Thank you to Demonland and all the others who make this site a pleasure to interact with. Top stuff!

I think Redleg was after something unusual ...

Demonland millenium ... hope it has more fizz than Y2K!
-
We all hear Redleg's thoughts regularly ...
-
I was thinking that if we beat the Eagles, then either the QB game or the Anzac Eve game is the GF replay next year ... should be bigger than ever!
-
I didn't quite catch that Redleg. What did you say again?
-
FWIW I think the 40,000 figure is pretty fanciful. The only way I can see a club getting even 35,000 tickets is if the other club is GWS or Gold Coast. For us, who would be playing Richmond or Collingwood, 20,000 seems far more likely.

The SANFL Preliminary Final fiasco

I see your point. I agree that the captain's count is outdated and needs to be changed. But I am also old-fashioned enough to think that it is about obeying the rules, and if you don't, the effect on the game is basically irrelevant. If you have more than 18 on the field, then it doesn't matter to me whether you now get beaten by 150 points rather than 100, or go from 1 point up to 1 point down. You pay the price no matter what. -
The SANFL Preliminary Final fiasco
Red and Bluebeard replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mmm... be careful about automatically replaying the match. If a team is down by 100 points with 1 minute to go, what is to stop them "accidentally" having 19 players on the ground and thus forcing the match to a replay? The more I think about, the best option seems to be scrub the entire score if detected during the game. If it is only detected afterwards, as in the SANFL game, then it is much harder to adjudicate. It seems to be either punish the guilty club in some way (like fines or penalty points for next year), or declare them losers of the game, which could only be done if there was a clear rule stating this in place before the game, IMHO. I think it is time to revise the captain's count part of the rule ... -
Just grin and bear it, and then chuck the shiraz bottle at them. If that doesn't work, follow up with a frisbee-style toss of the cheeseboard ... ?

Post Match Discussion - Semi Final

Just realised that when Gunston hit the post from 10 metres or whatever that he was only one second or so away from being crunched by Viney. No wonder he missed! -
Nah, stuff that! Enjoy the ride! Roar your lungs out! Que sera indeed, but when life is good, you have to smile!

At this point it seems we are f....d beyond belief ...

Yeah, being off our game and beating the Hawks ... who are we? And what are we? ?
-
Beat me to it OD!
-
I keep forgetting, so it is great to get the reminders from you ...
-
@Redleg What are we again?
-
The front rows are very hit and miss. When the play is near, you can see and hear a lot more, but when it is up the other end, it is like a bunch of flies fighting over a dust speck. Swings and roundabouts I guess ...
-
Nice get, DC. My son and I are in M9 as well (row O). @old dee where are yours?

The moment you know when you’re going to win
Red and Bluebeard replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
There were plenty of signs that it was our night. In no particular order: The Viney tackle on Selwood which lead to Jones kicking the sealer Lewis smothering an Abblett free kick, not once but twice Hannan's run and goal Weidemann's marking, particularly in the first quarter Tmac's early dominance Gawn's tackle and holding the ball free Oscar's defensive falcon Geelong kicking points from point-blank range at least three times Selwood's brain fade free near the interchange when Hawkins was lining up for goal For mine, the last one was the real turning point. The MFCSS in me said that if we couldn't win after that, we never would. The MFC2018 in me said that we have them now! -
All true DC, but given the other vagaries in our game (prior opportunity, what is fair in a marking contest, deliberate out of bounds, etc) it is worth trying. I think paying a free against Greene for unduly rough play would send the message that this is beyond wherever the line is.
