh. At this stage i'm very non-plussed with what Goody has done in matches that we could / should have won (at least the odd close one....basically we've lost all of them)... but you are indicating some optimism with a few IFs ....i'm just not sure i want to bite anymore...

Goody Presser (16/8)
Personally i think Goody has been caught out asleep at the wheel (or just making poor positional decisions on the day) both in game far too often and in pre-match selections. A great example in the game last week was the continuation of Jones & Tyson on both wings for the majority of the match, even when it was clear Sydney had the speed (not hard against too of our slowest players across the ground) going both ways with Jones completely cooked on this front. Was being lead to the ball by his opponent on many occasions, the exception the last quarter where he appeared to be playing more of a HF role and managed to lose his opponent for a few more possessions closer to goal. The selections of Weids (who has has yet to fire a shot in 5 matches this year) for Pedders (who had his 2nd best game since Rnd 1...not great but a long way ahead of anything Weids has produced so far) and Hannan for JKH (who had his best game for the club last week and was a fair way ahead of Spargo / and a mile ahead of ANB) is just mind boggling. Unless the likes of Spargo, Maxy (who's been off the last few weeks), Jones, Weids, Hannan and ANB suddenly find their mojos and produce some outstanding performances (or in the case of Jones and Maxy back to their better form for the year) it's going to be a big ask over there. You need EVERYTHING going for you. And as usual, we have lost a number of games we should have won (the Saints game...easily!) and are now, seemingly, a bridge too far and a fair chance of missing finals....again. Having said that, IF we kick straight in front of goal AND the players listed above bring something decent, we do have a clear edge over the Eagles in most other aspects (goal umpiring bias aside).....

Hogan 2018 season over with foot injury
Just go with T-Mac and a medium/small forward line. As unfortunate as Hulk's injury is, sometimes things happen for a reason. The impending return of Melksham and and an available Kent kicking a few goals on the weekend might be just the tonic we need to get over the Eagles & the Greater Western Circus and secure a finals berth.

Hogan 2018 season over with foot injury
I dont think either of them are viable key forward option at this point unfortunately. Decoys for T-Mac at best

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 21
Can't argue with any of that. When is this bloke going to stand up in a big game against a rated club?? That kicking action and run up, not to mention the method of how he positions his hands when running in for a set shot. Pure madness. Footy is a tough game and so easy to pot from the armchair, i get all that, especially in a big game. But he's no longer a rookie! I've seen enough of the great forwards to know that his set shot method/process is, more often than not, never going to hold up under big game pressure / spotlight. It just has too many horrible flaws in it. I've said it from his early days, fix the set shot kicking method and he could be anything. Just keep doing the same and he will probably be a flawed potential genius for the rest of his career with the odd highlight game here and there. If we can't help him fix it and show him the way here (with outside help if needed) then we have failed him (and ourselves) as a club.

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 21
We are our own worst enemy here DV unfortunately. The better clubs/coaches cover the middle of the field and close up on us if we get a bit if a lead. They push us wide and more often than not .....we just bomb coming around the flanks. By going wide and slow we allow them to set up their structures and send extra numbers to the hot zone, approx 20 to 30ish out from goal on a half circle shaped defense. The way around this is to hit targets coming back inside as often as possible and not necessarily play on at all costs once you do so. If it's on the arc and you can hit from outside 50 or hand it off to someone who can, go for it. If not work it around the arc until someone opens up a short option on the inside. We are simply too easily defended coming inside 50. The better teams are just not concerned that much as they know all they have to do is play a basic structural D and kill the high bomb to the hot zone. They also know we don't have speed to pressure them on the counter (Garlett!!??) and we continue to keep playing this lazy / crappy zone D / press (more often than not) that is in the main ineffectual as we have too many slow by foot players around the mid field such as Tyson, Jones and Lewis (on the press). The opp then does the exact opposite to us and run it out hitting targets at will through the witches hats as they make their way up the field with relative ease under little pressure. More often than not they are probably also looking to go through our sluggish match ups listed above to take advantage of the mis match on leg speed. How the hec Goody allowed Tyson on one wing and Jones on the other for significant periods of the match is astounding. We had no speed at all on the outside for far too long and it showed. Very poor coaching move IMHO just on it's own. I have been saying this since about Round 10 / 12. Goody should have been running a heavily biased training session targeting "foot skills under pressure" (if he hasn't been....maybe he has as i haven't seen any of the sessions). The boys need to work super hard on maintaining possession by foot across the entire field, including forward of center. Any player that can't make the grade (hitting targets by foot under certain degrees of pressure under certain game conditions ie., using Champion data's kick / hit rating etc) in their given role / position or isn't able to improve in this aspect of their game given enough time, needs to be moved on in preference to players that can play a similar role but are significantly better at hitting targets. Part of this possession focus also has to include a player's decision making under pressure and an ability to show that he isn't going to panic and crack under significant game day / opponent pressure and is able to make the right choices, more often than not. Ignore those last two tweaks at your peril (and probably demise of the present list). If we don't fix this aspect of our club i'm reasonably sure we will be looking at another rebuild in 3 to 5 years or so under a different coach.

Casey Demons v Sandringham - Round 19
Vince very unfortunate...hopefully not too serious and went straight back in quickly

Allen Jakovich on The Front Bar (9/8)
Might wanna check that with OD! Probably went close. Not looking to open old wounds but Brian and Alan Johnson were the only 2 players I recall who fought openly for the club in the no-merger camp. Last time I saw them both was the small rally they attended in the city.

Changes vs Sydney
Lol no Bates. He may well be a better one though! Time will tell.

Changes vs Sydney
Yes things can go wrong after initial assessments that's for sure Cards. And as you say, muscle tears / strains etc don't respond to an expectation or timeline, even if it comes from a qualified pro with years of experience. Crap can still happen!

Changes vs Sydney
My source says he is cherry ripe Tracc. We will just have to wait I guess

Red Card Rule
I would suggest it has to be like for like but only on potential concussion related incidents mono. If the player on the receiving end is off for a concussion test (as determined by a neutral AFL doctor only) then the offending player also sits out the mandatory 20 minute assessment (no replacement ...opposing team is also 1 player down). If the player potentially concussed is then deemed fit and eligible to return the sin bin on offending player is lifted.

Changes vs Sydney
The same source that told me Hibb would return before finals. However that same source said Hibb was only 2 to 3 weeks which has now become 4 lol. Supposed to be returning vs Eagles
-
Red Card Rule
That is the one and only obvious weakness I can see leuco. And a very good solution. It all sounds too sensical for the AFL though.

Hibbo is a definite for Eagles clash
