T-Mac forward should help with structure finally

Hogan needs to work on his around the corner kicking...bananas etc. Tries to guide it through instead of letting the angle of where foot hits ball do the work. Get him a highlights real of Stevie J pls.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6
Demon Dynasty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
There are many that probably aren't worthy of an AFL game samcan given their form so far this season. We only bat about 14 deep. We wouldn't be able to field a team if you took that approach as we don't have the depth to cover 8 who are sub AFL standards at this point. In the context of our team i have Harmes ranked at No.11 anyways. While he is having an ordinary season so far he also has many below him worse off right now who are even more lucky to be getting a game. -

That is the million dollar question SF. I tell you what though, unless you fix some of the basic 101s of playing footy, you know ....the ones that we know this team struggles with within games week after week, no matter who the Coach (Coaches), you are going to have a damn hard job of implementing ANY game style with the mess we put out on the field most weeks/quarters. Goody's main challenge is to get them to play the basics well as second nature along with sticking to the percentage plays that will give us our best chance to score, and as a result improve our chances of winning. -

Not sure how the FD arrived at Stretch to start with. Very poor selection IMO and ended up coming back to bite us. Weids did well in comparison to his previous entrees to AFL and can hold his head up but again, incorrect selection for the Tiges match on such a big stage and occasion where goals where always going to be at a premium (for us) under the heat of the Premiers. I wouldn't be heaping too much scorn on Stretch as he should never have been running around in the first place. -

Norf are tracking pretty well just quietly. All the stats from the Pies match suggest Essendrug are up and about (in general play...albeit their pressure factor is right off). Roughly tracking (in general play) at about the level we were when we played Geelong. The trouble on Weds was their their shocking scoring efficiency and lack of pressure, not unlike our "Hawks horribilis" match. The disposals per goal were uncannily similar, although our efficiency in front of goal plumbed the depths of despair in comparison... Demons (vs Hawks) Essendrug (vs Pies) If they fix their conversion aspect inside 50 and up their pressure and we don't and we bring a level of form any less than the match against the Cats, we will be pummeled. We will need to clean up in front of goals and have a super solid match (and a significant improvement on the previous 2 matches obviously) to beat them at Etihad. -
Wow... Crown fined $330,000 for pokie tampering. The equivalent of me being find the cost of a bunch of bananas!

We have regressed fairly badly since last year's match RB. I agree re: T-Mac but was just looking at where we are at without him in this week as there's no certainty he is. If he comes in it might add the 4 to 5 goals i was thinking which might result in a draw or a very close result. You are correct re: Fritsch. He had a reasonable start for a young fella and not sure why they dropped him for the Tigers match. Alot of his numbers are equivalent to players who have been around for 4 to 5 years as mid / forwards and he's only played a handfull of games. Some of the team selections have been very ordinary so far. Praying T-Mac makes it! If he doesn't this might sound crazy but we really need Maxy to play some significant time up forward, even just to get ball to ground and try and upset their set ups down back a little. Weids to spend a little more time in the ruck vs last week if poss. P.S. If you are talking accuracy Pedders is pretty accurate within 40 odd meters or so. Should have been in last week and this. FD (Macca?) has seemingly stamped his papers after one more horrid game against Brissy it would seem just as they did with Dunny. Betting the farm on Weids. -

Tracc out (potential goal kicking mid), no other mids or mid/forwards kicking goals (Kent out), our abysmal delivery / horrible organisation / zip pressure inside 50, Jeffy in career worst form, no genuine stay at home tall forward to kick 2 or 3 (Pedders) on a good day. Might get alot of the pill and alot of entries as in previous 2 matches. But we simply aren't making the most of our entries and kicking enough goals. Scoreboard pressure absent in last 2 matches means a confident freed up (mentally) opponent who will have their tails up from the get go and going for the jugular early. Not expecting Essendrug to be much chop either but will probably make more of their opportunities up forward. Essendrug by 4 to 5 goals in an ugly encounter. -

Rinse & repeat DD. We are learning nothing as a club by continuing to select players who rarely impact at the highest level and wilt/flail under standard AFL pressure. His inability to cease with brain snaps also, can result in demotivation and loss of momentum, sometimes at crucial stages of a match when the game is in the balance. As many have said here already... VFL depth (emergency call up) ....at best! -

You got the 'Less Than'' part right DJ. I'm just struggling to work out what it was less than! -
A good question OD. Would love a journo to ask this of Goodwin. Why not hold the line generally, then improve marginally in certain areas AND maintain intensity for longer in games in an aim to step up into finals? One aspect that might explain part of the change up could be the removal of Watts, who often played the medium tall outside link roll across HB and mid field, bringing the ball into the forwards or sharing it around and finding targets across the arc if there was no obvious inside option. Apart from trying to make him more versatile and bring him into the game a little more to learn and assist, i wonder if the high roaming Hogan is an attempt to cover this loss a little. But this leads me to the next question. While allowing a free roaming Hogan would appear ok on the surface and is having some results in terms of his own performance, why would you have Hogan roaming so high while at the same time leave no potential goal kicking tall up forward as a target and/or to bring ball to ground for the smalls? We had it with Pedders for Geelong and Brissy. One of those matches we lost on the last kick of the day. As is usual for us....opportunity missed. But almost 2 for 2. We then dumped Pedders after a very ordinary game against Brissy and ran with a smaller forward line. Bugg then has an unusual goal kicking feast against the Roos (4.1) and with the successful return of Kent (3 goals) this helps to cover our lack of a tall marking/ pack busting forward (when Hogan was roaming). The same set up is taken into the Hawks match looking for a repeat. Bugg's goal kicking prowess returns to type kicking 0.4. Kent continues his form into the 1st quarter kicking 3. But the Hawks being the Hawks soon adjust. Hogan playing mostly high again means there is no tall to really worry their backline and none of our smalls are able to impact either. Jones on Mitchel and Harmes in the ruck for a couple of stints not helping us on the day also. Goody then selects Weids in an attempt to correct the above structural issue and ensure the Harmes rucking fiasco is not repeated. While not saying we would have won, to me the idea was correct but he had to run with a much more experienced bigger bodied Pedders if we wanted to hit the scoreboard a little more and split a few packs for the crumb. That's assuming the forward line coach/es were capable of drumming / teaching front and square / staying down to the smaller / mid forwards. Jeffy of course shouldn't need any teaching.... possibly motivating though! We more than likely lose anyway but not by nearly 10 goals. As you always say OD a loss is a loss but i would rather see us get our noses in front during parts of a match against last year's premiers than never able to lead at any stage. Even a glimmer of hope can foster light at the end of the tunnel and reinforce belief IMO. Especially among the younger portion of the group, where a winning culture is critical to their success/ development / growth and ultimately that of the club also.

1. Hogan finally starting to lead towards the ball carrier under pressure (in front of his opponent!) and taking a few chest marks 2. Stonewall O-Mac 3. Lever's best game so far

ELEPHANTIASIS (noun) The noun ELEPHANTIASIS has 1 sense: 1. hypertrophy of certain body parts (usually legs and scrotum); might want to get that seen to Buck

ANB's career so far has been littered with these team deflating brain snaps.... FF the vid to 5:12...we were 3 points ahead early in the last here. I remember this like it was yesterday at the ground and how demoralizing it must have been for the boys at the time....

T-Mac half a game at Casey surely after that long out of the game. St Kilda maybe. I would prefer a tall marking target than can kick straight and potentially get two or three goals PLUS bring the ball to ground busting packs and the occasional pack mark. The only option available who has form at Casey.... Pedders.

Does the main umpire usually go up to the winning captain (or both captains) after a game and say "well played"??
